Dell Outlet - Ridiculous

Just went back to see if any $599-649 E6300 setups with 2GB of ram were left. None. Cheapest one was $749. I saw 8-10 yesterday. Must be shopping season.
after reading a post above, I was looking for a nice 2GB Core 2 system, but couldn't find one on the cheap.

If it's worth it to you and if you're able to - search the outlet at late night (2,3, 4 am) hours. Less people on there hunting. I consistently saw C2D systems on there from $489-$599 depending on the setup and AMD X2's even cheaper (low $300s)

I hate you guys... I really wasn't looking for another computer.

But my finger slipped and entered my CC number. ;)
Forgot to mention - Bios is locked for overclock (and any other useful options), but I have heard rumors that you can open the case, take a look at the intel chip running the board & flash the bios!

too bad the e521 amd computers come with a 305 watt power supply. i wonder what would happen if you plug a 7800gtx in there...

also, do you think you can swap power supply's from a dell 9100 with this one? would the 9100 have problems? would the e521 have problems?

Good question on the power supply - not 100% sure if it would fit in the case, but I am sure it would work even if it did not fit. Just make sure it has the correct attachments, I think power supply connectors to the motherboard changed a year or 2 back (industry wide).

You could also plug the 7900gtx into a seperate power supply, but your computer would not boot unless you had that powersupply on as well (which can take some creative wiring if it does not have an on button).

i wouldn't know where to start with home brew wiring, i'm just hoping it will fit. i put it an order on the 3800 x2 at $299. basic system like the op, just paid a bit more than him. =T

here are the differences

dimension 9100
375 Watt DC Power Supply

* Heat dissipation: 1280 BTU/hr
* Voltage: 90 to 135 V and 180 to 265 V at 50/60 Hz
* Backup battery: 3-V CR2032 lithium coin cell

e521
305 Watt DC Power Supply

* Backup battery: 3-V CR2032 lithium coin cell

i don't think they fit since the mobo's are different sized. it doesn't matter, etiehr way, whichever one is slower is going to my girlfriend's parents. so if it doesnt' work out at all with the 7800gtx, then they get a nice new 3800x2 system.

well, jsut read on anotehr forum that the stock 305 watt psu can support a 7950gt and a pata hd, so it shouldn't be a problem swapping for a 7800gtx and nothing else. (everythign else i have is external)

Yea a 7900 card should be no problem. Dell gets there PSU's from PC&Cooling. Even though the wattage is low, look at the amps on the 12 volt rail/rails.

It has the space to fit another HDD below the current HDD, but I did not notice any PCI-E connections on the PSU, so if the 7900GT needs a power plug connected, another PSU might be needed

What is with the CPU names? AMD X2 2000? What is that? And where do you get any information on mobo/socket?

If the systems info says DDR2, then its socket a AM2 as socket 939 AMD's didnt support DDR2

that is an X22 3800+ -> 2000MHz.

if you click details, it tells you what it is.

amd 2000 = 3800 x2
amd 2200 = 4200 x2

All Dell AMD systems use the AM2 chipset. That was one of the reasons dell didn't use AMD for so long, the high end and low end CPU's (sempron, athlon 64, X2) always seemed to be on different sockets. This way they can get away with making one standard Mobo. I think the mobo's are nvidia 6150 integrated video and nforce4 BTX boards.

Somehow, I'm betting the week after Christmas should be a VERY good time to come back to the Dell outlet. Can you imagine the deals then?

how are you people getting all these deals?!
I mean, that guy who bough the GATEWAY PC off dell, WTF? all I see is Dell desktops, also how often do these deals come? for the dimension and XPS desktops, the cheapest is $410...

The deals have cooled off at dell outlet...there was a 1-2 day period where their were $350 - $450 e6300 computers consistently... now the cheapest is $550 if you are lucky :(

Like the prior poster said... check back around Christmas!

(I actually think that the motherboards that went out with a good percentage of the xps 410's were defective. The returns were fixed and placed on the outlet. Now most of those returns are gone)

Hi All, longtime lurker who's absorbed a lot of great tips on this site, wanted to thank the original poster on this, since I just picked up the following deal:

- 15% off coupon from another site:
Shop the Dell Outlet for 15% off and
free 3-5 day shipping and handling on
select refurbished Dimension, Inspiron
& XPS systems priced at or above
$900 (before tax & fees).

Coupon¹ Code: T4BGDBNKXC?Q0G

that took off another $179.85, bringing the total before taxes to $1,019.15! I priced this system out new and it came out to $1889! , if you include the tax, I ended up saving $942 on this system!

What do you guys think of this system? I'll probably upgrade the graphics card at some point, but no rush, as I'm not a hardcore gamer. One question - the hard drives are two 500 gb units set up in a RAID 1 config, how hard (if possible) is it to convert this to a RAID 0 config if I wanted to do so?

THIS FORUM ROCKS!!! :) :D

Quick note on OC'ing Dells...

The XPS 700 desktops have BIOS access to the goodies...so if you want to tweak, go that way.

I was able to get a nice stable OC on my Dimension 4600 from stock 3.2Ghz to 3.6 using Speedfan. Turns out the IC that controls the system bus speed is compatible with one of the IC's listed in the drop box, and you can change the speed of the system on the fly. Confirmed via Speedfan, CPUz, SisoftSandra and the CPU speed readout in the console of HL2 when you first load the game. I did a writeup on the Dell forums about it under the nick dTERM. I couldn't get it to run stable any higher, the on-board audio started buzzing.

some one mentioned that ebay sellers like to snatch good deals of dell outlet and resell it on ebay. Do those people list it as new system or refurbished? Does anyone know?

Thanks

I see alot of them listed as Refurbished

Anyone still checking out this for deals might want to look towards the Dell small business thread that recently started - most of the new computers listed on that thread compete with the refurb ones selling at the outlet!

The E521 that I got off the outlet comes to 869 after the nice SB deals. I paid 549 for it at the outlet. There aren't very many killer deals right now. Wait until after xmas.

Check it out at 3:00am. I just saw a AMD x2 3800, 1GB ram, 160GB HD, DVD burner for $299. Same thing with a E6300 for $399.

There were literally 5+ pages of systems in the $200-$400 range, and many were burning hot deals.

Dont forget those E521 machines have no IDE ports, its all Sata (Sata DVD+-RW drive!)

Damn. I wish I didn't have to work in the morning. I can't remember the last time I was awake at 3am.

I use Proxomitron and some Javascript to snag these deals when I need them. I have it hammer the site all the time, automatically grab systems below a certain price, and send me a text message when I get one. I picked up an E521 for my grandmother last night (for a bit more than what you guys have gotten them for, lucky!).

Honestly, for anyone who isn't an enthusiast, there's no reason NOT to do this. Even during off times, you can get pretty good deals... its great when you need a decently priced machine right now (especially since I live 90 miles from the Outlet warehouse, so I get them the next morning).

I expect they don't make any money at all on them. They get rid of them because keeping them on hand is bad for the balance sheet; the prices get insanely low towards the end of each financial quarter. In January of this year, there were P4 630 machines going for less than $180.

Saw two great deals. Saw the 299 x2 that the other guy saw.
But the real deal was for 10 secs today at 12 and was x2 512 dvdrw for 209

Dell generally charges $130.00 to go from 1GB to 2GB. I doubt they're using premium ram, so you could easilly get equivalent ram for $200.00.

Personally, I'd buy the 1GB rig, buy my own ram and sell the Dell's 512mb sticks.

You only have to net $70.00, to break even......I'd be surprised if you couldn't get at least $100 and perhaps as much as $120, depending on what dell sells.

I had actually been messing around with Java making something to do just this. Hadn't considered the text message thing though. Good call. :)

Anyone know if us Canadians can take up on these phat deals? It'd STILL be worth it even with the exchange rate

Wonder if the shipping would be free or cheap lol

Nope you will have to go to http://www.dell.ca/ as the software loaded is lisenced to the US only. Went through that is the past when I purchased a lappy for a cousin and they made me return it so they can ship a "canadian" one from Canda.
