Dell U2713 coming soon

Yeah, I have the 24 inch E-IPS panel and an older Dell IPS 20 inch panel and I really can't tell the difference at all.

So any update on when this bad boy is popping out, becuase I'd rather get this than have to deal with the hassle of ordering a Korean monitor and making sure the power brick and such are OK.

Any word on release date? Also, will there be 1080 or 1200 23-24 inch version?

If this thing is going to cost $500, it's the same price as a u2410 today. get the new monitor instead!

If it's that cheap they cut corners. I'm guessing it IS an e-IPS panel. There is no way they can cut the price that much in a couple years while keeping the same quality of electronics. If it lists for $500 that means it will go on sale for $399 or lower. I'm glad they ditched the harsh AG for glossy though. In a light controlled environment glossy is much better. Oh and I still won't touch an LED backlit monitor.. CCFL only until they fix the color issues..

There is no such thing. If you were to say "it is e-IPS because it uses 6bit + a-frc" then you would be wrong, because the panel they are using is 8-bit native. If you were to say "it is e-IPS because it uses a standard gamut backlight" then you would be technically correct, but there is no meaning: Some NEC graphics monitors are "e-IPS" today (2490WU2, PA231w, and P241w). e-IPS panels are found in OSD-less junkers all the way to ones with 14-bit programmable LUTs.

Well, the U2711 panel is manufactured in Korea while the glossy variant is manufactured in China. By comparison it is definitely a cost-cut part, but there is nothing to speak of in terms of whether it fits a supposition of e-IPS. It would be better to look at its electrode structure (horizontal vs a new S-IPS variant) to find its heredity.

Any of you got any new news about when this bad boy going to pop up online for us?

My guess would be Q4 but that is just a guess. We always seem to see monitors like this pop up in official announcements and such months before any actual release.

399$ or lower. 2560x1440 for the people!

Bye Bye 1920x1200 and 16:10!!!!!

The video cards to drive these displays are still needed and if you plan on playing anything recent that is a 7970 or GTX 680. Honestly owning a 1440p display I can say much of this extra resolution is wasted at this screen size anyways. Computer monitors need to move past 30" for these high resolutions to be truly useful.

I respectfully disagree. Videocards from two generations ago should be able to push these things. Granted that they are mid to high range VC's.

Perhaps by turning down the settings but at max eye candy no. Games are getting more demanding and this monitor isn't even out yet so I stick by my original statement.

Not everyone games on their pc's though. I definetly use the resolution for photoshop and music production without wasting space.

If it doesn't look like an Ultrasharp and doesn't have specifications like an Ultrasharp then it's not an Ultrasharp.

No Display Port, Glossy screen, Not Ultrasharp design.

There is no such thing as a Dell "UltraSharp," because they all use excessively grainy matte coatings, they are the furtherst thing from being "UltraSharp." :D

anyone ever seen a screw on stand for Ultrasharp, nope not me...

Also those photo's are of a 1080P screen not a 1440P screen, connectivity tells you that fact.

If only the guy taking the photo's had a high resolution image of the text we can tell the model name.

my guess is it's a consumer series monitor.

So you're basically saying that there is no 1440P 27inch coming out from Dell under $500 anytime soon?

He is 100% speculating. Dell releases a new model every 2 years...and this Fall marks the 2 year anniversary of the U2711

Yes, On my Dell 3007wfp when I had it, on my Dell 3007wfp-HC's, and on my dell 3008wfp. I assume they are on the u3011 and possible the u2711, but maybe not because it is lighter, but I bet it came with screws in the VESA mount for when you want to mount it on another stand.

ok, maybe on theolder 30" but even the U3011 has snap ins with a screw.

scroll down to U2711 Backview, it's a snap in.

Nope, there are screws, it just has prongs, just like my 3008wfp, but there are screws that hold it in place.

I would love to work on a U27xx. We returned the U2711 because the dot pitch is too low for the AG they use (I hate this H3). It kills the eyes when working long hours on text (coding).

Let's hope they corrected/improved that with the panel LG will be producing in Q2 this year(LM270WQ3).

Other possibility (even better for coding), would be a new U30xx using the future panel LM300WQ6 (dot pitch more confortable). Even if the AG coating is still this f** H3... :)

It said e-ips.. and no DP. That would kill it even at 500 price point imho. The cost difference between 6bit e-ips and 8bit s-ips is quite abit. Just compare the dell 2412 e-ips to the 2410 s-ips. Also got to at least have DP for eyefinity.

What about the Korean monitors (Catleap, Shimian, etc.)? They use the same panel, but do not have the AG coating.

i still can't believe people are going on about e-ips vs s-ips after all of this time

E-IPS is fine, no DP is... a very poor choice. No interest with glossy. I'm using matte and semi-glossy monitors (CRT) here, and the AG coating on say the U2412M is just fine even with varying lighting conditions.

I'll wait for a better monitor to pop up :)

I don't know if that's similar to the coating on the U2711 but I can say that the coating on mine ruins the fine detail in pictures and adds a "sparkle" effect. It's especially annoying to see a clear blue sky on one screen like my iPhone and to see a sparkly mess on the monitor I paid $800 for. It's pretty sad that a cell phone has a better screen than a lot of monitors out there.. it also beats out the U2711 with shadow detail in photos. Color is more accurate on the U2711 but that is about it.

Any more news on when this thing is coming out? My old 2405 is about to die, and I am trying to decide whether to wait for this 2713 or go with one of the Korean models.

The photo is of a screen without a stand. Nowhere is it identifyable as a member of the Dell UltraSharp series. It could easily be a Dell knock-off - such things are not uncommon in those parts of the world. Ignoring this, the fact that these photos have surfaced and deciding that a release is 'weeks not months' away is a touch optimistic to say the least. Dell always announce important releases some time before or at least circulate information in the press that is trustworthy and official enough to be reported by sites like TFT Central, Flatpanels and PC Monitors. I think realistically 'months' away is probably a more likely outcome, if this product does ever come into fruition.

ya i'm going to agree and say that given that is all we've seen of it we're definitely in the 'months away' category.

even thought the sales of the Korean monitors definately got dell hurting in the segment of personnel computing monitors , i doubt very much they use the same lcd again with a glossy version of the screen this time , basically a knock of of the Korean monitors .. we all need to sit and wait and see how the new Samsung take off to see how all goes . if it doesn't compete i don't see dell working itself in the glossy monitor segment , becuase they make a ton of business money already on they're monitors as is

Without saying what I think this monitor is or isn't, I think that a difference could be in the target audience. The new samsung 27 incher with the glass panel is built and priced at a fairly high end segment and they are definitely marketing it towards professional use. At $1200 I really don't think they are trying to compete at all with the catleaps of the world.

If you look at the 2412 vs the 2410, it seems obvious that something similar could happen in the 27 inch segment where they release a 6bit 2560x1440 panel that is priced significantly below where the 2711 sits. A cheaper 6 bit panel really would be battling in the same segment as the catleaps of the world. As far as making a glossy ips . . . well as much as i dislike apple, they've been doing it for years and everyone does like to follow the leader (for better or worse).

So I have no idea what actually will happen, but this seems at least plausible.
