Crossfire

It is silly to argue about something that hasnt seen the light of day except in the lab and apparently Anandtech's double top secret testing site. I hope CrossFire and the whatever card are excellent so all this arguing will go away. I have an SLI setup and I think it is real nice. I hope nVidia continues to make it better. I hope ATI has a good product so nVidia will be forced by competition to make SLI better, or else my investment will really be foolish. BUT right now I have a ton of fun. :D

That is what you are doing here pimping hardware that the only test we have seen shows it about equal and lacking functional AA?

I am not pimping anything, just stating my Opinion.

Bzzzzzt. Wrong 7800GT is faster than X850XT PE as well.

Good to see you know how to read. I even said ( Not Counting the 7800GTX) I am not stupid.

Bzzzzzzt. Wrong. 1. Wanting to do something, and being able to do something are two different things. 2. Every GPU ATI has ever released, except the one they bought from ArtX (R300) has been slower than nVidias. Why would this be any different? Because they bought the R300 from ArtX?

Common sense tell us all it will be faster. Do you think that it would be a smart move to release a card many months after your competitor only to make that card slower? Think about it...

See above, and add: 1. Will the motherboards be good? 2. Does anyone want/need a high dollar SM2, FP24 based multicard solution in the era of the 7800GTX and 7800GT SLI? 3. Is it a good thing to have your solution scale to the slower card? 4. How many AFR profiles will ATI have out of the gate? 5. How many driver issues will ATI have out of the gate?

Same thing again, Do you really think that ATI is going to not learn from SLI, again Why would they put out a slower crappy product to compete with SLI. Think about it!

Agreed.

About your not stupid remark, er well you are because he said GT, not GTX, you know the mid-range part, that costs around the same of a X850 XT PE ?

Yeah but your whole Nvidia Stole SLi Tech was pretty stupid.

Compare the Broken Betas to the Monthly WHQL Certified Drivers ATi produces every month? Just Because they have the title Beta Attached doesnt mean you should defend Nvidia. Their is no reason they cant do better with their Drivers. They are making some mega bucks I mean comeon.

It's easy for ATi to make monthly driver revisions...they haven't added any new technology in THREE YEARS. nVidia on the other hand has to work on all kinds of things...like SM3.0, HDR, SLi, onboard video processor...

Sitting around and tweaking a three year old design is easy, adding new technology every six months and still releasing reliable drivers, that's significantly more difficult.

because ATI's top card right now (X850XT-PE) is the fasted card you can buy (NOT counting the 7800GTX).
I was entirely correct to point out that the 7800GT (a totally separate card from the 7800GTX) is faster than a X850XT PE. You were WRONG.

Common sense?!?! You apparently LACK it. People can't put out competitive or better products just because they want to, or because it would be best for the company.
You have to engineer the better product, and sometimes that doesn't happen. In ATIs case, it NEVER happened. Every GPU they've designed was 2nd or 3rd. The one they bought from ArtX was first, but buying that tech doesn't convince me they're all the sudden the market leaders in engineering. History shows us otherwise.

ArtX pretty much works for ATI now. Not to mention, the 8500 was excellent hardware, more advanced than the gf3 it competed against, and mostly drivers were the main culprit behind any shortcomings in performance. As time went on, it even compared favourably agasint the gf4 in some ways.

It's true though, wanting to make a competitive product doesn't guarantee a competitive product. Either it will be or it won't, no amount of wishing will make the r520 faster than it is (or will be, I should say..)

the one thing peple forget to realise is that, ATI HASN"T RELEASED CROSSFIRE OR THE R520. HOW CAN PEOPLE SAY IT WILL BE GOOD, in my opinion Ati is waiting too long. when the FX was hyped up people treated the 9700 thesame way, saying stuff like "It will be a 9700 killer", BUT IT HADN'T CPOME OUT YET, not ONLY WERE THOSE PEOPLE WHO SAID THAT THE FX WAS GOOD, WRONG, BUT AFTER IT CAME OUT THEY LOOKED LIKE COMPLETE IDIOTS. I Prefer to stay in touch with a little thing called reality, CROSSFIRE IS NOT OUT YET, THEREFORE ATI'S FASTEST SUCK COMPARED TO NV'S FASTEST. Some of you compare crossfire to Sli and make indicative statements about SLI vs. Crossfire, I can do the same just by saying "AMD's X2 will suck in comparison to intels next line of processors, therefore the X2 suck" this statement may be true, but the fact is, intel hasn't released the next gen CPU's, so currently, the X2 is the best.
on a side note: I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANY CARD WITH LESS THAN FP32, FUCK SPEED, I WANT PRECISION, NOT SOME HALF ASSED LOOKING LANDSCAPE IN U3 WITH SO MANY ARTIFACTs I CAN'T SEE!!!

Point is: I DON"T CARE WHAT CROSSFIRE MAY BE ABLE TO DO, THE FACT IS, IT ISN'T OUT YET, AND UNTILL ATI RELEASES IT, IT ISN"T REAL AND FOR ALL I CARE ATI HAS CHEATED ON THE BENCHMARK, DON"T SAY ANYTHING UNTILL IT COMES OUT.

I've got nothing against ATI, never have, have always bought their products and thought they were "close".

However, even if you shift the argument to ArtX, ATI isn't a guaranteed hit for R520:

How many chips besides R300 did ArtX design that led the market? (answer:0)
A lot of companies have had flash in the pan good designs, nVidia has led the 3d market more than all of them. Even if ArtX totally designed the R520, to me that's no indication it will necessarily rock.

The fact that it's dual slot, on it's fourth re-spin, and execs are dumping their stock sort of hints at the opposite to me.

nVidia has their foot on ATIs throat these days, just the way it is.

Agreed for the most part. I do not intend to speculate on the performance of unreleased hardware. If ATi can pull a rabbit out of their ass, great, I'll probably try one, as I was very impressed with the r300 line. If not, next purchase will be nVidia for me.

Unless you have a crossfire setup or know someone who does,i would say SLI is the shit right now see as how theres no other cmpetition.
