Destiny 2

Granted, I'm done with the quest, but the biggest issue I've run into is people quitting games when they die a couple of times. When I was trying to get the 25 medals portion of the quest, I had a bunch of games where my team ended up being only 3 people. There's no penalty for quitting quick play, so I get why people do it, but it sucks for others that stick it out while trying to get their quest kills.

Yeah, it sucks. I left one only because my whole team left before me and I wasn't about to be farmed and lose progress.

Honestly, you simply have to change your strategy for multiplayer. I'm from the UT / Q3 gameplay era. I tend to have a very aggressive play style which works well in some games or some modes, but works against me in Destiny 2 outside of Iron Banner. (More on that later.) You need to get a pulse rifle like Bygones, Vigilance Wing, Go Figure, or some other pulse rifle and stick with your team staying near the back of the pack. Your only objective is to tag all the targets that your team mates are shooting. Do not pursue other players just to get a kill. Do not run off by yourself. If you end up by yourself, try your best to make it to your team mates and gain strength in numbers. Additionally, I recommend something like an Ikelos or similar shotgun for up close work on some maps. There are a couple of maps that favor sniper rifles. If you end up on one of those, bail. Don't even entertain that shit. Just get out. Avoid modes like Mayhem where its a battle of supers and you'll end up dying a lot. I stick with standard quick play as competitive and rumble modes will generally result in a worse K/D ratio.

I found all this shit out the hard way, and it cost me a fair amount of progress. If you ever play crucible and have a positive K/D ratio, you can do this. If a match starts to look one sided and not in your favor, get out of the match immediately. If you join a match and your back filling a loser, bail. A friend of mine got past this point of the quest line last night and he's not any better than me. He just switched up tactics. I wish Iron Banner were here, as I'm far better at that mode for reasons that I cannot understand. In that mode, I run a Tiger Spite Auto-Rifle and clean house coming in first, second or third overall in most matches. I run around like I'm playing UT and just kill anything that moves that comes from the other team. It works for me. The tactics that I use there don't seem to translate to the other game modes and tactics I use in other game modes do not work for me in Iron Banner.

You might also want to avoid playing during the day time. I can only fire up a match on my lunch hour, but those times are much worse than playing late at night or in the early evening. I think your jobless and most dedicated players are playing in the afternoon, so you might have better success at hours where you will statistically see a more diverse group as far as skill levels and weapons loadouts go.

Iron Banner has level advantage turned on, so it's not surprising to do better there. You literally do more damage and take less damage from people with lower level gear.

Most people in the Iron Banner are 650's. Even when they aren't, I did well at 600. I have also been killed by plenty of people at 634 etc. So while there is an advantage, it isn't as large as it would be in PvE combat.

It's definitely not a massive advantage, but it's fairly noticeable once you get to about 20 or so levels difference. We're still only talking about stuff like maybe taking one extra bullet to kill or be killed, but in a game where TTK for the best guns is less than a second, one bullet can be all the difference.

I will say, though, the Iron Banner that happened right after they stated giving the base game away for free was hilarious. So many people running around at ~100ish. I felt like the hulk against those poor souls lol. I could literally one-shot a lot of them with a hand cannon, and it would take them almost an entire magazine to kill me.

Good tips Dan. I have been using Graviton Lance and trying to do most of that.

I'm glad I'm at least in the low 70 percentile but I just couldn't get anything done today to save my life. Probably just bad luck but I am going to use your post as any even more specific guideline to finish this thing off hopefully before too long.

I saw that it recommended a light level of 600 or something like that. I wouldn't even attempt it until I crossed that threshold.

It just happened. I followed this advice to the letter and it lined up just right and I got that done. Shy of Iron Banner, Mayhem, etc. I'm probably going to play more like this in general from now on. Not only did my team win big but I had one of my best all time personal performances. I was third on the team behind these two hot shit clan guys. Thank you very much for this!

I stayed glued to the majority of team mates at all times and brought up the rear. Graviton Lance worked very well in this situation.

Once again, to you or anyone else here that's interested: I'm ValguardTVE#1762 on Battle.net. Please add me. :)

I knew it! Shit man just through this thread I was seeing your highs and lows of emotion and knew if you stuck with it, you'd get that shit done. Yeah, there is another crucible step but nothing that has any backsliding. Just put in the time and you'll be rewarded.

Some news in the TWAB this week.

https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/47602

  • We’re returning to the Destiny 2 launch system for gaining clan experience. Go play activities in the game and you will earn clan XP and level up your clan.
    • As a result, daily clan bounties are no longer needed, and have been removed from the game.
  • Iron Banner bounties from Season of the Forge will expire and be removed from player inventory.
  • We also wanted to briefly talk about the tier 5 perk for Season 6. The perk reads, “Crucible and Strike catalysts have an increased drop rate when playing with clanmates.” For those of you who haven’t found all the available catalysts, you’ll have a better chance to find the ones you’re missing. If you already have them all (lucky you), we plan to release a few more from our Year 1 reserve during Season of the Drifter for you to chase.

The other step actually rewards the same kind of play, too, since one of the medals is blood for blood (kill an enemy right after they kill one of your team).

Second step isn't bad at all. You're almost guaranteed to get a couple of the medals per game without even trying.

If you're into the story and lore of Destiny, you probably already know MyNameIsByf. He just uploaded a 90 minute masterpiece regarding the backstory of The Last Word and Thorn. Outstanding artwork, voice acting and storytelling. MOTW stuff for sure.

(sighs) Getting Crucible medals step done... It's better than that first concept but still.... (sighs) Sticking to Dan D's tactics.

Just started the last word quests yesterday, so far im averaging 20% per crucible match for the first pvp step. Got %33 in the first match and like 4% in my next one, finished at 59% after 3 matches though so im making progress lol.

Anyone have an suggestions on how to raise my light level beyond 266 on Vanilla Destiny 2? Im pretty much stuck where i am. I've been grinding the factions on each planet but damn it take a long time to get the rep.

Anything that says "powerful gear" not "legendary gear." Daily and weekly challenges.

This next Crucible step is do-able but is going to take time. Got 4 medals in the first go, 2 in the second (even though I felt like this was "better") and then this third one I alt F4'd out of because suddenly (this is how this thing goes) it was the same map but the teams got changed or something and it turned into a slaughter.

Any other tips or heads up for the rest of that Drifter criteria or pretty straightforward? I just want to be efficient since I'm going to lose a bit of time in Crucible.

I saw the one weekly strike challenge, but the recommended light level was 280. I guess i could try but i don't want to be the dude that drags the fireteam down because i'm not geared for it.

Yeah, equip bottom tree Golden Gun w/ Nighthawk. Go to the Cargo Bay 3 Lost Sector in The Rig section of Titan. Walk in, Golden Gun the Ogre boss for an Etched Crystal (you need 15) and 50 Hive Larve by getting precision kills on the mobs in there. Once everything is dead, run back up then back down and repeat until done.

While doing that... Keep an eye on your map in between runs for the Witches Ritual Public Event right there on Titan (right in front of the spawn in point on The Rig) and Mars (Northwest corner of Glacial Drift). You need to complete 3 on Heroic. Doesn't matter which one but there are only 2.

After that, its the mission to get the gun itself. I went into it blind and I apparently didn't understand the last mechanic for far too long. Ended up looking at one of the hundreds of guides which at that point, I felt kinda lame but I got it done. My reflexes aren't the greatest so i died a few times. Apparently I'm not a legendary gunslinger, who would have thought.

You won't. Stick together, pick your favorite weapons, and play smart.

Criccio: 11/25 in Crucible. It's going to take a while but I'll get it done eventually. I almost wish I could pay a buck to bypass this. ;) Thanks for tips.

When you open you map showing all the planets, do you see gold stars next to certain ones? You want to make those disappear to level up. If its an activity like Crucible or Vanguard, you might need to click into it then hover over the various options to see the what you need to do.

For instance, Crucible will have a Weekly Challenge (represented by the gold stars) to complete 5 Crucible matches. It may also have a daily to do one, but those rotate to different activities. Just get all those Gold stars complete each week and you'll be leveling fast.

Cool I will do that, I did get sidetracked this week with doing some of the exotic quest lines. I suck at crucibles lol. Then again I'm only doing things solo. No guild and my friends don't get on very often.

Can't recommend https://www.the100.io enough. You select various things like age bracket, who you like to play with, hours/days you're usually available to play, if you are super sweaty hardcore or just casual, PvE, PvP, etc.. It'll match you with a group on their site that matches your interests and gives you an option to join their Clan in game.

Just a thought if you wanna get back into playing with a group. TBH this game shines when playing in a fireteam and have communication. Not to mention extra rewards to help rank you up when in a Clan.

Last night was a shit show in Crucible. I ended up dropping down to 24% and finishing the night off at 30% in four matches. I bailed on three out of four when they started going sideways.

Wait what? I thought you were done with that step and that's why you gave me those tips. How am I ahead of you?

Your tips + blind luck and attrition. Roll of the dice. That's how I got it, ironically...last night per your tip about play times.

You aren't going to like the next Crucible step much more although it's "better."

Hey, I found a way to progress in Crucible. I never said I was done with that step. One thing that you have to consider is that your progress in that quest will also largely be due to luck of the draw. If you end up facing a premade team of PvP try hards with tons of exotics, the best equipment, armor bonuses, and tons of playtime, you will get farmed and lose progress. I've not had much luck. With a good team, I'd be able to make a crap ton of progress on that quest. I usually get a few kills initially and then the other team's OP supers, unlimited shotguns and cheesy exotics come out and then my team gets slaughtered. With my luck, I think I'll have to go up about 4% every match and punch the eject button to get through this shit.

Frankly, I didn't play that much last night because my experiences in Crucible have been so abysmal since the Last Word quest was made available to us.

Great tips. Got everything done except the rest of Crucible. 11/25 medals so far on that. I didn't bother with Mars. Too much EP interference and delay. Staying on Titan for the rest of that was the way to go.

Montages are kinda played out and rarely give an accurate approximation of a players skill but fucking hell, this was pretty cool to watch. Seizure warning, maybe. The editing, while a little spastic, fit with the song and feel of what was happening.

Found this from the TWAB yesterday, it was the MOTW.

That song is awful.

Not something i'd listen to either but it worked, imo.

17/25 medals... can't wait to be done with this Crucible BS.

Come to think of it, if you've been picking up Crucible bounties every day before doing this and not turning them in, you'd have all 20 for Ikora + enough for next week saved up. :-P

True.

Oh well... That's what the Black Armory is for. ;)

20/25. Done blowing my gaming time on this nonsense for the day. I don't want to see the Crucible again for a long time after this.

Bottom tree arc titan is STUPID now with the buffs. I just stayed IN super for 3 waves of Teir 3 blind well. Would have had the 4th wave too but someone shot the group of ads I was running towards.

I got the idea from Esoterickk staying in super for the ad rooms in Whisper. No guns. Crazy.

Given Spectral Blades and Blade Barrage have been stupid OP for awhile, its nice to see but again, it just goes to show that Bungie seemingly has no idea how to balance a game. Hence the whole state of PvP being the shit show it is.

I think that right there is what makes Destiny fun. Abilities and weapons change over time to make things that aren't being used regularly fun again and toning down others that are getting so much attention that you're at a disadvantage when not using them. This happens constantly throughout the life of Destiny and IMO part of what keeps it fresh and exciting. If Destiny was primarily a PvP game, this wouldn't make any sense at all but its not, that much is clear. I play this game for the PvE experiences and I would gather most others people do as well.

Being able to take those all powerful abilities into a side activity (the Crucible) and go nuts is a ton of fun, but again, its a side activity and not taken seriously.

I don't know if the game as a whole would be as fun to play if every super and weapon totally and completely balance all the time and never changed.

The evolution of how things change over time is one of the things I love about Destiny.

Got a kindled orchid with outlaw and rampage today, added obsidian radiance to it and masterworked it. My fav hand cannon (thus far, i dont have ace or the new one)
