whoami said:Nvidia's SLI technology has only been out for like a year to the consumer's grasp. So wtf is this 5 year shit you speak of?
As of now, Nvidia has been releasing new driver updates with even more support. Crossfire had some advantages that people liked over SLI, but nvidia responded to that by releasing and going to release more driver updates that counter crossfire's suppose advantages.
Crossfire worth wait? Nah.
SLI worth the purchase? If u got money, yeah.
Single cards still the best buy IMHO.
Tigerblade said:Please do research on the origins of NV's SLi tech. I think you'll find out that they 'stole' 3DFX's work when they bought them out....but back in the V2 days I'd say 3DFX drivers where better as ALL games worked.....so yeah, at least 5 years probably more like 7-8 years really, so go and find this 'shit' out for yourself.....
Concerning NV's SLi drivers, are people still complaining about the same things not getting fixed on release after release after beta release? To me, that isn't a 'mature' driver....
I agree tho, if you've got the cash go for it, but spouting utter shit about SLi being more powerful than Crossfire? Please....
I posted 3 months ago NVIDIA was about to drop a bomb and nobody believed me then either.Rash said:Who did you hear this from?, id love to know!!
Seein as how theres no crossfire available,i would say Yes SLI is king shit right now, unless you care to prove otherwise....Tigerblade said:And you know SLi has better performance because you obviously have a Crossfire rig set up and have run benchmark comparisons? Shit man, share the numbers with us cos we are all dying to see the results!!!!
So it's taken Nvidia's SLi over 5 years to mature their drivers from it's original source in Voodoo 2? I bet any amount of money that ATi will have mature drivers alot sooner than it's taken NV, shit would SLi driver's be even classed as mature yet? I wonder where NV SLi tech would be right now if they hadn't bought 3DFX?

A. Come from ATI
B. Concern 3dmark
I'd take any news about it with a grain of salt, until Steve manages to get his hands on it.

.....But where did you hear this?CMAN said:I posted 3 months ago NVIDIA was about to drop a bomb and nobody believed me then either.
PhoenixC5 said:you should prolly check your info there man. nvidia SLi and the original 3dfx sli are nothing alike. they did not "steal" anything. hell, even if they used the same tech (which they didnt, they bought it...they didnt steal it).
nVidia SLi:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Link_Interface
3Dfx:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3dfx
You can read about the two. They are not the same tech or related in any way.

"Nvidia Drivers Are Not Mature"tornadotsunamilife said:And here's me thinking you used the word loosely and in quotation marks for want of a better word...
Tigerblade said:Obviously they aren't identical as the way the card's connect are totally different and the way they run games, e.g game profiles. But do you really think that NV have used nothing from 3DFX's tech? Or are you just saying NV bought 3DFX out just so they could use the term SLi?![]()
My point is without 3DFX tech and R&D NV wouldn't have the part thay have today...my second point is that ATi will have driver's on par at least (I'd say) with SLi alot faster than NV has even without assimilating another companies tech.....
Coming from two generations of ATI drivers and now a 7800GTX owner, Nvidias drivers suck. Too many "leaked" betas that break more than they fix and the quaterly/semi-annual official drivers are nothing to jump for joy.Rash said:"Nvidia Drivers Are Not Mature"

Prozac overdose? beta = software not ready ( use at own risk ) aka they can fix some problems yet cause more. reason why they aren't official. now i question your intelligence.

Tigerblade said:I think they took stuff/ideas/tech from 3dfx.....why would they not??
My opinion. End of.
thefordmccord said:Yeah, I'm sure they did, but they did not steal it. You act like it was a bad thing that Nvidia purchased a company and then used some of their technology.
Also, who's to say that Nvidia worked on SLI in the past 5 years? They may have not done anything with the tech up until PCIe came out because we had this magical thing know as AGP.
Tigerblade said:What I think is BS, which I'll mention again, is the NV !!!!!! BS about performance they know nothing of and the fact that NV invented SLi....they didn't. And I'm telling you now there will be remanants of 3dfx tech in the latest SLi and NV will have used 3dfx idea's and R&D to develop their existing products.
tsuehpsyde said:Really? That's crazy, because I thought most companies that purchased other companies did so to not use their technology. Thanks for clearing that up.
tsuehpsyde said:And two X850XT's better outpace two 6800U's as the X850XT's because X850 was a refresh, remember? Silly kids.
That is what you are doing here pimping hardware that the only test we have seen shows it about equal and lacking functional AA?Majin said:Will I base my next video card buy on who has the fastest card or set up, yes. But I will not be a FAN BOY about anything I haven't seen first hand!
Bzzzzzt. Wrong 7800GT is faster than X850XT PE as well.People Crossfire will be faster than SLI, because ATI's top card right now (X850XT-PE) is the fasted card you can buy (NOT counting the 7800GTX).
Bzzzzzzt. Wrong. 1. Wanting to do something, and being able to do something are two different things. 2. Every GPU ATI has ever released, except the one they bought from ArtX (R300) has been slower than nVidias. Why would this be any different? Because they bought the R300 from ArtX?Will the R520 be faster than a 7800GTX, of course it will, ATI would be foolish just to match nVidia.
See above, and add: 1. Will the motherboards be good? 2. Does anyone want/need a high dollar SM2, FP24 based multicard solution in the era of the 7800GTX and 7800GT SLI? 3. Is it a good thing to have your solution scale to the slower card? 4. How many AFR profiles will ATI have out of the gate? 5. How many driver issues will ATI have out of the gate? Will a Crossfire R520 be faster than a 7800GTX SLI... It had better be!
Agreed. But untill I see it, the 7800GTX is the king!
