Dark Souls Thread

I think I f'd up. I got one of those fire souls that increases your estus flask, and I just used it (assuming this was how you are supposed to use it), but when I came back up from blighttown through the valley of drakes, I saw the caged woman and you could give it to her. Did I do bad?

I also rescued that guy from the cage in undead parish, and he gave me some seemingly worthless pendant. Is that of any use?

well just finished first play through probably gonna start second play through and start invading others soon :D

Yeah I'm trying to find a good PvP build. Spears seem to be you friend or if you are pro then go for massive backstabs with a dagger.

Yeah you need to give it to the fire keeper to reinforce the estus flask so you wasted it.

Aw, was hoping this game would be longer. NG+ should be a doozy though. I'd be further in if I wasn't playing three characters lol.

Don't worry Anor Londo will probably kick your ass for a while.

Assuming you didn't do the Londo Ruins, Great Hollow, Demon Ruins, there is a lot of stuff left to do after Sen's. I blew through Sen's up to Anor Londo is about 12 hrs.

one of the best pvp weapon for sl 100 +- is dragon hunting spear
make +10 spear and combine it with soul of Ornstein
you can enchant it to +5 fairly easy using nest trading shit

Why the hell did they allow me to use it then? Ugh, this game is total bullshit some times. Difficulty =/= obtuse game design. Given that there is no manual, and the text of the item says to use it, how the hell was I supposed to know that?

Well you do get 5 humanity for it. I think you can always use that to reinforce your bonfires for more estus flasks instead of more powerful estus flasks. I'm unsure if that works by the Humanity number in the upper left or the dropped items Humanity. But yeah this game is cryptic. I don't do anything with items until I check the wiki just due to that shit. I learned my lesson from consuming some boss souls in Demon's Souls.

Hmm maybe I should fire up my character that has that spear, sucks that you need to boost faith for it though since it's lightning component is all faith.

fuck, being cursed is a HUGE PITA.

Half health and in the lower depths.

Now I have to farm 3k souls to get a stone :(.

I'm still waiting for my copy to be shipped to me. I just have one question about the game if you guys don't mind.

Is it as awesome to just put your shield up and crawl into the darkness as it was in Demon's Souls?

Everything about DS to me was the unknown. Fantastic experience.

Currently I'm finishing up Uncharted 2 and the God of War PSP remakes. I'll be jumping into Dark Souls, ICO, and SOTC soon enough.

I have to say, you have good taste in games in this post.

What happens when an invader kills you? I know they steal half your souls but can you still retrieve your corpse and regain your humanity? I've been invaded a few times so far but haven't lost yet so I'm walking around with 11 humanity. Wondering if I should just run around reinforcing bonfires or keep holding onto them.

lost 17 humanity last night in blightstown, didn't even die to an enemy, I fell off this fucked up ledge that apparently can't be jumped onto even though it appears you can, went back for my bloodstain and firebreathing dog wasted me, Go go 619 HP

If you reinforce bonfires, youg et extra flasks, that helps you beat the game

i'd go for the flasks!

I figured thrusting weapons like spears and sorcery/pyromancy would be useless in PvP with everyone running around with Ring of Fog that prevents you from using the lock-on system. Seems like weapons with a wide swing arc would be your only way of actually landing a hit.

Lightning greatswords are murdering right now. Sorcery is pretty weak even if you could lock on due to ridiculously long casts (in comparison to a melee attack).

I 'm on my last nerve withi this fucking depth area.

I've been cursed FOUR FUCKING TIMES, everytime I try to make it to the end part of it I end up getting near those frog bullshti things and they group up to 5 around me and I always get cursed as SOON as one spews that shit.

I sthere a good way to stop this? A good curse resist item i can get? (lv 22).

I'm just at my wits end, I've had to grind grind grind 3k souls EVERY TIME and it's getting really annoying to go down there, get cursed, have to regrind to get the purging stone only to have it happen when It ry that area again. So fucking frustrating.

wHat's funny? The first time I did the depth area, I cleared those things out with 0 problems, but now it's like my character is so damn open to curses as soon as he sees one he's cursed and instantly fucking dies.

Wow have to say that I am just loving this game. Some of the mobs are incredibly difficult to beat but then again you can do tricks to kill them easier. You really have to pay attention to your environment and things that have happened in the past to truly beat them. Just finished off MechaBoar in the Undead Parish and now trying to work on the Black Knight at the top of the tower. For some reason though I just cant seem to kill him no matter what I do.

I am definitely going to have to make a Dex specific character as from what I can tell Spear dmg is based almost specifically off dex/str (with more an increase with dex). Loving the Drake blade and only took like 20 or so standard arrows.

You can use firebombs to one shot them if you're really having trouble. For the most part though, you can isolate them and take them out one by one. Keep your shield up as it can slow the rate at which the curse builds up but the best way is to just run towards them, bait out the curse attack, and then circle around and kill them.

If you're talking about the one area with 6-7 of them, stay at the top of the stairs and look over the rectangular opening to set off one or two and wait for them to come up the stairs after you. For the cluster of three at the bottom of the stairs just throw a firebomb on them or use your bow/xbow to pull.

The guy in the bell tower in the gargoyle area sells a curse resist ring but it's 15000 souls but it's not needed.

.

I was cheap, led him all the way back to the dragon :)

so i killed the gargoyle.... undead parish is done. where is best to go next? ghosts downstairs seem a bit too difficult right now. swamp area? ventured in a bit. doesn't seem to bad. black knight scared the hell out of me and i ran out.

also.... easiest way to do away with enemy near blacksmith that fires lightning? tried attacking him from behind and he starts that swing attack. just decided to run around him for now.

Backtrack to the stairwell you came down where you first encounter Solaire and the Hellkite dragon on the bridge. Use the basement key to open the door right across from the stairs.

Lightning shooting guy isn't too bad with ranged attacks, hes pretty easy to kill if you have soul arrow.

Melee, just learn his pattern and keep up with him.

^ Are you talking about ornstein? He was my favorite boss to play so far, but was also the hardest. You kill smough then face him on steroids. Lost to him probably 15 times and when I finally beat him I was so juiced. I bough this armor and it looks sooo sick. Not as good as my Havel armor but I bought it anyway, haha.

If you are talking about the titanite demon with the ring on it's head they are easy to kill with a shield and a little extra endurance, just takes awhile.

For anyone finding the drake sword isn't up to par any more, get your stats upgraded for the dark knight sword, it's boss. I hated it at first because it felt so slow, but I find it easier to take a couple slow swings with massive damage than to use the smaller sword and have to take more swings for less. People keep saying get lightning weapons, but they don't scale with stats. I might check out the dragon spear though, but not sure of the requirements.

well it goes up to sl 299 and past sl 125 you need 100k + per level
for sl299 from 298 you need 840k souls

Shit I thought it went to 145?

Still haven't broken 60 yet, finished up Anor Londo today, have done most of the covenants too. I guess I better start working on those final boss souls so I can get access to the final boss.

Game needs to be patched, people can level so easily in this game. Lol.

Yeah I'm hoping From Software punishes the players (either rollbacks or character deletion) using the various exploits to get a billion souls early on, but it's not likely :(

Just got to blight town, and after reading the amount of venom being spewed about this place on every forum I visit, I may just shelve this game. I just can't get into it enough to want to put up with the frustration. Demons souls masterfully walked that fine line between reward and difficulty, but I'm just not getting it this time around. It feels more like a job than entertainment at this point. Maybe it's just that I've become a more casual gamer, and in the few hours i have to game between work, my family, and all the other shit I have to take care of, I just want to have fun. We'll see, I'm going to make a few attempts at getting through here, if it's as shitty as everyone says, I think I'll move onto something else.

Blighttown is about the same as the Valley of Defilement in Demon's Souls. Probably a bit easier, too.

The reason people hate it is because the framerate goes to hell for some reason, especially at the top where you start out. It gets much better once you're halfway down and when you reach the swamp.

Also the swamp is nowhere near the pain in the ass that it was in DS.

Agreed. Valley was so much worse.

What you need to do is access the fire outside the locked door in the garden area and farm the trees down there in that area nearby that has 3-4 of them. Farm up the white and purple flowers and the purple flowers and youll be fine down there. Just take it really slow so you don't over aggro and you don't run off the edges. Also bring a bow to kill the annoying mosquitos.

The REALLY annoying part is New Londo Ruins. That's such a PITA if you don't know where you are going, after about 15 suicide runs I can do that entire place without getting into combat. Be even easier in NG+ since I wont have to talk to the guy on the roof (assuming the keys save).
