I have a feeling that someone dropping 4 grand on a laptop with SLi is not gonna be to worried about 150 bucks.

I find it weird that people complain about a PPU in a laptop, but have no problems with SLI in a Laptop.
To me the latter makes the least sense...
 
agreed, people just like whingeing about PPU's.

there is some Inq link last night claiming that the notebook vendors have got a PCIe die-shrunk PPU.
 
Yeah, something else thats not going to add any true value to a laptop other than sucking your battery dry quicker.


IMO I think they should have rather focused on getting the desktop market going, it seems to me that they have abandoned it.


If these guys wants to make MASSIVE strides in market penetration, they should release a cheap PCIe version for the desktops and they should make a folding/setti/etc client for it that can support multiple PPU's. I know many folks who would buy 7 at a time just for folding alone, not to mention, it would actually have an alternate function.
 
people have said it above, but it's worth reiterating. if you're putting these kinds of video cards, memory, hard disks, and LCDs in your "laptop" computer then the LAST thing you're really worrying about is battery life since it will likely spend most, if not all, of it's life plugged into the wall.
 
SLI in a laptop is quite retarded. A single high end chip is more than adequate to drive the resolution of a laptop's screen, two is overkill, only making it harder to cool, and cost more. No real benefit. Its a stupid idea.
 
it's a WUXGA screen, i.e. 1900x1200. Unless I'm missing something many people use sli to power that on the desktop.
 
they might, but its not needed. a single GTX can handle that pretty easily, SLI only really becomes useful, to a small extern, at 2560x1600

The people that buy this laptop will primarily be gamers. Much easier to close the lid and lug a 10 pound laptop to a LAN than carry a desktop, monitor, keyboard, cables etc.
 
That isnt a laptop. Thats a desktop replacement that games at 1080p. SLI is used by a fair ammount of people at 1080p to maintain AA and AF to max. So SLI makes sense. Nothing wrong with adding a Physics card into the mix either =]
 
Too bad the 8700s are such crappy cards. Im thinking with the nVidia die shrink well see some very nice laptop power very soon. And by laptop i mean portable desktop.
 
Since when is an SLI notebook not a DTR? I dont know of any SLI notebooks under 8 lbs, do you?
