Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Google results told me to lower sound channels, which helped a bit. Maybe a dedicated sound card would help.

I'm using a SB XIFI Titanium and framerates are still terrible with the sound channels turned up (and they're still not great in places with it turned down). They need to completely scrap the sound engine for the game. None of their other games which have a similar amount of units at once (Starcraft 2, WoW) have any sound issues.

SC2 doesn't run very well aside from 1v1's either though. It makes sense in that game I guess, but they really need to learn how to code for tons of effects/units better.

Those getting frame rate issues, are you running full screen or borderless window mode?

I noticed way smoother performance when using full screen instead of borderless window. I have no idea why, but it helped.

Hmm good point. I might try that. A bit off-topic, but for my modded Skyrim (200+ mods, only 15gb of mods though) it took ages to load in windowed mode, but loaded almost instantly in fullscreen.

It's important to note that mGPU will not work in any windowed mode (borderless full screen window is still a windowed mode). Full screen is required for Crossfire or SLI to work.

I run a pet WD for the most part in HC and SC and I to experience slow downs here and there during heavy mob fights. Nothing compares though to 3-4 sentries spamming missles on a mob to collapse my FPS. I can be in a 4 pet WD run and will slow down to a point (full screen about 15fps drop). But when a sentry/follower person comes in I go way down in performance. Still playable, but only just. Tweaked shadows, audio, AA etc etc and nothing seemed to help.

Act 3 bridge is still a mess to as always.

The game is ridiculously fun with others. Enjoyed running it with you guys. Sorry I couldn't fork over the RRoG :(

Damn just did a level 23 GR on the PTR on my hardcore witch doctor...holy fuck. The pets die almost instantly to certain enemies(Those guys from Act 5 that spawn the stupid lightning stuff, wtf). At least the pets aren't as stupid anymore, although I did find the Gargantuan to be pretty useless now that they "fixed" the IAS bug. Instead of 130+ million he hits for like 30 million, which is pretty useless.

I'm reserving judgement until 2.1 drops, but from my experience Greater Rifts are basically just HP/DPS number bloat combined with map and enemy set RNG that trivializes the whole competitive aspect of "seasons". Basically, the best runs are going to be by whoever gets a nice density and none of the insanely overtuned A4/A5 mobs.

Are greater rifts randomized the same way normal rifts are?
Because mob density/variety is a disaster in regular rifts right now. Sometimes you can spend 5 minutes running around and only encounter a handful of useless mobs, or nothing at all, or an entire floor with no elites.

I can't believe they don't have some kind of algorithm to balance every floor equally.

They've discussed working on normalizing rift completion so its less RNG. Density should be a lot more consistent and mobs with more hp give more credit than little spiders that are push overs. They've even acknowledged that conduit pylons break everything (although I dont know what they've decided to do with them).

The whole rift runs/leaderboards/seasons stuff requires a more consistent experience, and they recognized that rifts needed an overhaul to make it fair.

Wow, I was literally at like 1% HP today in a T5 rift with spirit vessel already popped. I still have no idea how I lived. I seriously hate the Act 5 mobs, they drain HP so damn fast.

Finally got a Jade Harvester chest piece last night which completes my set. :D Now I just have to learn to use it effectively....

I got my first piece this morning, until now I had no idea what a "Jade WD" was since I'm perfectly comfortable (and safe) running cookie-cutter pet build.
Even if I had the full set I probably wouldn't use it.

Call me lazy.

Related: I have a few belts that slow enemies by 80% when affected by Locust. I assume that's part of the Jade/DoT build.

I would but I'm too lazy to level again and with a 2 year old running around and a 1 month old now there are too many distractions that I fear would cause an unfortunate accident. Besides I don't play very often because of the above mentioned reasons as well as working on my masters.

Might start one just for old times sake since that was how I played d2 for years. Miss that rush at times.

Funny you say that. I just built my first HC character (now T2 capable) and I've almost lost it a few times due to my 8 month old either falling/crying/begging/laughing. Spirit vessel and immediate walk saved me enough to bail out and TP to town. It's nice playing with that pressure though. In SC I just jump right in the middle of the mob and spam away, if I die, who cares, I lose a little gold in repairs.

Play a class with a life-saving passive, I know WD has one. Maybe only ranged classes do or maybe they all do.
The game is less bursty now than it was before, and even if you do die the passive will save you. In the ~50 hours on my new toon I've never gone below 50% HP.

The only thing I fear is disconnecting in the middle of a big fight. If you play co-op then you worry less about that.

Crusaders have it pretty easy in hardcore as well due to their life saving passive.

Crusader damage unless its been updated recently has been pretty meh for a while

Did they nerf them?

With harrington I'm still dishing out about 50-60 million dmg crits for heaven's fury per, or if combined that would be about 180mill. And about 30 million+ regular crits. Seems pretty good still especially if you solo or have a strong group for T6.

Well the issue people have complained about is that crusader damage aside from the holy shotgun build is very cooldown dependent. With Long cooldowns

Once you get the shotgun build you steamroll through literally everything. You barely even take any damage anymore. If you optimize correctly you can do 60 million + per fury, so 180 million on bigger targets. Crusaders are not a hard class to play, only to gear if you are unlucky. A lot of lower level players do have trouble getting a good crusader together though.

Also, pets die way too fast in T5 or above. Literally all my pets are dead within a few seconds of those fucking mallet lords.

Might try a sader on HC. Could devote a few hours a week to HC. Be my change of pace guy. I loved HC back in the day but I was younger then, more patient now but a lot less time on my hands. Plus last night I had a freak disconnect which would probably cause me heart palpations if I was playing HC.

So, haven't played D3 since well before Loot 2.0. Should I buy the expansion, and if so, is the crusader worth playing?

I'm also interested in hearing how the expansion affected the game. I passed on buying it due to all of the negative comments I heard from friends. Hopefully the expansion has addressed some of the issues I heard back then.

The expansion was one of the only reasons I have played the game. Everyone I know thought the expansion was great.

Now's the best time to get the expansion anyway. There is a major content patch coming out next week.

You could also try a witch doctor. Probably quickest to get decent gear and into Torment 1,2 or 3. I'm already doing solo T5 without too many issues, group play being a bit more difficult. (Pet doctors aren't that great versus mobs). Right now I'm just trying to get as much Gold/Paragon/Mats as possible to setup a good base in hardcore. Might try another class next patch.

Oh and for Bounties, the caches rolls are determined by the character who opens them. So you could technically farm 30+ caches on your fastest character and then just open them on the one you want the items for.

So they changed the way cache's work?

Didn't they always work like that? I got about 5 on my witch doctor, opened them with my demon hunter and they were all dexterity rolls or class specific items like quivers. They were level 70 though (DH is still level 38). So the level is based on which character got them, but the rolls aren't.

Running t6 rifts for any of you people that are just now getting back into the game. harkamsu#1769

EDIT: Also, there's a buff going on right now where you get +50% bonus gold find, which is multiplicative, not additive.

I think it's all random, I use a DH almost exclusively and and have gotten wizard and wd items from the cache.

Every item out of 5 or 6 caches was for a demon hunter. I've never gotten anything but witch doctor gear when I opened them on my wd.
