Dell U2410

LG the only ones who make them? how come IPS panel tv's dont seem to suffer from tinting issues?

How so? In what ways is the u2410 better than the 2209wa?

My wife uses my old 2005fpw (it's awesome) and I'm torn between the 2209wa and the u2410, so your input would be appreciated.

Thanks! :)
Yeah my old 2005fpw was awesome too, thats why i waited so long and final went with the 2209wa last spring. The first thing that really jumped out at me when i got the 2209wa was how much blacker the blacks were and the colors had better saturation. I got the u2410 a few weeks ago and have it sitting between my 2x2209wa currently.

I personally like the pixel pitch of the 24" better and just the shear size of it. The AG coating on the 2209wa and the u2410 seem about the same, i don't mind either. As far as the colors go I would say my u2410 is more uniform than either of my 2209wa surprisingly enough. maybe i was lucky, but I got a winner. Blacks seem a little darker on the 2209wa, but not by a whole lot. saturation seems about the same.

I had gotten a calibrator last summer and did my 2209was with it and they still have the profiles, I liked the colors of the u2410 is sRGB out of the box more than my calibrated 2209wa. I might have did a poor job though so its hard to say, the calibrator has since been returned.

not sure, but a tv screen is probably made using a different process. maybe the larger pixels or the pixel structure has something to do with more consistent results.

This. Also higher end monitors (say 1,000+ professional kind) don't suffer from the tinting issues as well since they are cherry picked.

Excellent write up -- THANKS!

So, I'm guessing you would recommend the 2410 over the 2209... :)

Umm, what does this mean? ;)

The added resolution is nice. If I had to choose one of them it would be the u2410 for sure.

Distance between the pixels. I meant to say pixel density actually. But both are "better" on the u2410 i think.

Can anyone verify the refurb warranty. Dell's outlet site under monitors says 90 days. I have called dell twice and both times was told it was 90 days. I just want to know if someone has proof that they get the full warranty with the refurb before I buy it.

If there was any doubt about the warranty.

90 Day Limited Warranty

Dell Refurbished Monitors comes with a standard 90 day warranty. You can return your unit for repair or call in for technical support for up to 90 days from you date of purchase.

You can get a copy of our limited warranties and guarantees by writing Dell USA LP, Attn: Warranties, One Dell Way, Round Rock, TX 78682. To purchase warranty only or for information on other service options please call 1-800-915-3355 or visit www.dell4me.com/termsandconditions.

Dell outlet currently has these for $399. Im currently thinking about picking up 3 of them for Eyefinity. Any thoughts, think its a bad idea to go with refurbs of these?

*Edit* according to http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/why_dell_outlet?c=us&cs=28&l=en&s=dfb , a refurb warranty is the same as a new warranty, so the refurb should be good for 3 years as well. Don't know if that changes the situation.

Thanks. That is what I thought but someone posted a link to dell site stating they have the same warranty as new.

Well, son of a bitch.I assumed "same as new" warranty meant 3-5 years, as all new monitors have. My fault for not investigating fully, but they also don't make it readily obvious. My refurb U2410 has already shipped, too.

Going through their sites now, but does anyone know if you can buy an extended warranty for refurbs?

Don't now about through Dell but I just did a quote at squaretrade.com. I have purchased a warranty for an ebay item and had to use it. They were great. The want $60 for a 1 year warranty.

Sucks, though, as it basically negates the savings of buying the monitor refurb. I could've just bought the thing new and had the 3-year.

You can return it. New its 499 right now through small business and you get the 3 year warranty.

Did this price just show up within the past few hours? When I checked the Small Business section this morning, I saw $599. F me, lol

After a lot of thought, debate, and forum reading of the pros and cons of multiple makes/models, I decided to go with a refurb U2410 from the Dell Outlet.
Torquemada, I've been considering going with a U2410 refurb as well -- but I'm concerned that the U2410 refurbs might be the ones with problems that everyone returned.

Once you receive your U2410 refurb could you please post your impressions? I'd also love to know if they send you the most recent firmware (Rev A01) or ??

Thanks... and good luck! ;)

P.S. -- if they send you one with the older firmware I'll be going with a new 2209WA.

My guess is if the only issue they had was the tinting dell has said this is within spec so I'm sure they will just send those back out. Issues like dead pixels probably got a replacement panel. Other issues are corrected like faulty electronics so they should be good as new.

And since many people with a tinting issue have returned theirs, it could be that a LOT of the refurbs going out will have the tinting issue.

Its possible. But if you get one with tinting just keep exchanging till you get a good one.

Hey guys, I'm wondering if the u2410 might be too tall for where I want to use it.

Could someone please let me know in inches the total height of the u2410 when in the (1) fully down, and (2) fully up positions?

Thank you!

According to Dell's specs, it's 15.47 inches tall when fully compressed, and 19.40 inches fully extended (in landscape mode).

u2410 is better. 24 inch vs 22inch? no brainer if u ask me.
Yeah, I know what you mean... :) ...but it's twice the price. Plus it's a tad large (physically) so I'm unsure.

Just trying to decide if the 2209wa will be "good enough" for me.

EDIT: By the way, is the 2410 actually better quality than the 2410? Or is it just bigger?

Just my U210 refurb set up and I'm ecstatic about (and relieved!).

No dead or stuck pixels, color uniformity seems correct, backlight bleed is minimal, just a faint, but uniform, milkiness around the edges.

I do notice what people have been saying about the screen looking "dirty" due to the coating, but I don't find it "sparkly" as some have.

Once I found and disabled the ear-sodomizing OSD sound, I've been trucking through the menus. Adobe RGB is the best overall color to my eyes, but a little oversaturated. I might have to go with manual adjustments to get it right.

By the way, mine didn't have any of the usual Dell serial number and revision number decals on the back; is there another way I can find them out?

They are on a pull out tag behind the usb ports on the left side.

For those of you who are looking to buy a U2410, contact Dell Small Business and have a rep send you a quote. I was able to get 2x of them for a lot less than I would have from E&A alone. I am quite happy and should have them by this time next week.

Well, I did it...

I took advantage of the $449 deal and ordered a brand new U2410. :)

I was super-torn between this and the 2209WA, but I decided that this price was too good to pass up. So for around $50 more than the price of a refurb I'll get a brand new unit PLUS a 3 year warranty and 3 year "Advanced Exchange" (whatever that is).

Excellent. Glad to hear it. I'll admit I was a bit nervous for you! ;)

What's that? And how do you disable it?

Adobe RGB is the best overall color to my eyes, but a little oversaturated.
What about sRGB? How's it look with that setting vs Adobe RGB?

The OSD by default has a navigation sound that you can disable. Quite grating.

sRGB looks as good, just less saturated, so I'm using it at the moment.
