Dark Souls 2 PC - April 25, 2014

someone else translated the original from page, said that the damage nerf was actually poise damage. those spells have already been for shit anyway, limiting them to PvE, they don't need to be made more useless.

Uhhh, Crystal soul spear does some serious damage in PvP, I have finished people off with that spell dozens of times. If I'm using the right setup, it casts SO quick that they can't really do much if they're coming out of a roll or trying to heal.

I don't really use any of those spells, but when I've summoned help - those lightning spells seem to do insane amounts of damage to bosses. While they might not be great for PvP, they're almost like easy mode when playing the normal game. I can understand nerfing them just to keep the game challenging.

I'm looking forward to the 2nd DLC hitting tonight/tomorrow. I haven't looked yet, but I have a feeling the new area will probably be in the Iron Throne area...unless they're going for a major red herring.

EDIT: I found it. Just like with the previous DLC, it's right after the boss area.

Looking forward to playing when I get home. There were 2 messages in the new area that claimed to be "from a far away land" or something like that. I'm curious to find out what they say.

Wow.. tough DLC - I've tried the ladder several times :)

I even Jolly Cooperated and we couldn't get passed the latter.. missing something :)

love this game

The latter? So vague!

I will probably jump on tonight after I finally finish up Red Dead Redemption (ya, I know I'm pretty late).

sorry I fixed it, spelling mistake I meant the Ladder..

you'll know when you get to it

Those 2 spots are referring to summon signs.
They sectioned off those 2 rooms for summoning and getting summoned. You'll notice you can only put down a sign in those 2 rooms, before the main entrance.
It's not a hidden boss or anyt...
Actually there is definitely something there. Put a sign down. You will be sent to one of 2 spots somewhere(not sure where exactly, but there is a boss fight at the end of one, not sure about the other)

As much as I liked the first one, I'm enjoying this second DLC more than the first. It's quite a bit brighter, no annoying poison enemies, but still lots of traps and enemies that will take you out before your double estus chug has a chance to heal you.

Six deaths up until second bonfire (which includes summoned phantom deaths) and five in the drop afterwards. Time to put this game down for the night though!

The ladder... got it. That's exactly where I left off :) I'm guessing the trick has to do with the guys above the ladder.

I got in about 30 minutes. It's a beautiful setting and gameplay-wise, it's more up my alley than the puzzles and multiple steps from the first DLC. I made it to the 2nd bonfire just before I went to bed. So far, so good.

yes I did. That is where my journey ended last night. Died 4 times then ran out of time.

I just started the DLC...I'm loving the area/level design and enemies...is it me or is there a long trek between bonfires?...or did I miss a hidden bonfire someplace...I'm still early in the level but it seems like a long time and I haven't lit any bonfires except for the 1st one

Second one isn't *that* far. At least not any longer than the distance in the first DLC between the first and second bonfire. Not sure if there is a hidden bonfire later on, but there's no way you can miss the second one.

I noticed I did miss a bonfire...going through the tower I took a left instead of a right and I missed the 2nd bonfire...a lot of twisty paths inside Brume

Hmm, maybe I missed one too? My second bonfire is in a small room and as you walk out there is a red phantom facing the other way. Is that the second or third?

the 2nd bonfire for me had no red phantom nearby...it was a small room leading to a locked area closeby to that room with the trap door that had like 5-6 enemies in it

I haven't had a chance to play any more, but there was no red phantom near the 2nd fire for me either.

What about your third bonfire? Maybe I really did miss the second bonfire...

My third bonfire was near a drop that lead to narrow hallways of those fire breathing statues.

RedPhantom Spoiler
He is across the Chain at the 3rd Bonfire.. you can go two directions, down to the third bonfire, or out the door and across the chain.

This is just after you take out the 3rd Ashen mist Guy, there are the Lightning Ball t hrowing enemies near the snowy out croppings.

You go down the latter and you can go through a fog gate to the third bonfire or go down the stairs out onto a ledge (chest around the corner) and a Chain going across the gap to another tower leading down

so....was that it? I am not sure I did everything. I got the crown and 3 weapon making souls...all of which kind of suck.

Found there is a second red phantom (just met him at lunch :) )
After thirdbonfire, passed the flaming bulls heads you will eventually cross a chain that has some Oil Urns and Enemey's that crawl on their hands (no legs).

At the bottom of the long ladder is another red phantom

Mr. Blue demon is a shithead after that long trek. Jesus :)

I had to go in with full Havel's armor on + Havel's Greatshield to beat him 1 one 1...I never wear full armor in any of the Souls games but this guy was tough...there's no 100% magic defense shield so he's going to do damage no matter what...unlike version 1 of this boss where you can block all his fire damage with the Gyrm shield this magic version is brutal

Actually a Havel's and Dark Rebel Shield can get 100% magic block if you Infuse them. Havel's is the better choice since it only loses a little bit of physical block. That and a Spell Quartz Ring +3 and you won't take much damage from Smelter 2.0.

I tried it with the 2 npc summons on NG+4; truckloads of damage output from that guy, plus he is fast. Failed 3 times. Though, I was using my super magic infused mace, not knowing he would be blue. Time to swap to large club.

forgot about infusing...I was able to get by him with a regular Havel's Greatshield +5 though but infusing probably would have made it easier

going through that gauntlet of enemies before the fog gate is more annoying then the boss...you can't even run past them like with the Cave of the Dead challenge area from the previous DLC...I pretty much came in like a tank with full Havel armor plus Greatsword +10, Spell Quartz Ring +3, Baneful Bird Ring and took him down 1v1

I can't summon my friend anymore since yesterday. I see the sign but it fails every time (Summoning cancelled... sign has disappeared). We played 3 playthroughs and the first DLC together without problems. I can summon anyone else though ><

That's really weird, can he get summoned by others?

GUYS: Serious Problem.

I think I'm going to start a new build for the DLC (I have yet to play either) So far my builds have been 1 pure dex, 1 int build and 1 dex/faith build.

So, what's next? Strength. But regular old strength seems boring to me, what else can I try for coupled with a strength build?

Is Hex/Strength a viable option? That interests me a lot.

Super easy to make a STR/Pyro build, if you are starting over.
Going Dark means having to max out both, INT and FAI. So you gotta max out STR/INT/FAI for a STR/Dark build. A lot more time consuming if going that route, but totally viable if not starting completely over.

STR/Pyro is my main character build...I don't think it's boring at all...magic in DS is boring to me...all that ranged BS is no fun...I like getting up close and personal...only problem I ran into was Darklurker who was a major PITA with a pure STR + pyromancy build...I actually only started Pyro because of Darklurker

I have yet to ever use Strength weapons in Dark Souls, I'll probably end up focusing on strength at first and then dumping points into int and faith. There are some miracles/sorceries that I really like and hopefully can use a few of them with the dark magic build.

You'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge but hex/pyro...? I've used some pyromancies on playthroughs but have not used any hex except dark magic weapon. Hex stuff is split with staff casting and chime casting.

With STR/FAITH/INT I will be able to use chimes/staffs/pyro and cherry pick what I like (I think) :)

Got a little further at lunch today, lots of red phantoms :)

so far I'm really liking this level/layout.
Have a question
have a hard time at the lever part , is it possible to get passed the enemies coming out of the cells and into the room with the fire shooting lizard statue before the gate closes?

Yes...if you want to climb onto the higher ledges and collect the loot you need to go through the gate...just sprint as soon as the lever releases...don't worry about the enemies coming out of the gates as they'll get caught behind the closing gate...there's another gate inside there as well so be prepared to repeat the process again

Strength builds are pretty much easy mode. Just get a giant club that can Pancake and regular enemies are nothing. Then bosses once you learn their move set you can dodge/block till you can swing. Use a great bow for Range and you are set.
