Last month my creative speakers decided to go on me. I called up creative and the service rep advised me that it wasnt the speakers and that it was the subwoofer amp that had gone bad. She went on the explain that the speakers we not in warranty any longer and that I could pay to have them fixed. She said I would have to pay for the shipping and up to $50 in service fees. I agree, had them shipped FedEx to creative and been waiting ever since.

I decided to give them a call today and they said the reason they hadnt shipped back the sub is because I owe them $148.68 in repairs. I told them I wasnt going to pay that much since I could probably just get new ones for that price (or pay a couple extra dollars and get something a lot nicer). I asked the guy to just ship it back to me and he said I would have to then pay the shipping back to myself.....is that fair? can they do that? hold my speakers like that? If I go ahead and pay the $30 in shipping that they want then I would have paid about $55 in shipping and got nothing in return. Bunch of shit!!

So what can/should I do? Anyone help?

Personally, I would go with either the Klipsch 5.1 offering or the Z-5500's from logitech. Something just doesn't set right with the idea of wireless speakers. Not to mention, I think they each need power cables.

As for your situation, I'm not sure what I would do, but that's not cool. Those are pretty good speakers so I would lean more towards paying the fixing cost rather than a new set of speakers.

Keep calling and complaining, demand to speak to a manager or someone in charge. Get vocal with people, email everyday. Just annoy the hell outta them, eventually they'll gave once you get to the right person.

if i was in your shoes i'd just say **** it, ditch the pc speakers altogether, and build my own system.

Yeah, I think thats what I am going to do. I have already emailed them twice demanding they send me back my speakers. Thats just a bunch of shit that they can hold my speakers hostage like that.

well, after harrassing creative for a couple days I got this message

I have spoke with the rma supervisor and your speaker will be shipped
back to you with no charges added.

Thank you for choosing Creative Labs and if you need anything else
please let us know.

now that i am getting my sub back, all I need to do is replace the amp....is that hard?

How much is it to pay for the shipping back? do it if it's cheap.

Buy a set of z-5500. (No more worries about warranty, they won't make you send anything big to them if something goes wrong, just send in the control pod and they'll send you a complete set back...)

Anyways, buy a set of z-5500, get ur creative set back, take those satellites on the creative, put them on the z-5500 instead and there ya go :p

theyre sending me back my sub free of charge.....the only problem they said is it requires a new amp or something

so i can buy the z-5500s and just hook the creative satellites to it??

yes that would be fine. And an upgrade from the logitech's stock ones.. but since the megaworks 550 don't have tweeters either as the z-5500..... just test it and see which one sounds better.

i checked the prices and its almost $225 for those speakers.....i may check ebay to see if i can find some broken ones with a working sub or something.

anybody know where I can get my sub repaired where it wont cost me $150+??

If I cant get it fixed I was just thinking about getting some 2.1s.....since my speakers have been with creative I been using my headset a lot and I really like it much better then the speakers. I used to crank my music when I was in college but havent since.....dont really have the time to just listen to tunes.

these any good?

Well, I got my sub back from creative today

On the bottom of the sub 1 foot is missing and another one is cracked in half.
There is something inside of the sub too because when I shake it something is ratteling around inside. I was going to get it fixed by a local electronics store but now its worthless. I really dont think it was damaged during shipping because theres nothing in the bottom of the box and it was wrapped in foam/peanuts.

I am really disappointed in Creative's repair department. I emailed them again and hopefully they will replace it. If not, then I think I may go with those Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Speakers as amazon has them for about $120 shipped.

I guess Creative support department is run by different people on the other side of the pond. When my Gigaworks sub broke down a few months back, i emailed them about it. After a few customary email asking me to check up the connection, the setting etc, they finally asked me for my purchase detail, serial number etc and voila, i got a complete new set exactly a week after my first email was sent. And i didnt have to send my old set either.

mine was out of warranty so I think the return policy was a little different. they wanted to charge me $130 to have it fixed when I could have purchased new speakers for that price. Its been such a hassle dealing with them that I dont think I am going to purchase speakers from them again.

update!!

well, after going back and forth with creative I finally got them to agree to ship my speakers back to me at no charge. I was not going to pay $130 to have the sub fixed when i could get a new set for that price.

I finally got them in the mail a couple weeks ago and when I opened the box the speaker was smashed to shit. One of the legs was broken off and something had become dislodged inside the speaker. I got creative on the phone and was pissed. They claimed that was they received the speaker. I told them that the speaker was shipped in PERFECT cosmetic condition and the only thing wrong with it was the amp was blown. I was going to have a local electronics store just fix it for me but now the thing is worthless.

Just got off the phone with a creative supervisor and we discussed the situation. He claims that the speaker was shipped to them in that condition. There was no visible damage to the box when they got it. He also claimed that there was no leg(s) in the box when they got it. I explained to him that the only way that could have happened is if someone else opened the box while in transit. They took NO responsibility for the damage so I asked them to forward me a report of the condition it was received so that I can place a claim with FedEx since it was damaged in transit. He forwarded me an email with that information.

Does anybody else think this all sounds very fishy? How could the speaker get so damaged w/o any damage to the box? Also where did the damaged pieces go to since it wasnt in the box when they got it? Do you think that maybe it fell out of the box when FedEx was shipping it and they just put it back in the box?? What other steps can I take?

Well, if you read the post above it you would understand.

I called creative today because I needed a copy of my invoice for the speakers to prove to FedEx how much they are worth. I purchased the speakers over the phone from Creative. Well, the sales and tech department have no record of me purchasing the speakers from them. Hmmm sounds pretty strange that after I called them my information was removed from the system.....

well, what are you gonna do now? are there any usable parts from the speakers they sent back to you after they gave it an operation?

i only sent the sub back to them to be repaired. However the satellites need the sub in order to work. The sub is cosmetically and physically damaged. The insides probably could be fixed but then it would still look like a POS. Its not worth fixing at this point.

naw, i dont think I'm going to go 5.1 or hier on my next purchase. I been looking at the Klipsch 2.1's and possibly the JBL Creatures. I'm moving into a new place in a couple months and dont want to have speakers all over my new office. I have been gaming alot with my headset and I've really gotten into the games more then with the speakers. Also, I can game late at night w/o waking anyone up. I think my plan is to downsize the speakers so I can have more real estate on my desk for the 2407 ;)

But it still pisses me off that they basically damaged my sub and are not taking any type of responsibility for it.

I am sorry for your ordeal, but my experience is just totally opposite yours. Probably just my luck.

Well, to basically wrap this thread up. I called creative again and said if they were not going to take responsibility for breaking the sub then I would have to file shipping claim with FedEx. I finally found all of my info, contacted FedEx and they picked up the damaged speaker for inspection.

I just got an email today from creative stating that they are shipping out a replacement sub and all repair costs have been paid in full. I am not sure if Creative decided to do this on their own or FedEx paid for the claim.....all that really matters is that I am getting it fixed.

Another update to this bullshit

The email that I got from creative was an invoice from almost 3 years ago for repairs to another set of speakers. I called over to FedEx and now theyre trying to pull some shit that I only had 21 days to contact them about the damages. Creative is not taking any responsibility for the damages since it arrived in that condition. FedEx is saying I put the claim in too late. This is a neverending saga......I keep calling and nobody is doing anything. Thank god I bought that Sennheiser headset before xmas or else I would have no audio on my comp. I'll give em another month and then I'm just going to give up and buy some 2.1 Klipschs.

Well its been about 4 months now since I sent the speaker to be fixed and still no resolve.

Just to recap the story:

I sent my sub to creative to be repaired for a blown amp. They initially told me it was going to be $40 to be fixed. They called me up and said the charges were $137. I told them to ship it back to me - wasnt going to pay that price. Got the speaker back and it was smashed to shit. Spoke with creative to find out why it was damaged. They said that was the way they got it. Filed a claim with FedEx saying they damaged the speaker. FedEx now is saying its too late to file a claim since its past the 2 week delivery. Got them to understand I was not notified it was damaged by the manufacturer. They came and took the package only to deny my claim since the box wasnt damaged - but that wasnt the damaged box! That box was sent to creative 2 months earlier. Every day I keep going back and forth back and forth with these assholes. Why the fuck would I pay for insurance on the package only to have it denied? Whats the sense?

I've given up hope that I'll ever get it fixed, replaced or just get my insurance claim. My ban on creative and FedEx will remain. I'm going to pick up some Klipsch 2.1s as soon as I get some extra cash. Shipped Feb 6 and now its May 17.......long ass time not to have any sound for my pc....thank god I have my Senns 150s!

:endless rant:

FINALLY

i got a call today from the claims dept and they are going to cut me a check for $100 + the cost of shipping. Now I can finally close this case and pick up the Klipsch speakers!

I recommend a look at this if you want to save some cash.
I don't know about these....besides if you can find them really cheap you will probably have to pay out the ass to ship.

Just buy the Klipsch from Amazon. They are well known for rocking.

I already made my mind up about the Klipsch. I owned a set of altec lansing's and they are a POS....and im not buying anything from creative anymore so thats the end of that.

update

finally got the insurance check from FedEx for $100 and got the Klipsch 2.1's.

the speakers arrived but I'm not going to open them up until I move into my new place at the end of the month.

got em for $140 shipped so it only cost me $40.....and from what I heard....they rock!
