Diablo 3 - Beta thread

Apparently, the beta has been partially cracked and slowly getting cracked farther. http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=810208

So far, you can crack your way into the character creation and the game world, but there will be no NPCs or items. That didn't take long.

and thats as far as they gonna go as everything that happens is server so kinda pointless going in a emtpy world even if its fun to see graphics a bit.

Since I have a huge D3 boner right now, I was cruising the official page and they put up a new post.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/3469605#blog

At the end it says:

And for those of you anxiously awaiting a beta invite, explore the new website content carefully, as you may even find a sneak peek of some non-beta content.

I hope this is a sign of the rest of the beta starting soon.

All server functions can be emulated, it probably won't function as well as blizzard's version of the game. But from my understanding WoW underground servers have been running for years now.

This really isn't proper decorum for this forum, we shouldn't talk about this any more, most likely the thread will be locked.

This response in that thread made me 'lol'.

"Hacking process is also being monitored by Blizzard to see just how robust their system is. This is just all part of the beta."

That's some strong kool-aid.

Yeah, well, there goes the argument for having always on DRM.

So what's the problem with having a single player offline mode again?

I mean the always-on DRM didn't stop hacking

Blizzard's whole impetus for having always on DRM was to stop the hackers and the dupers.

They have failed in that effort.

If anything, it proves that it can't be hacked. It's just like WoW--they will have to make emulated servers to hack the game any further.

Apparently they were just trying to make a sandbox where you could run around with a character.

If D3 has hacked/duped items ill agree with you about not having SP/LAN. If those items dont exist, I say good riddence to those modes. The items caused more problems then anything.

I'm sure there won't be any hacked or duped items at all in Torchlight 2. Now go find that thread and post about it.

Torchlight 2 has LAN play, offline single player mode

why would I care about hacking/duping in that game?

it wouldn't get in the way of my single player experience.

Blizzard could have a single player and LAN without impacting battle.net.

Diablo 2 and WC3 issues came from the multiplayer being hosted by players, that is to say, not being hosted by blizzard's servers.

The only benefit to /hackers and cheaters/ from single player and LAN is having a much greater knowledge of what exactly the server is doing, making private servers much easier to create. Keep in mind World of Warcraft has no LAN or single player, yet there are highly customized private servers.

It could be argued having this information would provide a easier path to manipulating battle.net if someone gained access to blizzard's servers.

I got so giddy over Diablo 3 that I reinstalled Diablo 2...wow I'm sad.

I'm the exact same way. Tried to get a friend of mine to play it online last night but he couldn't handle the old graphics. The gameplay is still fun enough for me.

I was looking at some of the live streams of the beta last night and for some reason the game looked dated. Maybe it was the stream quality but it looked like a game from 90's sometimes. Maybe its the Diablo fonts or interface, I just can't put my finger on it. Anybody feel the same way?

Considering D2 is from 2000 and 2001 and it looks like shit by comparison now... no.

Yes and I'm sure you'll enjoy playing single player Diablo clone immensely.

If there is one Blizzard game that wouldn't need a single play component or LAN play you think it would be Diablo. Seriously I have never met a person that didn't play D2 online over battle.net. Single player and LAN play were full of dupers.

I've met a lot of people who didn't play on bnet sometimes including myself.

Force has a new video up about the talent calculator and updated website. Then at the end he back tracks a bit on his "closed public beta will begin this week," statement.

I just listened to it, but he seemed to say the same thing that it would be "expected this week," but then say "it could always be moved back." I think this is all BS, but on incgamers, they say their source said the same thing about it dropping this week.

I'm really, really burned out on what's out there right now, particularly FPSs. BC2 can hold my interest for a bit but...D3 would be just what the doctor ordered, damnit bring it on!

Why, as said, perhaps they are leaving it open, i would, leave it open to see "how" people manage to get in and around your code, then patch said code, rinse repeat.

it would be dam smart of them to do that, let the hackers find their weakness for them and then fix them.

Umm, wouldn't that be World of Warcraft?

I played it in 2000 or 2001 when my PC was basically not up to the task, but I grinded it out. Multiplayer was not feasible.

They've delayed it 3+ years, so most people will exceed the specs and avoid that issue, but allowing for single-player characters with hard drive saves and no AH access, or other offline... hurts how? Like Starcraft 2. I mean besides getting the amended black market version.

It's not like ISPs never cause frustration or gouge.

Take the online only bitching to the other thread dedicated to it.

This thread is to discuss the beta. Speaking of which, it was just patched. Public beta getting closer?

I am expecting one more patch before beta. This patch didnt actually fix any bugs and there is a problem with public games now where you have a really hard time joining a game thats not completed already. That said I started a new public game, did almost a full run with another person, then we got close to the end and 2 max level people farming boss got in. Was alot of fun with the increased mob health and quantity count.

Median.

So from my understanding, you can switch skills AND runes at any time during the game.

That doesn't seem right to me. That pretty much eliminates "builds" from the game because everyone can be any build at any time. There isn't any customization at all in the game if this is the case.

Do I have this correct?

No, you can switch skills but you can't switch out runes. If you remove a skill, the rune is gone forever.

Yes, all you have to do is get one hero to 60 and then it can be whatever build is FOTM at the time. It will just cost gold or w/e to switch builds.

It could be something like a WOW mechanic, where it couldn't be done in combat, and takes a bit of time to switch skills.

And runes are going to be super rare/super expensive?

God I hope so. If not, this game is going to be a total let down.

Noone actually knows. At gamescom the way runes where found, added, and removed was still up in the air. we don't know if rune placement has a cast time, if you can remove runes, and so on. The only thing we know is runes are drops and there are rune levels. But If it goes down the way you say, does it even matter? How is picking what you want not customization. The only limits i see them ever putting in is like I said runes are destroyed on removal, can only change skills in town, or like the town portal there is a long cast time to make changes. I should never have to reroll a character because I made a mistake picking things.
