Deus Ex : Mankind Divided

I never could make it more than a couple hours into the first game. I keep trying it because everybody tells me it's the best game ever but can't get into it. Maybe I'm the problem. I have a pathetic attention span and need games that are a little quicker to figure out and get into the most and potatoes. Probably why I can't handle most RPG's.

I don't know. It was pretty much the same for me. I REALLY wanted to like it. I tried to get into it. I LOVE cyberpunk settings too. However, when this came out I was heavily engrossed in System Shock 2 among other things, and this paled in comparison. To me, the levels always felt sparse and devoid of the sort of life I would expect in the big city environments it takes place in. My brother liked it a lot though, so I watched him play a lot of the game. I even thought it was pretty cool, but still couldn't get into it myself. Another game that I should have liked was Omikron, but the control scheme made me want to vomit. :D

I tried again a couple of years ago, and made it further, but eventually lost interest again. In contrast, I still replay both System Shock games to this day, and find their CP elements to be a lot more interesting.

I did get completely into DX: HR though. As mentioned by others, even with its faults I found it to be an extremely good game.

I'm in the same boat on the original. Basically the issue is that for new players it's just too dated. People really familiar with the game's systems and levels probably really enjoy a quick nostalgia run through, but for modern players it's just too qwerky.

The original still has old school FPS cliches like 100% hidden wall secrets, meaning you just run around everywhere touching every wall and attempt to "activate" hidden secrets. As much as the game is undoubtedly a classic, only the most patient new players will be able to deal with its really old mechanics (other than people who've played/beaten it since it was first released).

I'm starting to wonder the same stuff about my favorite RPG games of all time: Fallout 1/2. Incredible, but I fear that new players may not be able to deal with its stiff mechanics... then I played Wasteland 2 and realized that all is still right with the world at least on that one. [For clarity, I mean that FO is still more than playable to new players that are a fan of that specific RPG/combat strategy game type].

IGN said:
Perhaps one of the biggest revelations from the Q&A was the fact that players can "ghost" - make it through a level without being seen - throughout entire levels, including those with bosses.

"As always and even on boss side finally!" Dugas said in response to the question. Additionally, he confirmed conversations in boss battles would make a return in the upcoming installment, similar to the ones found in Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Talking about Mankind Divided's difficulty, Dugas explained there would be an option best suited for the hardcore stealth enthusiast.

"We'll have the 'Give me Deus Ex' [mode] again," he said in response to the question of whether or not Mankind Divided would have an option similar to that of BioShock Infinite's 1999 mode. "Not exactly like the 1999 mode but you should expect a real challenge."

As for a new game plus mode? "I would love it, we'll see," Dugas said.

Sounds like they're listening to the players. Good sign.

I don't see the point in a NG+ mode for this kinda game at all, but that's just me I guess.

I think more varied and useful Augs would be my #1 request so that as you play the game again you can TRULY try a different specialization. Played through it 3 times, but for the most part i was just using different weapons and my spec stayed the same.

I dont know, I kinda think it would be a good thing. I admit I like that option on a lot of games like Dead Space 3 where you can start the game with all the cool bad ass guns and stuff you built in the first play through. Its kinda fun just blowing shit away easily for a change. You can always go back and play it from scratch if youre wanting a more purist gaming experience.

Most definitely, more options never hurts. If they had it in HR I might have actually tried out some of the other augs which never made the cut lol

One thing I'll never understood why devs didn't go the route of choice/consequence on the augs like in original Deus Ex, you can only have one aug that fits for example legs, lets say B out of A, B, C. And to be honest when you did find Augmentation canister it felt pretty damn satisfying compared to HR's lame Praxis Kit.....

Oh MAN I'm get'n all fired up about this. I really don't know about playing as the same protagonist, though. I like the idea of a new story, kind-of like final fantasy sequels: different universe entirely. Gives you more freedom.

I think it had to do with the story they chose, and the timeframe. Even though everything looks more futuristic than DX, that's just the graphics IMO. It's supposed to take place prior to DX, which means a time when augs are not as common and the tech less evolved. So it makes sense to me that they could only build one choice for an aug into AJ to turn on. Plus they had the bit in there about only being able to turn them on slowly due to the possible rejection you may go through.

I forget the lore of augs in DX... did the canister actually hold the augmentation? Or was it similar to a praxis kit which enabled or reconfigured part of you which is waiting to become an aug?

This thread is relevant to my interests. LOVE me some Deus Ex. Heck, I even liked IW even though it's not the masterpiece that the first one was.

I like IW for what it was. Sure, it had some issues but it had some things going for it, too.

Ive never even played IW. I think my next adventure will be to go back and replay dx, then play iw... Followed by hr, and then the next should be out!

Well, I'm one of those old school gamers that played Deus Ex when it first came out. Back then there really wasn't any RPG-FPS mixes apart from System Shock 2. This game broke open that genre and it was everything I had been craving in a game at that time. When they announced Invisible War I was stoked. The trailer was awesome, the early screen shots and interviews were exciting... and then it kind of went quiet. Some new screen shots eventually leaked out and they looked liked smeared cow manure compared to what had been shown earlier. Didn't take long and we found out the game had been severely condensed and spliced up to fit on the original Xbox. The final product was a let down for fans of the original and almost single-handedly started the PC vs Console wars. This is why a lot of people didn't initially enjoy it for what it was. It is a decent game, but still my least favorite of the series thus far. Human Revolution, as so many have already pointed out, has its flaws... but overall greatly exceeded my expectations. One of the few games I would have welcomed an extended term of DLC expansions (if on par with Missing Link). Mankind Divided shot to the top of my most anticipated list the second I saw that trailer. I think I am more excited for it than I am for Witcher 3. It's all relative of course, and premature to be honest, but here's hoping it lives up to the hype.

Is that the VA for Jensen?

Yes.

Deus Ex related, but slightly off topic: has anybody read Icarus Effect (the Deus Ex) novel? Thoughts?

Damn... imagine if both this and Fallout 4 come out in time for the holidays this year?

Talk about overload. :D

Overloaded in the best way possible. :D What responsibilities?!?! (Throw in Doom 4 and I cease to exist for all intents and purposes for a few weeks.)

Haha, we'd all become hermits for about a month. I know what I'd be doing with my vacation time... :D

someone should grow a beard like that... i cant so im out..

I almost can. However, my handlebars don't quite connect all the way, and that little soul-patch midsection won't go all the way down. :D

Might be able to smack a hexagon shape into my forehead though if that helps. :p

Affirmative.

Nobody else but him has any business scoring it.

Sweet.

That dude disappeared off the face of the earth for over a year until the first news of this game came out. He hadn't updated his site, social media...nothing.

I'm a big fan of his work.
