Darksiders 2!

Well Death gave me a 3 minute black screen when I changed the resolution and restarted. Don't feel bad.

Oh and where are the graphics options?

Fiddling about with the game I think it's best to wait til tomorrow if you wnat the dlc goodies (if you have any). the ds2 community site is having issues from all the people trying ot redeem codes and get the items and things.

For anyone who doesn't know you can get an in-game axe from liking the official darksiders fan page, you get two weapons from linking your steam and THQ account (if you already had your steam account linked prior to starting DS2, unlink it and when you get into game it will prompt you to link it) you then get an email for the two weapons, mace maximus and an axe.
You can see info about them here:
http://www.darksiders.com/promotions

Also there's supposed to be two rewards for anyone who played Darksiders 1, one reward for a gauntlet or something if you played it, and then a new scythe set if you beat it. It is meant to be done from achievements (so simply having a save wouldn't work) but those aren't working yet either at the moment it seems.

Also if you are on pc version you might be wondering where the heck you change the key bindings? It's not in the options menu like you would assume, rather it's in the moves list menu..... (push O to open the inventory/menus, then click on the far right icon that looks like a controller, after you click that you'll see more icons below it, click ont he far right one that looks like a scythe and you can now change the key bindings).

If your also have a problem getting the resolution to change, as it says to restart the game to change it but you do that and it just reverts back to 720, you must change the resolution, exit the game, then restart steam. This should get it to stick now.

I only played a short time tonight (I don't want to outlv the sitems, as many of the weapons and things are for like lv 5'ish) but so far it's a blas.t

Combat feels a lot more fluid/faster paced then Ds1 plus there's a ton of loot, just going throught he first tutorial area I found like 3 armor pieces, 5 weapons, etc.

Just going to hold off until tomorrow to really dig into it.

The options menu is complete shit, totally fucking inexcusable and why the hell do I have to start a game in order to change the damn options? Who thought that was a good idea!?

Because it saves settings per profile.

And again I ask: Who thought that was a good idea!? Actually, no, wait. Batman: AA, and AC both do that as well but you can load into a profile and change settings BEFORE starting a new game. So it still loops back to the original question.

You also have to set video settings outside of batman. Just minor annoyances.. nothing to get worked up about. I have seen much worse ports. And it has steamworks.. Therefore it is exempted from being bad mouthed.. right :p

I can get very annoyed when a preview promised us "standard graphics options" which you think would include more than resolution and gamma especially due to all the shit they got from the first game, but no we get the same two options in an even worse options menu. Awesome..... I just hope it doesn't have the jerky/jittery/stutter problem the first one had. I'm going to wait for the DLC stuff to be working before playing. Also it's 5am and I'm well beyond tired so easily annoyed by things.

Edit: Oh yeah and that fully editable config file it's supposed to have? Nowhere to be found.

Played for ~20 mins this morning, feels great so far (I'm using a 360 pad).

I concur with the whinging above regarding the graphical options..took me three tries for the resolution change to 'take', but at least it worked.

Just played it for 30 min and my GTX 470 hit 104c. It is overclocked but no other game I've played on those settings ever got that hot. wtf Reverting to stock for now and updating drivers... What I played was metal as fuck though. \m/

Played an hour so far and its awesome, i recommend using the 360 controller..
dont know if a patch will be out but im struggling to get good fps im used to on my gtx680 though.

I didn't have a chance to play at all, but I (too) got the dreaded lock-up when trying to enable vsync and change the resolution. Hopefully I can get it working tonight.

I won't be able to get into this myself until later today but by any chance are there any stray items suddenly on the Darksiders 2 Steam store page?

It's like Sleeping Dogs has the free high rez texture pack sitting there right now, as an example. I know these devs swore and even showed screens of the UI, graphics options, etc.

One thing I did notice in the actual game directory was a DLC folder with 14 separate entries in it. No sir, don't like it.

Nothing new. Don't have to buy any of those DLCs if you don't want.

Not a huge fan of paying full price for games but I bit on this one and am definitely happy. Regarding the DLC, if you went through shopthq.com, then you get the first 3 DLC for free (the season pass I think it's called?) Anyways, it's a really good game and some of the reviews don't even do it justice IMO.... Great soundtrack too!!!

Jesper Kyd kicked ASS on the soundtrack. Buy the whole thing on two discs at Amazon. It's worth it.

$50 flat from THQ gave me the Steam keys, the DLC, and the Season Pass. It was well worth it for me on Saints Row 3 and I suspect will be here as well. No regrets.

I have to say the first thing that really "struck" me about the game was the soundtrack. The part where you go up the first elevator to the crowfather and the music kicked in, that was amazing.

This is really becoming one of my favorite game soundtracks, Jesper knocked it out of the park and made a memorable one here.

BTW has anyone had luck getting their mace maximus/axe codes to work? (the ones you get for linking your account). I got the email about redeeming the key, followed the link, got a blank page and it told me the keys would be sent when available but nothing still.

Push esc and click options to get the basic options.

However if you want to change key bindings you have to go into the moves list menu which doesnt' make much sense.

Push O to open the oracle, click on the far right icon in the top right that looks like a controller. Then under that you should see new icons, click on the far right one there that looks like a scythe to see the key bindings and change what you want.

Hopefully the rest of that stuff comes through soon.

so most of you are enjoying this?... this or sleeping dogs... hmmmm

I was able to get both Sleeping dogs and DS2 thanks to some sweet deals I found on them. Got sleeping dogs for 30 bucks and DS2 for 37 both from greenmangaming, so roughly both games for around the price of a single new console game (59 + tax).

They had problems with the sleeping dogs keys though and didn't get them sent until like 30 minutes ago, but still worth saving the money imo.

Ds2 is a blast, if you liked Ds1 you'll like it, they just need to get the ini file on pc fixed up (There's a folder that is labeled config but nothing in it, so it's most likely a bug/problem).

I played DS2 this morning but only the opening act. I loved this first, and this one seems even better.

What is up with these mediocre blurry 2008 textures?

Why does death look like crap on the inventory screen? This is an awful port.

I feel like there things promised in terms of user features and options that simply aren't there. Are they going to patch them in?

I hope they get that .ini through real soon.

In game, did you hit escape, and hit the options and at least make sure your resolution was set where you wanted it?

The actual game seems like it is a fair bit better than the original. Despite how much I thought the original was a plagiarising piece of shit, I might give this one a go.

rofl i know right.. maybe its cause i played DS1 a year or so ago out of curiousness and maybe it was just aged by then but fuck it was lame

Despite them lying about the port it is still a damn fun game, which makes it such a pity that they're completely ignoring any posts about their promises.

Just got an answer from THQSlegehammer on a stream: No config file and what we see is what we get. They wanted to do a config file but they said they weren't able to.

Absurd. How about giving us some friggin' menu options?

I can go back to links that I posted earlier in this thread including this playthrough the devs did with the PC version and some of the things they said.

I feel duped. This is the same barebones job they did on part 1.

Who do we blame for this? THQ? Vigil? Both?

THQ put out Saints Row 3 and the PC version of that was beautifully done so what goes on here?

Yeah I know what you mean. I don't think I'll ever pre-order another THQ title. I'll wait and see if they keep their promises in the future.

I preordered Saints Row 3 from THQ and that was a great experience.

This isn't. So it makes me wonder whose fault it really is here.

I'll have to fire up ye old faithful Skyrim FXAA Injector with this game tomorrow and see what happens for laughs.

The game itself is excellent. I don't want people to get the wrong idea from what I'm writing here.

Whenever I go to the pause menu to change anything, the game just flat out locks up.
Plus, it has that same weird choppy camera from the first one. It was butter on my 5870, but I can't get it to run well on Nvidia hardware to save my life.
Wish I hadn't gotten it...stupid DLC items you have to pre-order to get :(

I had that choppy/stutter issue in the first one but not here. It probably doesn't matter but have you tried forcing Vsync from the NCP? The in-game option is busted.

I preordered it months ago and I still don't have a computer to play it on :( Well I could play it on my work PC (after hours of course), but I don't really want to do that, lol.
