Dark Souls 2 PC - April 25, 2014

I enjoyed the Alonne fight. I actually wish they made it easier to get to him just so I could have more fun with it. Having to make the death run through that whole memory was just another way of adding tedium and punishing you for getting bored/careless. Ditto with Smelter.

Alonne was fun but too easy...only move you had to avoid was the impale one...everything else could be blocked with a good shield...I loved the room the fight took place in though...very cool lighting/reflections

When is this dang thing going to come on sale??

I'm on my third playthrough now. I made my STR/Faith/Int build and it's not the easiest thing in the world but it's really fun. I never got to mess with hex stuff and am giving that a whirl now.

I also discovered how fun the Estoc is scaled with STR! I infuse the thing with dark weapon then buff it and it does excellent damage for how quick it is.

Crown of the Ivory King, the third and final downloadable add-on coming to Dark Souls 2, will send players to a frozen, desolate land where blinding snowstorms and ice-covered monsters will deliver what may the game's most difficult challenge yet...after players complete Crown of the Ivory King and secure the third crown, they can visit the game's King Vendrick for a surprise that Tanimura was keen not to spoil...

After the last DLC, I'm almost afraid of how hard this one might be. The idea of having followers is kind of neat, though. That seems motivation enough to explore thoroughly.
I'm rockin' a full +5 Havel set (including the Dragon's Tooth) so I guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be.

I had to put DS2 down for a while, I'm at 8 hours trying to beat the Fume Knight (100% melee).. I have gotten close but I can't seem to roll or dodge his Dark Sword Stab motion - all the other attacks I am good on.. its that one and he usually does it two times in my fight..

so frustrating.. - welcome to dark souls

Do you have any Human Effigies? After a few hours, you might be better off summoning help. It's still a hard fight (he takes less damage) but it'll at least help you to move forward. I know after I die 5-6 times in a row I start getting mad/sloppy and that compounds the problem. The computer AI summon could be enough since they can take boatloads of damage.

Dark Souls 2: Crown of the Ivory King DLC is delayed

Dark Souls 2: Crown of the Ivory King, the third DLC chapter for the Dark Souls sequel, is being delayed on all formats, Bandai Namco confirmed today...the DLC release, originally scheduled to launch on Sept. 24, will now see a release on Sept. 30 for Steam and Xbox Live...the DLC will launch for PlayStation Network on Oct. 1...publisher Bandai Namco offered no explanation for the delay

So I just finished the DLC Sunken King.

I had fun with the areas, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the aspects of more puzzles.

BUT DAMN, what terrible boss fights in my opinion.

Spoilers if you haven't played:

The boss that's Nashandra 2.0...again, just totally lame rehash of Nashandra. Even the "twist" that they put on her was yet ANOTHER recycled boss.

The Dragon? Just reminded me of Kalameet

And the boss with the 3 guys? Also totally lame and I didn't really have fun running around for 20 minutes waiting for an opportunity to hit someone and then run around again...

The thing I loved about Dark Souls was all of the bosses were doable by yourself. I had a bitch of a time with O and S but I managed to do it by myself. This new DLC content really forces you to use summons unless you want to grind out the boss for literally a half an hour.

Very very disappointing bosses. Solid B/B+ on level design but a D on boss design...

At least 2 of the bosses in the 2nd DLC are entirely new and will be more appealing. At the same time, they're also freakishly hard.

I finally today - after 10 hours of trying got the Fume Night -

I had summoned lots of people but today I got a couple of good players.. We ended up losing the Faith build but me and the other guy (strong melee) ended up getting him :)

it was kindof climactic - nothing like the S&O battle (winning that made me feel pretty good)..

this one just felt more like work (more like the battle with the King out of Dark Souls)

not sure I like the idea of followers...I hope the bosses in the final DLC won't require them as I much prefer beating them solo...or maybe it'll be like Vendrick where you need to obtain a certain number of Souls of a Giant to make the fight easier...or even like the Fume Knight fight where you need to destroy the Ashen Idol's

holy surprises Batman!...the Crown of the Ivory King DLC is available to play now!...yippee!

I think the reason they unlocked it early is because the servers will be down for 5.5 hours tomorrow (7:30 AM- 1:00 PM EST) and they wanted to give players an early gift to make up for it

I'm loving the snowy setting of Ivory King...reminds me of the Hidetaka Miyazaki version of Dark Souls 1...first boss was also a lot of fun (Aava)

looks like Ivory King only unlocked early for Season Pass holders

The new level looks wonderful, although the haze and glare effect screw with my eyes a little bit.
I'll hopefully get a little more time to play this weekend. Looking forward to seeing this thing through!

Damn, I'm still working on the first DLC.

Sorry if this has been answered already, I haven't been keeping up with this thread the last few weeks. Is there a way to play this game above 60fps? New monitor really has me wanting to try 144fps out.

I don't know if this has been patched yet, but item durability is somehow tied to FPS. Higher FPS means items break faster. Also your invulnerability frames are tied to the FPS, so screwing with your FPS could screw you over.

Finished the Ivory King last night. Definitely my favorite of the 3. They got the sound of snow crunching when you walk on it perfect. Fun bosses a few tricks a few secrets pretty good new items...couldn't really ask for much more.

agreed...it's not so much that the bosses are the best but moreso the entire experience of Ivory King...the setting is gorgeous, the lore is deeper, the graphics look stunning, lots of shortcuts etc...the best part for me was that the standard enemies were a major improvement over the entirety of Dark Souls 2 and even better then the bosses in the DLC...a variation on those annoying pinwheel enemies from DS1 made a return and everything just felt more alive

the snow and ice looked gorgeous...not just the crunching sound but the way that it covered your entire body if you rolled around in it...it's the small touches that really came through...the Followers worried me when they were announced but they were implemented well and not really 'followers' but more a way of making the boss easier (same as Fume Knight)

Jesus. Fought the extra boss after da boss...that is just fucked up.

Awesome Pony level.

Lud and Zallen are really giving me issues...taking them on solo is a pain in the ass...Lud is easy by himself but once he gets to half or so health and Zallen joins him the fight becomes brutal...I can usually get Lud down to about 1 more kill shot but then they usually find a way to double team me

Praise the Sun I finally beat Lud and Zallen, The King's Pets solo...took everything I had...for the first time in the game I used Brightbug which helped a lot in finishing off Lud...played it safe with Zallen and didn't take any foolish risks...these guys felt a bit like Darklurker

ran through the Ivory King DLC with another one of my characters...Lud and Zallen get my vote as toughest boss of any of the DLC's and maybe toughest boss of the entire Dark Souls 2 game...if not #1 hardest then definitely #2 behind only Darklurker...beating them solo as a melee player (no summons) is a crazy hard challenge...not to mention the trek through the Frigid Outskirts just to get to them

had to make sure not to use any Estus during the trek through the Frigid Outskirts...only used the pyromancy healing spell...needed all my Estus, Brightbug, high damage plus resistance rings and Old Radiant Lifegems just to beat them

There is a trick to Frigid Outskirts. It will take more than one attempt, but once you figure out which way to go, just green blossom/sprint to the boss area avoiding the horsies. That was the only disappointing area in the DLC. It was so atmospheric and a great concept, but the endless waves of horsies kills it. Two or three would have been fine.

Otherwise, solid DLC with not so solid itemization. Some very good items and rings mixed with some completely useless stuff. Level design and art was good. Enemies were good. Boss recycle +clone was a bit meh. Aava and the Ivory King were both good, if a bit easy. Good music. Good concepts. I'll run through it again to make sure I didn't miss anything.

The ending in the king's memory was... underwhelming. It makes me wonder if there is a fourth DLC coming.

agreed that the ending with Vendrick was a letdown...was expecting something more epic...his 'gift' was pretty good and useful but definitely not as epic as I was anticipating based on the developer's comments before the DLC was released

as far as sprinting to the fog gate in Frigid Outskirts...it's hard because it's a long trek and the horsies randomly generate so if you go too fast they double and triple team you...my main weapon is a Greatsword +10 so I made a duplicate +10 one just for the Outskirts so that way when I reach the boss it won't be worn down...I need full battle mode before taking those guys on unlike all other bosses which you can deal with at less then full strength

Horses spawn faster as you kill them and the longer it takes you to get to where you're going. Don't stop to kill any.

I don't know, I felt this was the weakest DLC by far. The bosses weren't interesting at all and the pacing was all over the place.

I'm having a hell of time with the horses area...although I did have one of the funniest/coolest experiences there.
I got invaded by someone called the "Blizzard Spirit" and I assume he was cheating or something. He was seemingly invincible and casting some random spell that was instakilling the horses. He escorted me to the end of the level and then killed himself...netting me an additional 150K souls. What a good Samaritan :D
I still haven't beaten those damn cats, though. It almost seems like solo might be the way to go as they take so little damage with summoned helpers.

It makes me wonder if there is a fourth DLC coming.

I hope so...this can't be the end

the more I play DS2 the more I'm enjoying the pvp...I was enjoying the more balanced nature of pvp in DS2 but hated the grind of dueling and collecting red/blue orbs for invasions...I much preferred it in DS1 where you got unlimited Red Eye orbs from a certain NPC...but now that I joined the Dragon covenant I'm enjoying it again as there's no more grinding...just join the covenant and jump into unlimited pvp fights

I still can't beat those damned cats. Running through the blizzard and getting killed by a second cat is getting old quickly.

Felt the same way. I found it easier to solo it. Build as much damage as you can and try to kill the first cat before the second jumps down. Only way I was able to do it.

I guess I play it differently...I always like to solo and then as a last resort use summoning help...summoning for the most part ruins any sort of challenge and makes it Easy Souls...only time I ever summoned was DS1 with Ornstein and Smough...but then I learned to beat them solo

I completed everything in Dark Souls 1 solo, mainly because I didn't understand how summons worked and even when I did...it seemed like most other players were long gone by the time I picked it up.

I still can't beat those damned cats. I never get hit by the first one, but the 2nd one screws the dynamic up and I can barely ever get any hits once he shows up. I watched some videos and clearly NG+ is part of the problem. In your first pass they take a lot more damage and you can waste the first one pretty quickly after the second arrives. Unfortunately I'm not doing nearly enough damage to do that. I have a strength of 60 and 3 different maxed out STR weapons I've enchanted with fire or magic. I'm still stuck with 30% of the 1st one's life after getting some free hits when the 2nd one arrives. I assume I'll eventually get it, but it'll likely be one of those instances where the 2nd enemy screws up or never does one of their better attacks.

Could it be a resistance thing? I haven't even played DS2, but in DS1 it's handy to have a regular physical damage weapon for some guys.

I've tried everything I can think of. No enchantments and each one individually. Magic and Fire seem to be slightly better than no enchantment at all. I've also tried the lightning bug, which makes a difference, but that effect seems to fade out after a minute or two. I have a maxed Claymore as well as a maxed out Large Club, Great Club, and Dragon's Tooth. The Claymore seems to do nearly the same damage (and is quicker), but the straight stab after a roll misses a lot while the rotation on the clubs don't.
Each hit I do probably does 8-12% damage and the 2nd cat shows up when the first one has about 40% damage. If I can ever get rid of the first one, I doubt I'll have any issues...but I just can't get that far.

I used the sinners sword that damages you when you attack. On top of that I added lightning to the weapon, and used one of those attack increase items. Went balls out on the first pussy and had it 90% dead before the second one jumped down. Then finished it off before the second even got the first attack off.

It wasn't exactly easy, fun or rewarding....I'd say skip it.

I was having trouble with them as well but finally found a formula that worked...

Brightbug is extremely useful...but don't use it until Lud is around 50% health...then use Brightbug and unload on him...along with a maxed out weapon (in my case Greatsword +10)...something people forget about is rings...make sure to equip the correct rings...for the 2 cats I used all of my physical/stamina rings which helped a lot...by the time cat #2 showed up the first one was on his last hit or 2...once Zallen is by himself the fight becomes easier but don't take it for granted as I died a few times to the 2nd cat by himself...the thing that always seemed to get me was his leaping bite/chomp move

Whew - finally did it. Like I figured, once one was down, the other was a breeze. In fact, my Dragon's Tooth broke mid-fight (the first time I ever killed the first cat) and I had to switch off to my bow to kill the 2nd one. I think I only actually got hit 1-2 times and (like I figured) there was a bit of luck with the 2nd cat doing random melee attacks when it was nowhere near me. That gave me the opportunity to hit the first one 4-5 times for free.
The "real" boss of the DLC was a cakewalk after that massacre, although he does do pretty crazy damage. With all of the summons for him (I must have seen 15 of them on the ground), there should be more elsewhere.

now that the DLC trilogy is complete I feel like doing a complete run through of the entire game...not sure if I'll do it with NG+ or create a new character
