Dell U2410

What do you mean you installed clear type? ClearType is built into Windows XP and higher, you don't install anything...

Although in your case it sounds like Windows has the wrong RGB ordering for subpixel hinting.

Yes, by default, XP does have clear type installed. What I was referring to was a clear type tuner.

The sharpness adjustment tip above has helped significantly.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I got off the phone with my company's Dell rep and he gave me these prices shipped:
2209WA $251
U2410 $486

Should I bite?

Man, I'm starting to feel $599 CND isn't a good deal at all for this monitor.

Anyone recommend another place to buy it from than Dell.ca?

what are you people complaining about?

599 CND is like 400 EUR

In Belgium we pay 660 Euro for this screen through the dell website. That is 970 CND or 900 USD.

^^^
yeah, but everybody knows buying through Dell is expensive .... it was 490 euros for a while and now is about 525 euros (at least in the NL)

Shit!! we're at europe the dumbest of the planet, paying up to twice the price at US.

then you must be getting a discount because when I go to Dell Holland the price is € 653,31 Tax included.

No wonder you pay high prices, you don't seem to pay attention to what people write ;-)

I said DON'T go through Dell for good prices !!!

haha easier said than done.

There aren't many shops here that sell them anyways.
And those that do charge even more than Dell's site. go figure.

I want to buy 3 of these but it appears the $499 or price is no longer available anywhere. Just $599 from Dell including their ebay store. Will the discounted price show up again soon?

I've even heard of 10% off for signing up for a Dell account but I spoke with customer service and was told that is not the case.

Decided to try and call customer service. I told them I was interested in purchasing the U2410 and wondered if there were any discounts available. Told her I'd seen it recently on Dell.com for $499. She put me on hold for a minute or so to speak to supervisor (or so she said) and then offered me $50 off each.

I said I'd just wait for another sale on Dell.com and she offered to put me on hold again to check and came back quickly with $100 off per monitor.

Got 2 on the way now and maybe I'll order another one. Want to see how this NVIDIA Vision/Nvinity thing works out.

I bought my 2410 a few months ago, and though the picture seems to be uniform, I just cannot get used to the color. the whites are terrible, to the point where I think something must be wrong with it. i even used a spyder calibration tool.

the only way i can describe it is that it looks the way a white ceiling does after someone has been smoking in that room for like 3 years. everything is just yellowed out. i've adjusted everything, but to no effect.

i am considering sending it in for a replacement (dithering issue too). it seems like the A01s are out now. do you think if I send it in now, i'm likely to get an A01 back?

has anyone else gotten an A01 back under warranty yet?

Congrats. Awesome monitor.

It sill is impossible to say what's the percentage of defective screens though. The immense majority of the happy users are not going to search for that thread and comment on it. So maybe the risk is much lower than this may makes us think it is ?

What ? As easy done than said:

520 euros, in stock ..... http://www.databyte.nl/U2410B

that's in holland. I'm from Belgium.

I'd rather not buy abroad. Considering all the problems i've seen on the forum with this monitor.

Imagine if I have to go through several RMAs because of tinting issues or rev a00 (yes it's flashable but if it fails then i'm screwed).

I don't know databyte's policy. Do I deal with Dell directly or databyte. I'll have to look that up.

Why not just flash it yourself?
Supposedly, flashing it yourself will void your warranty. And they can see that you flashed it yourself, since the official Dell firmware is displayed in yellow text, the leaked firmware in white text.

yeah and im having trouble with the color, as i explained a few posts ago. so, has anyone gotten one?

Roughly 15 months ago I decided to upgrade my aging Sony SDM-81 which was roughly 9 years old. This was one of the earliest 18.1" LCD Monitors on the market. I bought a Samsung 22" as its replacement but couldn't deal with the horrible backlight bleed and a noisy transformer so I returned it.

I started reading this thread around October 2009 and have read all 90+ pages not to mention all the posts of the Dell Forums regarding the U2410. Once A01 was released I decided to call Dell and order one and, at the last moment, one became 2.

So here I sit with 2 U2410s A01 on my desk and I am very satisfied. I do not professionally edit photos but I am a heavy PC user and would be considered fairly picky. I have to say that the most discussed issues (graininess and color uniformity) are a non issue to me. With both monitors side by side I can see a very slight difference between the two when viewing a white background but it is not enough for me to care. I am sure a little advanced adjustment could yield matching displays but honestly it is so subtle I don't want to spend the time tweaking.

I want to thank everyone for their posts and all the info that the early purchasers shared. If anyone has any questions about ownership I will be glad to answer.

So what was your total? Did you get the monitors at $400 each?

I have no ideal, I wish I knew as I wanted to buy a u2410 on ebay or some cheaper merchant myself. With all the issues though I hesitate to make a purchase for this monitor myself as it is a bit of money from my end to get what might be a defective troubled product.

Dell's US forum rep, Chris M, has stated that Dell will have no way of knowing if you flashed it unless you specifically tell them. I don't think the text color means much. It's only if you brick it while flashing that you are SOL.

Otherwise, it's don't ask, don't tell. ;)

i just picked up 3 Dell U2410 A01 screens from a local supplier (they had 5 A01 screens in stock, the other 4 were A00) a few days ago for my eyefinity setup. 550 a piece. wow its a crapload of money but wow it does look pretty damn nice, and i really like these monitors.

Would you mind posting a picture of these.. I have been considering picking up 3 of these myself, thanks

I love looking at "I never have nor ever will sleep with a woman" computer setups.

ROFL. had many over the years. but i never paid for them. (not outright anyways LOL) i just got lucky with some finiancial circumstances last week otherwise i wouldnt have it.
oh yea. sour grapes much :)

and this IS [H] forum. no pun intended....

Wow.. what a long thread. Sounds like A01 has way better quality than A00.
Sounds like someone couldn't be bothered reading that long thread.. ;)

(A00 and A01 are identical except that A01 solves dithering visible in dark colours in the U2410's sRGB/Adobe screen modes)

EDIT - Or so I thought. There is word around (which may or may not be true) that a hardware change was made to revision A01 in relation to the panels FRC dithering. So there may indeed be a hardware change..
Given Dells "refusal" to comment on hardware changes my current bet is there HAS been a change to the hardware..

True :) I didn't read everything but I knew the difference bw A00 and A01. By looking at posts since Jan 2010. I see nothing but praise.. that's how I got this impression.

I got refurbished U2410 with A01. It's gorgeous. It even has more uniform screen than my previous U2410, not to mention all the dithering problems went away :)
