Developer: Consoles 'Couldn't Possibly Handle' Star Citizen

Kickstarter should require the devs to set deadlines and automatically refund a portion or all of your money if they fail to meet those deadlines.
That would be smart, but kickstarter just wants its take, and if the contributers get scammed of their money, kickstarter doesn't care. If anything, it just means more money for them.

Save it for the real Star Citizen kickstarter scam thread. ;)

Although I agree that the less experienced developers need more accountability, there is a danger with fixed deadlines ... one of the big complaints people have with the publisher funded titles is how buggy they often are or these massive day 1 patches ... however, both of those things are a direct function of publishers enforcing deadlines (a title must launch by a certain day)

If a developer is actually working on a project and providing updates then I would rather a project launch a little later (and have better quality or features) than to force it out the door according to an arbitrary deadline just to avoid a slip ... but I have been playing computer games since '81 so I have seen game slips in the year or more range (and seen launches of games with catastrophic bugs that destroyed systems) ... I am more than willing to give a developer a few month extra time for a better product

Although the smaller developers may sit around eating HoHos and drinking beer until they go bust, the bigger developers seem to be treating their projects just like a professional should ... they are building project plans and teams ... they do preproduction ... and they are adjusting to this new model of communicating with customers during development (something publishers tend to control or discourage to protect their IP and marketing) ... overall I think it is too early to say the entire model is solely for scam artists

Anyone who thinks a very good, complex game can be made in a couple of years, is misguided/misinformed.

The majority of funding for Star Citizen is direct from players to Cloud Imperium Games through the Cloud Imperium website. They only added Kickstarter support because a lot of people asked to be able to fund it through Kickstarter instead of directly through CIG. Kickstarter can't "require" CIG to do anything because this project did not originate on Kickstarter.

Star Citizen would have to be so dumbed down to run on even the PS4 which is currently the graphical champ of the "next" gen consoles. On the Xbox One it would have to be a totally different game with far less ambitious goals frankly to work.

This game is raising the bar for fidelity and its about fucking time too. I'm tired of buying better video cards only to run lesser looking games at the speeds I've been use to on my PC for decades. I want games that demand better hardware not because they are poorly coded ports that are just turn style "make a buck" dredge. Ubisoft is the greatest offender of making crappy console ports that require massively more powerful PC's for no reason other than they can't be bothered to even try to make the game A) Stable B) Run at its maximum potential.

I really hope that Star Citizen never sees the light of day on consoles. I love my consoles , ALL OF THEM but I also want my PC to shine all on its own. Right now the PC has become a factory for indie developers. Indie developers don't have the resources to equal the kind of development needed for a truly ground breaking (graphically speaking) game. Star Citizen is the rare exception where an Indie developer is actually trying to set the bar that the big developers have seemingly ignored.

Fuck shitty console ports. Even now that the consoles are effectively running mobile APU's and are x86 we are still getting lesser ports for no reason other than a quick buck to save (Watch Dogs being a huge example of this).

When the hell is Star Citizen actually supposed to be finished?
It's already finished, you pay them money they release new artwork, new concept ships and stuff, the game is see how much money people will give them before they actually get upset about how little development there is.
