DC Vault

For OGR-27 how exactly do you sign in for that project? I am somewhat lost on how to do it. I usually stick to boinc, however I want to try some of the non-boinc ones to help give us a good boost.

Also my main desktop is back up and running :). Love the smell of a newly formatted computer.

The way I see it, if we can get all projects to 9,000 that are below that, we'd be sitting at 392,000, which would currently be good for 9th easily. Even if we take off for the two missing projects, 372,000 would be good for 10th. Now, if we include the two Prime Sierpinski projects, Muon, Eon, and a few other projects that I don't think are moving much, that's at least another 25,000 hard points, putting us at 347,000 and 13th overall.

So I'm thinking that the goal of 15th is good for our general approach, but anything above that is going to take real work and more "D"!

Also factor in that we have the full 10,000 points for F@H, 9970 for WCG, 9921 for SETI, and a couple others that we are in the high 9000's. More "D" will always help, but where we're really hurting is how little time we've been at it.

And just think where we'd be in ABC if mfl0p's credit came over with him.

The 392,000 number came from:

9,000 x 43 = 387,000
+ 602 (Einstein)
+ 924 (Seti)
+ 1,000 (F@H)
+ 594 (Rosetta)
+ 970 (WCG)
+ 811 (Dimes)
= 391,901

-20,000 (Malaria & proteins)
= 372,000 (Rounding off, here and below)

- 5,000 (Eon, 9K-4000)
- 3,000 (Muon, 9K-6000)
- 5,500 (Prime Sierpinski - PRP, 9K-3500)
- 6,500 (Prime Sierpinski - Sieve, 9K-2500)
- 5,000 (17oB - Sieve, just a number I picked)
= 347,000

I may be low on the Prime Sierpinski projects, but with that few teams, these will be hard to get much on, I don't know how quick we can climb in Eon, and is Muon still running? Maybe our biggest help would be if Moun was taken off the Vault standings... So, if Anand is at 371,000, we'll need to get back the lost 25,000 points somewhere to top them - so assuming the 43 projects - the 13 above, that's 30 projects. 24,000 points/30 projects = 800 points per - so we'd need to get about 30 projects to 9800 to hit top 10, if we can't do anything about the bottom 7 above... Of course, if we could get 18,000 of that from Proteins & Malaria, the remain 7,000 would be much easier!

But I think the two biggest points here are:
1) Top 15 in the world for a dozen guys, a kick ass WCG team, and the #1 Folding team evah is damn [H]ard, and
2) Look at how much science can be done by a dozen [H]ard Commandos!

I just wanted to second that. :D

I don't know how quick we can climb in Eon

I just checked, and we should be up to the 28 (or 27?) spot in a month by overtaking all of the inactive teams above us. That would give us another 1000 vault points. Our team is third in current production in Eon right now, but lots of teams have a big head start.

So, how about April 1 to reach #15 in DC Vault? :p :p

As for now, I would write off Proteins@Home as a lost cause. There's no work and the admins can't even tell us if/when there will ever be any more work. On top of that, apparently points don't transfer when you change teams. So unless something changes, there's no way we can gain any points. We should really start a campaign at the vault to have it removed, its really not fair to new teams that have no chance to lose that goose egg.

I'm still keeping an eye on malariacontrol, the second I see the invite code requirement lifted, I'll be all over it. But for now, I don't have a lot of hope there either.

Keep in mind that its going to get pretty tough to gain spots and KEEP spots with only a dozen commandos. Im not saying that we cant do it (after all were [H]ard) but I dont know if any of us can accurately project an achievable goal. Instead of jumping 2K+ PPD now we are often times seeing about 800 PPD increases. I can only image this will continue to diminish as we move up the ranks.

And the path gets steeper. More "D" anyone?

That's true, which is why I'm not shooting for #1 or even #10 right away. But the "X Grubbers Kick Ass" team is basically two guys, and they are five spots above us in DC Vault. Maybe May 1 is a more realistic date, but I think we can get to #15 with the D we have now.

If we want to challenge the top teams, we'll have to get more people involved, but I think more of the [H]orde might be interested in some commando raids once the target is in range.

Heres a walk through:http://www.distributed.net/docs/tutor_stats.php
Let me know if you need any more help.

Bes ure to put in your user.txt file the team then your name.
Example of mine: "[H]Razor_FX_II"
Thats all that needs to be in the user.txt file.
Team stats: http://www.stephenbrooks.org/muon1/?optim=*&team=[H]&sortby=Mpts&user=*&oldness=0

Ya, that took me a little while to figure out but eventually I got it. It's an odd project though, no way to tell how much progress you have made when running it just as a background app without the screensaver.

phenom II 940 coming next week hopefully.. god i cant wait to go to quad core.. so ill have a 6400+ be-2350@3.05ghz and a phenom II 940 at an unknown overclock as of now, hoping for 3.6-3.7ghz

So does anyone know when the OGR-27 points will start showing up for everyone? Looking up the ranks ahead of us, we're 100 places up on BOINC Synergy, and Canada, Russia, and X Grubbers Kick Ass don't appear to be on the board yet. This should be a nice boost for us when it goes up.

The teams have showed up but the points haven't been added yet. It shouldn't take long to get the point figured out now, maybe next update.

Vault updated and we have 0 points for OGR-27, but we're still at #23. Once the OGR-27 teams and points get straightened out, we should have a better of idea of where we stand.

Brutal update. The Fleet somehow dropped 6 spots and lost 18k points. Stop this crazy train, I want to get off.

That's the weird thing. If they only removed one project (OGR-26) how can teams drop more than the points they had for that project? We lost 11K points but are still in the same spot! I think something else is happening, so I expect once they run the stats again (after they fill in the proper OGR-27 teams) the situation will be more clear.

I really wish the DC Vault had charts or at least some sort of point history. Does it exist somewhere else?

As much movement as there was on this update, along with the fact that the points are there in OGR-27 for some teams but not for others, I would be willing to bet the roller coaster ride isn't over yet. Hang on tight. :D

Not that I'm aware of. The Way-Back Machine has a bunch of old pages, but it is far from complete. Nomad8u had a great idea listing our points and position in his spreadsheet, but that's also incomplete as he started doing it right as his available free time dropped.

I'll start a thread for tracking our rank and point total. That way, if I miss an update, someone else will be able to post the numbers in the thread before the numbers are lost on the next update.

phenom II 940 is being installed in the next 5 minutes.... woot god im glad i waited this long to switch to quad core!

And if you look right now, the front page shows us with 67,131 pernt in the math category, but our team page shows (and adds up to) 69,456...

And here I was going to post this morning that we had just cleared 300K Vault Pernts

Congrats on your quad!
Justy added a Q9400 today myself. OC up to 3ghz looking to get to 3.75ghz+.:D

install failed.. stupid motherboard bios doesnt allow the phenom II 920 or 940 cpu's.. has a 95w limit.. even though i know this board can support well over 95w..

Ahh man that sucks. Any bios update fix for it?

i emailed biostar.. i know the damn board supports the 125w phenom II.. they make 2 versions of this board.. 1 with a heat pipe cooling on the pwm and one without.. they are the exact same motherboards.. so i went out and bought a heatsink for my pwms so i know it will support 125w cpu.. so im hoping biostar has another bios version that doesnt lock the board to 95w.. so hopefully they email me soon otherwise ill be buying a new motherboard..

Their math is screwed up right now. I knew we didn't lose 11K points in the last update, and sure enough, if you add up the four subtotals on our team page, they add up to 291,342 and change. However, at the top of the page it says we only have 288,998 points. (If you add in the 8800 points we lost from OGR-26 to our real total, it puts us over 300K.)

Well anyone looking to get an ATI card just for running milyway@home might want to reconsider. I cant get hardly any new work from their servers. Just an FYI who might be shopping for more "D" over the weekend. Might want to sit tight and see how this plays out first. :(

By day I'm a Microsoft SQL Server DBA, so tonight I wrote a little SSIS package that downloads the DC Vault stat files and writes the data to a database table. I'll see if I can schedule it to run every 12 hours, and after a few days there should be enough data to create some charts.

That sounds better than what I was planning. I have a little historical data pulled together from nomad8u's spreadsheet and the WayBack Machine if you're interested:

Wow, Muon1 is slow going. It took me about 2.5 days to get enough results to do an upload batch running it on 2 cores of my quad. That batch was worth 100,000 points and we need 12 million points to catch the next inactive team. I think I'm going to drop it and just go back to BOINC projects.

Talk about set and forget

yah baby it works.. phenom II 940 on a biostar tforce 780g am2+ (which doesnt officially support this cpu).. but i got it working.. hazzah!!!

Sweet! Good going. I got my Q9400 up to 3.5ghz so far with no problems at all except Vista media player errors because I switch my cpu.
Still haven't figured out a way that works to fix it.
Even though I don't use it, it's annoying to get an error as soon as Winblows starts.

Calculation of SIMAP updates is currently running.
The current workunits calculate the similarities and domains of approx. 300.000 new sequences from public databases imported in February 2009 and 20.680 new domain models from the PFAM database.
After these calculations are finished, next workunits are expected around April 1st.
