If anyone needs a HC power level you can add/msg me and I'll run ya through. I only play HC now and I can roll through T6 without delay.

Well, I just ranked on the solo monk seasons leaderboard
    [IMG]

I've also given 68 several tries, with various setups, and from what I can see it looks like my paragon is the largest issue. I mean I can do it if I fished enough. I've come close to completing it a few times already. The thing is, I already know with my current gear I have plenty of DPS to do 68 in a sufficient setup. However, elites throw a wrench in things, especially if there's one in every single room I come to (which has happened during every single one of my attempts). So I experimented putting diamonds in my gear and found that I could last through most elemental damage more easily compared to before. However, my damage was slightly lacking (though probably still enough to get through 68). If I had more paragon and stat points, I could easily do 68 and up with diamonds in my armor, because I could compensate for my stat loss with paragon points.

I hate paragon. This infinite scaling crap is just super annoying. Like there should be a cap to paragon. Maybe make up for it somewhere else, like you get levels of "ancient gear find" or something as you level up past the cap. That way everything is still RNG based and you can just get to a certain cap and then every level afterwards just increases your odds with RNG.

This paragon system pretty much forces me onto my SWK monk regularly. My SWK monk can complete 70 and up easily with a 1 dps party, so it rakes in experience like no one's business (especially with a ruby in the helm and a crown in the cube).

The funny thing about paragons is they give people what they kept asking for, allocation of stats, and some people are still complaining.

I can tell you I never asked for it, and I'm not sure who did. Whoever it was, they (nor the developers) thought about the long term ramifications.

I mean let me put this flatly (and this is just one issue with infinite paragon): It is literally impossible to catch up to someone that got a head start on you. This isn't like with gear, which has a soft cap or something. What I'm saying is that if you keep playing and doing the same type of parties (which is unlikely) as someone that started earlier than you, you can never catch up with them. Ever. It doesn't matter how much you play. If they play throughout the whole season, they will always be ahead. The damage multipliers rack up quite high with paragon, too. Someone with trash tier gear but 1500 paragon can easily beat out someone in full ancient gear. The scaling just gets too ridiculous.

Isn't that kind of the point of endless grind ARPGs? The only thing to put in is a time sink. Someone who plays more than you, started earlier than you has had more time to get gear, experience, etc.

That's the point of seasons, to get another chance to do that.

And an uncapped paragon gives non-season players a way to continuously (if slightly) improve. Think this system is fine, if anything paragon should be more robust and interesting.

The problem is that each season lasts several months. Someone that starts a month or two late is very likely literally utterly out of the running for any top spots for the entire season, regardless of skill or time invested. Almost all the top 4 man (or hell solo, since group players then take their solo gear and go mess up the solo boards) teams have well over 1k paragon and started at the same time. At the rate that leveling slows down, it's pretty much impossible to catch up. If they don't stop, you'll never catch up.

I don't think most games have literally infinite stat scaling. There's usually a level cap, and there's an optimal set of gear you can get. Here, you get literally unending stat growth. I don't see how this can be considered a non-issue, and I'm not accepting that it should be allowed simply because "that's how it's always been"... supposing that's even true.

I do agree that higher paragon should be more interesting, but I don't think it should necessarily be the primary determinant of your character's rank... which at this point it pretty much is.

it's not how it's always been

if you start a month or more into a season then you aren't a seasonal competitive player. wait until next season if you want to compete on equal footing.
you gimped yourself because you were stubbornly refusing to play seasonal so why would you come back and start complaining again about seasons and this time whining about how late starters are at a disadvantage for placing on the leaderboards!

I'll admit I was being stubborn but that doesn't have to be the reason a person starts late. The whole point is asking why it works this way, not why it happened to me and whether that makes sense or not. So no, I don't give a crap about why it happened to me specifically this season, and yes I'm complaining because this whole system is stupid. It sucks. Period.

If seasonal players continue to play then why shouldn't they gain improvements to their abilities? Else once they hit whatever cap you seem to want to impose what is the point to continue to play?

Someone who starts late in the season realistically shouldn't expect to be competitive on the leaderboards. If you think that's how it should go then let's just forget the whole loot / skill system and make everyone the same lvl with a standard set of gear, no chance of improvement on either. Might as well make the Grifts exactly the same map with exactly the same mobs in the same places. Then maybe we can achieve your idea of fair and competitive.

If this was the case I know I wouldn't bother to play it anymore, would be too boring to bother.

Paragon helps but starting late doesn't mean you can't get a spot on the top 1k leaderboards. If you're trying to get the top 5 spots yea, you're shit out of luck but those guys play like 13-16 hours a day. You can't compete with the time they've put in, regardless if they started late or not unless you really are willing to put in that time and even then I'd argue you could get one of those top 5 spots since the top rifts are all about fishing the perfect rift. Just look at how Alk got some of the most insane times on the barb leaderboard early on (hint, it wasn't because he had 1k paragon).

Edit: Not saying the 1k paragon DIDN'T help but it wasn't the major reason why he got #1.

I enjoy D3 for the mindless grinding. After work/gym, I can't concentrate.. so grabbing some bourbon or tequila and grinding out a few levels is a good way to cap off the evening.

Getting into the Top 1K is really more of finding the right group to team up with and fishing the right Grift than anything else. Course having the Paragon levels do help... :D

Starting late is one thing, playing time is another major factor.

I sincerely believe that if you cannot play for 12h a day for an entire season, chances of anyone getting onto the boards, and STAYING there becomes slim.

The first couple of weeks of Seasons, gear will have a bigger influence on your progression, but as time passes, gear influence becomes smaller (especially now with the Cube) and Paragon influences becomes greater. Paragon heavily favors those who can spend more time than an average player.

I will say though, my definition of competitiveness is different: top 10, not 1000. I don't think anything less than the top 10 is worth the effort as you will most likely be part of statistics, not as an individual achievement. If I aim for highscores, I always aim for the front page, or else not at all.

I literally just now realized there's a little arrow to select all the gems you want to create instead of creating them 1 by 1.

Unless this was just added? If not, I'm an idiot.

Ah ok, I just started this season a couple weeks back so I don't feel too stupid. I thought for some reason that's been there since launch.

I thought it was that way since season 1 or 2... If I recall correctly it was just this season or last that they made it so you can craft a whole stack at once instead of waiting for each one to finish.

For me honestly I've ranked like top 15-20 before but what really holds me back is I'm not playing much anymore BUT grift keys are what holds me back. I'll farm like 50 in one night, burn through it all the next fishing for a grift that I can rank in but then I'll be too burned out fishing grifts to grind out more keys. Hence, the cycle repeats. :p

Haven't done any serious solo pushing yet, only been farming speed GR70++
Oh I did try a new variation of the static monk solo build that stacks freeze and stun on hit (gloves and belt) just to see how it worked and cleared a 66 with ease. The amount of cc you manage is pretty retarded, the mobs are just sitting there looking at you while you pound them.

How well does the steam controller work? I wouldn't run hardcore with it, but I'm curious as I like to play D3 on my projector.

I tried to do some groups over the weekend and nothing but scrubs online. Its sad when my highest Group level is 64 and I solo 66.

    Here are my observations.

Witch Doctor more like Witch Lag creating person thing.
Seven Sided strike monks are too common and suck 99% of the time.
WW barbs suck don't do damage and die without a heal monk and if we do have a heal monk they still die because they go outside of the range.
What is a crusader or demon hunter.
Heal Monk only useful if they know how to group up and other members have damage.

I'm curious what the Diablo landscape will look like once Fallout 4 releases. Blizzard really needs to change the design of the game to allow variety in builds like D2.

This is exactly what I see in pub games. I bring my Uliana monk for speed 60 and below, most of the time I have to carry the group through dps wise, which is sad. It's astonishing the amount of heal monks that don't have the right skills/gear. Everyone asking why they're dieing in a 64...well look our life per second is only 50K, that's never going to work. I have a decent HoTA, Sunwuko, and Static monk for groups but it's getting harder to find a good group. If anyone wants to add me feel free, flawlez#1220.

I have a heal monk running 914k LPS, as long as others can handle their part I usually can keep everyone alive in 68's or better...

I've kinda just quit at this point. At least for a while anyway. My static monk's going to fall of the leaderboards at some point, probably. It was only in the 500's when I ranked. My NS WD is probably quite safe as he's in the 100's or so.

Just got tired of not being able to do things because of my para, and I didn't feel like grinding it out. Well that, and Disgaea 5 came out and totally replaced my addiction to this lol. I love this series. Maybe if the season's still going when I'm done with Disgaea 5 (whenever that may be). Although since I picked up the Destiny bundle (on sale shrug), I may just try out Destiny with my friends since they're all planning to get one too. I've heard it's kinda similar.

I'm curious as to how long do you expect them to support a game that now has no revenue stream. It's been out for over 18 months with pretty damn good updates: just look at how much RoS alone has changed from it's launch.

Games are way more expensive to develop now, the cost to develop a new enemy is enormous compared to the 2D sprite days of D2. Skill balance and new items is no trivial matter either. Do you expect them to continue pumping out years of content for free?

Oh I hear ya, I've been saying the same thing for quite a while. I am shocked they put this much effort into game redesign for no extra money. However for the game to survive like D2 did, they are going to have to continually evolve the game without breaking it further. Their latest update essentially made it a 2 class game. Also the character they tried to overhaul the most, the WD, is almost unplayable with the computation lag.

I also realize that D2 was in a much different gaming universe. The players today would probably not embrace it like gamers of the past did. If Blizzard doesn't come out with something really invigorating for future seasons, I think the game is toast. Especially if they can't revive the hardcore scene with their intolerance to complaints of lost characters due to server lag or disconnects. People have submitted complaints with video recorded proof of their servers being the culprit and they still did nothing about it.

The money they're investing into D3 now, and since Loot 2.0 and all the seasons etc, isn't about making more money off of D3. It's about making more off of future Blizzard titles. Consumer goodwill goes a long way. I haven't been as into D3 as a lot of people, but the fact that I can log-in every few months to a new season with some new gear and some class changes, quality of life updates etc and play for a few weeks means I'm looking forward to future Blizzard titles. If they do another expansion for D3, I'll almost certainly buy it...I can't imagine it not holding my attention for a few dozen hours at least.

So I don't have a PC anymore, but I just got a nice 4k TV and an Xbox One. Decided to get the ultimate evil edition and give it a go. I never got to play RoS. Been a couple years since I played.

Wow....wow. The game is awesome now. I installed it on my Xbox and played all the way through the game without stopping. Enjoyed every minute of it. Anyone active on Xbox One by chance?

12 to 13 depending on if you use 2h

10,400% increased damage and 52% damage reduction. Not on a single ability like most sets, but on ALL of your attacks.

How much power creep before we start seeing hits in the trillions :p
