dead rising impressions

GOD you need an HDTV to READ the text, it sucks not making tons of money :(

Save system is really frustrating because you can't access them early on!

The gameplay system is really cool, but that whole "time limit" makes failing all the more grueling.

Also hate how the NPC's are useless/die.

Is it my f-ed up mind or do the female zombies drop to their knees and "attack" often? When I was trying to save the Japanese dudes, they both died. One shot himself in the head the other was getting 69'ed by a female zombie.

I'm still on my first run through and I haven't really bothered doing many of the quests. I'm pretty close to killing 30,000 zombies now.

Frank is a major psycho in my game. He's wearing the kid's Ratman clothing, tennis shoes with white socks, the wrap around sunglasses, and the Megaman hat. Then, I run around with the toy buster cannon wailing on zombies.

Want a good weapon to take down carlito the first time? Get a few soccer balls. Seriously, those things are heatseakers with good damage.

I had 6 zombies walking around with Servbot masks and was taking photos of them doing silly things. I have one of them all falling down escalators that got me 5,000 PP.

Am I correct that this game has NO multiplayer?
Kinda dissapointing if thats true.....

would you guys still consider it a fun game to whip out at a party?

Yes. It's the reason why we got it :). Not everything has to be multi-player :D

Yeah, you've seen it correctly. Have you noticed there are two mystery achievements called "Snuff shot B" and "Snuff shot J"? It doesn't tell you what you need to do to earn them, but the B and J made it pretty clear to me what I need to take a picture of :D

Adam, the annoying clown is probably one of the easiest bosses i've encountered. He is too hard to go melee with, as he will blow fire and shred you with the dual chainsaws. However, he is a breeze if you have the SMG and several pistols. Right near where this fight begins, there are some zombie cops that you can attack and take pistols from. Just keep your distance and avoid the knives that he throws at you. Once he starts blowing up a balloon, take your gun and blow it up. If you blew it up at the right time, it will cause massive damage and stun him for a short while. Once he is stunned, take the SMG and blast him like crazy till he shields himself again. The key is to keep your distance.

The save system isn't really new. If you've played a bunch of Metroid or Castlevania, you're used to save systems like this.

However, there are a few problems with Dead Rising I've come across...

1. The text. Like everyone else here has observed, reading the text while playing on an SDTV is very hard in some places.
2. Certain respawning enemies. Namely, the convicts on the technical. It would be really nice if you could just waste 'em and be done with that.
3. Some of the friendly AI can be stupid at times.

However, this is offset by the fact that the game is simply a blast as you move from mission to mission. This is one of the most entertaining games I've picked up this year. Thumbs up.

Now, does anyone have any tips for beating that #!@$!@$ing clown?

WickedKitty is an administrator and said Capcom has heard the complaints about the text and plans to fix them.

Now, all they need is to find a way to make is so we can throw Otis to the Zombies.

Hey guys, I was curious how in the world you can take Isabella out when you go to find her at the grocery shop. I ran out of bullets, and can't find anyway to melee her. Any idea's?

Get three pistols from the cops near the Paradise Plaza exit to outside, if you don't find three just run out and come back in. Then, stand in the fountain and shoot at her when she stops.

Anyways, I just beat the game 5 mins ago.(true, overtime ending) It was awesome, I'm going to get 5000 orange juices and drive around the maintenance tunnel and get 54,000-ish kills so I can get the REAL MegaBuster. :)

Funny, I'm about 5 minutes away from beating it for the the first go 'round... except somehow I've managed to save my way into a hole. After the "Butcher" scoop I immediately get a "Scoop Expired" and the only choice I have is to wait it out. This is not fun.

What I have been doing is going straight from one place to another. It's really hard to get them all, I just try to NOT miss the ones that are part of the story. Those get top priority over everything else.

I found a nail gun on the scafolding. I ran into one of the stores that was under construction, she followed me in an basically got stuck, I then just popped her full of nails.

Getting the enemy stuck is how I've beaten every boss so far. Kinda sucks that that's how to beat them. The music is pretty funny when you listen to it.

Is it me or does the timer in the background take a lot of the fun out of this game? Scoops are coming in so fast that I feel stressed to get them done instead of exploring and testing out cool stuff from the mall.

The friendly AI is pissing me off to no end also. Most of the time I have to babysit the people or they get lost and killed quick.

The reciever/cell phone thing is rediculous also.

Makes it fun. He said "Pick me up in 72 hours..." not "I'll call you when I'm done." :)

When you finish the game THEN you can unlock the unlimited time thing and just whail on zombies. If the weapons didn't break, I'd have the katana and axe all the time.

So I beat the Preist dude in the Movie Theater on my first try, I jumped up on the stage, and he appeared to be stuck right in front of me. I couldn't hit him with the Katana, so I switched to the Sledgehammer and proceeded to smash his brain in. Easy, and I was looking forward to coming in here to post and brag about it.

But then I died escorting the survivors back, and of course there was no opportunity to save. No big deal I thought, I had previously found the Sledgehammer in the theater in one of the boxes behind the concession stand, I'll just do the same thing again.

No dice.

First off, the sledgehammer wasn't there on subsequent attempts. So I figured I'd just go in with the Katana and SMG and it would be no problem.

Nope.

I failed on about the next 6 attempts, even first making sure that I ran to the hardware store to get a sledgehammer, I could never get him stuck again. So after several more failed attempts, I finally managed to beat him again, only to die again escorting the survivors.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

I did this about 10 more times, mostly failing, but twice more succeeding to kill the preist but dying on the way back. I seriously want to find the person who designed the save system and give him a swift kick in the nuts.

Eventually I figured out how to defeat the preist fairly consistently, use a Katana and a Battle Axe. If you damage him enough with the Katana he will briefly drop to his knees, but you can't hit him there with the Katana. At that point switch to the Axe and you can do mega damage, usually to the point that he just drops to his knees again and you continue to wail on him until he's dead.

However on my final successful attempt, I brought two OJs with me for the ride home, and I changed my route. I took the survivors upstairs, armed them with bats from the sporting goods store, gave them all OJ to max out there health, and then went down through the sporting good store and across through the men's clothing store to avoid Zombies. Because I was carrying the Brainwashing book that the Preist dropped, the survivors actually fought pretty well.

Over all this one section took me over 2 hours to complete. Though I did gain 4 levels from it. I started at level 19, finished at level 23. Saved, now going to bed.

You are FAR more dedicated than I was :) I ended up getting Ending B.. which isn't so bad.. but I kind of feel cheated. I think it will be a few days before I pick this up again. Besides, I've got some Chromehounds and Street Fighter to play ;)

They explained that saying the communications were being blocked. Yea the game is getting better once you learn the shit they should have told you. Mind you I can't do most of the side missions because I can't read the text telling me about them......

Has anyone elce been playing around with the blenders. I just tend to use the one that gives you pretty much unlimited health right before I attack a boss. Seems to work pretty well.

friend brought his xbox 360 over and dead rising last night. watched him play for a bit and at first it was entertaining and then it got boring. i had a go and was having some fun but it quickly turned into a hack and slash game, boring. not to mention the fact that i died so close to a save point and had to start all over again, fucking stupid.

Good news is it gets better once you start to level up. Also once you start to figure it out you will not get pissed off as fast. For me the first boss pissed me off to no end untill I got the SMG then he was easy. The cons outside? I mixed the pie with the oj in a blender then drank it right before fighting them. I let them crash the car into a tree trying to hit me then hit each of them with mr smg. They fell fast.

Hey, I've got a question. Do you need to get a specific ending in the game to unlock the "Unlimited" mode or whatever mode it is that lets you wander around the mall and do whatever you want to? Thats really all I want to do, I'm sicking of being limited by time contraints. I just want to walk around and kill zombies with all kinds of weapons for hours.

I keep reading that you need to get the "True Ending" to unlock Infinite mode. I got ending B and it didn't even unlock Overtime mode. It seems like a waste, I'll have to play though again to unlock Overtime Mode, then yet again to get the "True Ending" (I'm assuming) to get the Infinite Mode. I don't think this game has that kind of replayability.

I think this game has problems. I hate to say it cuz I like it but..
I killed the 3 guys in the jeep, then after I got some people to escort I went to take them to save place and the 3 guys where back again... 3 times now. do they stay dead???

and the kid that u have to take a 500pp photo with i did that and he stills saying I need to.. humm..

My understanding is that the convicts will respawn until you destroy the Hummer.

the game is making me mad. I am level 15 and at the beging again
had to start now 7 times ARG!

Guess this content didn't make it?

It sounds like, when you die, you are saving and quitting. You need to save at a couch or a bathroom so that when you die, you can resume the game from the last save.

As much as I wanted to like this game, the escort missions will keep me from playing it any further. You can't hit the zombies attacking them without taking out your "friendlies" half the time. that and the single save, which just causes the "bad save" syndrome and starting over again.

Too much forced replay to extend the game.

I'll stick with RE4

AARGH!

You could get a memory card and save the game to that as well........

So far I haven't had to restart the game but since I can't read the text on the screen from the couch I'm sure I'll need too.....

That first pic is DEFINITELY in the game... but it's a spoiler. I'm pretty sure the other one is too.

Also, get the entertainment and engineering books from paradise plaza and the criminal biology book from Wonderland. Then kill the clown boss and take two mini chainsaws. Those two will last you the rest of the game and tear everything apart easily, including bosses in 4 hits. Then use the control pannel where you fought the clown and the security guard will lead you to a secret passage to skip over the prisoners for those pesky escort missions.

I made my second game today and killed 55,000 zombies in a 72 hour game... the real mega buster is AWESOME! With the car and van in the maintenance tunnel you get kill all the zombies with about 30-35 hours remaining to do whatever. I also did hand to hand with 1,000 zombies too for that achievement... double lariat pwnz them.

This game is amazing minus the terrible AI and REALLY tight time schedule for scoops. I'm making my 3rd game and I'm going for 100%.

What sucks is that I killed the prisoners, but they come back after a while, I didn't know I had to blow up the jeep. I'm in the tunnels now. And you NEED the car for that damn thing. The amount of zombies in there is insane. My kid is awake so I have to play NFS:MW. But as soon as I have a moment, it's back in the game.

I do have some art to do, but I'll do it tomorrow :)

I've completed the game, but with ending "A". That unlocked the overtime mode. However I still have my last save prior to ending "A" and it's far enough in the past that I think I can start from there rather than the beginning and get a different ending. My "prior" save is on my HDD, my post-ending "A" is saved to my MU.

BTW - toward the end, the prisoner dudes disappear on their own, as does Cletus, the Gun Store dude.

EDIT: Lol, nevermind, apparently Ending "A" is the best I could hope for at this point. The "True" ending comes from completing Overtime mode, which I just unlocked by getting ending "A".

And apparently that picture above of Frank on the Tank is the final scene from the "True" ending.

I am loving this game. I favorite part so far is watching the clown leader die. Cracks me up. You have to be extremely quick with the camera to capture those PP moments.

No, the clown shows up in Wonderland Plaza after Otis says the ride there is going out of control on like the first day.

The cons in the center come back. Even after you destroy the hummer. But now I just mix coffee with orange juice, run to the picnic area. That way they can't run you over and the roof of the picnic area is too low for the guy to shoot you. A few shots with the shotgun and they are dead.

I then took the chance to rack up 2500 kills with the hummer.

And yes. That damn mini-chainsaw is the best weapon you can get in the regular game.

For the clown I kept him at a distance with the rifle. That way you triggered him to blow up a balloon, you shoot the balloon causing him to gag. Then fill him with a few rounds. Repeat till he's dead.
