Dell U2410

Has anyone received a NEW unit with A01 from Dell? I was going to wait for the ZR24W, but honestly, that will probably be a crap-shoot (I've heard HP has some quality control issues) and good reviews could take months to come out.

Edit: Nevermind, the guy on the previous page received an A01 on a new order. So I guess they must be shipping those from Dell now. Who knows if they are completely out of A00 in all of their warehouses though.

Guys - I just got a brand new REV A01 Made in Mexico DEC 09 and it looks GREAT!

No noticeable tint at all . . . .

also came with a sheet of paper claiming its fantastic color accuracy measured with a MINOLTA colorometer before being shipped?? Does everyone elses come with this?

Ordered a U2410, will be coming Tuesday. I'll let everyone know the status if its A00/A01. I'm upgrading from a DELL 2405fpw.

Does Dell (Canada) have any sort of satisfaction guarantee for this monitor or their products in general? I know with big box retailers like Best Buy, you can pretty much return anything if you don't like it. I'm guessing Dell would have some sort of restocking fee though?

If there is something wrong, they will want you to try another one. But for me, they gave me a refund as I was really unhappy. I also didn't have to pay any shipping.

I'd like to try this monitor, but I'm really unsure how I will like it. It has both good and bad aspects, I'm just not sure how bad the bad qualities really are. :p

Since I don't know of any stores that have this monitor, I was wondering if I could just get one from Dell and return it if I really didn't like it. Did you have to pay any restocking fee or anything?

Edit: Oh yea I was also wondering how "wide gamut" affects how things look on the screen. From what I understand, it makes some colors too saturated and look unnatural. Does this monitor still have this problem? Thanks in advance!

I'm returning mine. They are not making me pay a restocking fee. I just can't get used to the aggressive antiglare coating. It is very sparkly. It is about the same as my old 2007wfp IPS but being much bigger it is more annoying to me. I also just don't really like a monitor this big. I thought I would but it is too big for me. If only they made a 1920x1200 IPS in 22inches.

As far as colors as long as you run in RGB mode they are great. This is one area I think this monitor really shines. The dithering issue with RGB mode has been fixed with firmware A01.

Alright great, thanks for the quick response!

I also had another question though. I was reading the review linked in the first post of this page, and somewhere on there it says something about a low input lag "gaming" mode:

However, Dell have included a 'through mode' type feature for the U2410 when using the 'game' preset mode. This bypasses certain internal electronics and is designed to help reduce input lag. We tested the input lag using this feature as well, and the results are included in the above comparison graph. Input lag was significantly reduced to 14.4ms average, with a maximum of 20ms.

Also mentions...

The DCR feature can only be selected through the OSD when you have entered the 'game' preset mode.

I am interested in this low input lag settings, but I can still use the low input lag setting WITHOUT the DCR, right?

Edit: Oh yeah, another question! lol :D
How is gaming at 720P fullscreened, or some other lower resolution setting? Does it increase input lag significantly?

The A00-A01 revisions you talk about, are they panel revisions (hardware) or firmware revisions (software)?

I can only find A00 rev. in my country. Will I be able to flash it with the new leaked M1f19 firmware and convert it into a "native" A01 panel, or are some hardware improvements made from one revision to another?

Thanks in advance.

Can someone tell me why this screen is worth $1100 besides the resolution? I really wanna order two of them, but I just don't see how its value compares to a 3008/7 which seems a lot larger for the price... I'm not to up to date on the monitor technology/benefits.

Yes. There are no hardware differences that I am aware of, or that have been reported - either by Dell or other users. The firmware update will address the dithering.

- 1920x1200 (as opposed to 1080) - harder to find as apparently the industry thinks everyone just uses their expensive computers to watch movies all day
- wide gamut with two excellent RGB modes - hence future proof as more software and OS become color-managed. excellent RGB modes allow for current RGB color space software and OS to be displayed properly.
- every connection type possible at this point, from Display Port back to VGA
- usb/card reader
- low input lag (though I think this potentially negative aspect of modern monitors is overrated)
- plethora of useful presets, incuding aforementioned RGB modes, gaming mode (reduced lag) and full custom modes

There currently isn't another monitor offering all this for a similar price point, IMO. Wide gamut monitors can be annoying at this point in time as most software and OS are not color managed and hence are simply not ready for the wider gamut and render in RGB. This makes colors look far too oversaturated when coupled with a wide gamut monitor running in standard (full gamut) mode. The fantastic RGB modes in the U2410 are what really make this monitor, IMO. The sRGB is very accurate, and the Adobe RGB mode adds just enough expansion to this gamut to give colors slightly more vibrancy than the sRGB mode.

Has anyone noticed that the 2405FPW dimensions are 100% bull$hit? There's no way its 22 x 9 x 22 inches with the stand.

Speaking of dimensions, if you put the Dell U2410 completely against the wall, what's the depth of the monitor?

And another question. I have three monitors at home: Samsung Syncmaster 970p, Samsung Syncmaster 193p and the Samsung Syncmaster 930BF. Now my question is, these screens all have a matte anti-glare coating. How is the anti-glare coating on the Dell U2410 compared to these screens? Is it quite similar or much worse? I hope someone can answer this, I am still interested in this monitor, but the reports of a 'grainy' screen coating are worrisome. Is it really that bad?

Is there any difference updating to A01 than purchasing a native new version panel display?

I've seen the U2410 and it is more grainy than my Samsung 193P+. Hard to say if it's that bad as it's a matter of opinion but I think I could live with it. I'm waiting for the new 24" HP though, hopefully it will be less grainy and have less tinting issues, although it does use an LG panel too,

I would consider getting this monitor if it had a 120Hz refresh rate. I'm sure 2650x1440 3D monitors will start becoming available within a year.

I received my three U2410's last week...all of them are REVA01 and I don't noticed any dithering OR tinting issues. I'm not a videophile or anything, but in RGB mode they all look very comparable to my old trusty 20WGMX2 that they replaced. I'm very happy with these monitors.

I think it's a safe bet that if you order these new you WILL get A01's.

Still seems that this screen is one of the better choices currently on the market, despite some issues. If you got a Dell U2410 that has:

-No (pink/green) tinting issues
-No dithering issues in sRGB mode
-No dead pixels

Then you've got a pretty good screen.

Dithering shouldn't be an issue anymore, supposedly all new screens are rev A01. And if you have dead pixels or tinting issues you can just return the screen for a replacement. I haven't seen the screen personally, but from what I've read, the 'grainy' anti-glare coating is for some people a problem, but others don't mind it at all. That's something personal.

yeah, you need to use game mode to offer the "low input lag", but you can control the DCR on or off as well separately :)

This is no longer the case:

"* Pink/Green Tint - Note: All received captures were tested and are within manufacturer specifications for Color Gradation. Exchanges will no longer be offered for this complaint since a dispatch of another display will not solve the issue as this is a normal panel characteristic and not a hardware failure."

Fortunately, in my country, it's possible to return a product within two weeks after purchase as long as you have the original package and nothing is damaged :)

Got mine today, shipped from TN, got Rev A01, no pink/green tint, sRGB mode seems to work well, better than cheap sRGB TN Dell panel this replaces. Calibrates okay with SypderElite 3.

Wow...

Considering how many monitors I had to go through in order to get two working 2209WA monitors way back when...where most of them had this exact kind of issue...yeah, completely turns me off to purchasing this monitor any time soon.

Haha.

* Buzzing - Set the Brightness to 76 or greater and adjust the Contrast to 25

Unbelievable.

This thread is way too long :)

I'm planning to buy a new computer right now, and I want a new LCD (I currently have a CRT), so what's the verdict on this Dell model?

It seems to be pretty hit and miss, and I what is mainly interesting me are all the graininess issues... how bad is it?

Also, I'd appreciate if anyone could explain what this dithering effect is, and the green/pink tinting on the LCD, I'd like to know what to look for when buying a new monitor.

It's one of those things you're going to have to see for yourself to understand, so opinions on how bad it is or isn't don't mean much. Personally I'm in the "middle" in that it doesn't bother me that much, but I'd still much rather the anti-glare coating was less aggressive.

Dither isn't an issue since the A01 firmware. Green/Pink tint is a random chance thing. Some don't have any you can notice, some are very mild, and some are so bad that it's a disgrace they're selling them. It is most noticeable on plain white and light grey backgrounds, and runs top to bottom, left to right, or diagonally, and tends to be green on one side and pink (red) on the other. It can also contain blue, and tint may only be present on one side. You tend not to notice it on moving video so much. Very mild cases might be corrected by turning down the red/green/blue values to minimize tint, but usually there is nothing to be done other than replace the screen.

Thank you PatK :)

I talked with some local stores here (in Israel) and none have the A01 revision - they say that it's only available in the US right now.

Also, I can't find any store that actually puts up these monitors for display, because they're too expensive. Damn it.

I am wanting to pick up two of these to go with my 2405, and it looks like I missed the last big sale on these middle of January, and I can't find any coupons that will make a dent in the price. Anyone have any idea when these might go back on sale again?

TYIA

I ordered a U2410 from Dell by phone on Friday. It shipped from TN and I got it today. It's an A01, assembled in Mexico. No bad pixels, no tint issue that I could notice by eyeballing an all white screen. I think DVDs look great in sRGB mode. I really like this monitor a lot.

how much did you pay?

Question :

I currently own a 2407WFP-HC. Been using it for years.

I was looking for a second monitor to use side by side with it.

As someone whose standards were set by the aforementioned 2407WFP-HC, will I notice these grain/tint issues? Or am I more likely to fall into the category of people who love this monitor?

It's currently $600 on Dell.ca (down from $750) and was wondering if I should pull the trigger today.

Thanks.

Hi,

I live in Vancouver, Canada and I received my A01 U2410 two weeks ago. I'm coming from a 2407WFP as well. I have both monitors in a dual monitor setup.

Both monitors have also been calibrated using a Spyder3Pro.

I don't notice any grain/tint issues at all, and have been quite happy with it.

My only issue so far has been when reading text with small fonts. I seem to have the coloured text (coloured halos) problem, which seems to be common with wide gammut monitors. I'm using sRGB mode and have installed "clear type", but, the problem still persists. Not a huge problem, but, still bothersome.

Overall I've been very happy with the monitor though. When editing photos, the colours look much more natural and realistic, and it has amazing sharpness.

BTW, I know the current deal is $599 CDN, but it was on sale for $480 CDN just 3 weeks ago...

Hello everyone, is there everyone who has both the U2410 and the 2709W so he can compare them? I can't choose between them, and i think there are a lot people that want a compare review! Thanks :)

And playing around with the sharpness setting doesn't fix that?

What do you mean you installed clear type? ClearType is built into Windows XP and higher, you don't install anything...

Although in your case it sounds like Windows has the wrong RGB ordering for subpixel hinting.

I bought my 2410 a few months ago, and though the picture seems to be uniform, I just cannot get used to the color. the whites are terrible, to the point where I think something must be wrong with it. i even used a spyder calibration tool.

the only way i can describe it is that it looks the way a white ceiling does after someone has been smoking in that room for like 3 years. everything is just yellowed out. i've adjusted everything, but to no effect.

i am considering sending it in for a replacement (dithering issue too). it seems like the A01s are out now. do you think if I send it in now, i'm likely to get an A01 back?
