CPUs run hotter these days?

I just built a new rig:

Case Corsair Carbide Series 500R
PSU Cooler Master Silent Pro 700W
CPU Intel i7-3770K
Mobo ASRock Z77 Extreme 4
Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
RAM Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB x4
SSD Samsung 840 Pro 256G

And here are the baseline temps...

Prime95 for 1hr (Max Temp 63c):

IntelBurnTest (Max Temp 68c):

I am nervous about these results, because my previous OC (5yrs ago), I was able to take a Stock Q6600 (2.4Ghz) under-load with a Max temp of 48c, to 3.6Ghz with a Max temp of 56c...

And now I am already reaching 68c w/out OCing, what happened to CPUs in the past 5yrs that caused these temps to start out so high?

Granted I lapped my previous CPU cooler (Ultra-120 Extreme w/ Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F), maybe that is the trick, is the CM Hyper 212 Evo just not cut out for keeping this CPU running cool, or do I need to LAP it, or have CPU's changed that makes them not OC friendly or run hotter?

Thank you for your time,

Yep! Ivy Bridges and Haswell run hotter than Sandy Bridge, because they don't affix their heatspreaders to the dies with fluxless solder. They use a lazy thermal paste job instead. Googlefu your way to some guides on removing the heatspreader and reapply better thermal paste more evenly for better temps.

When have Intel CPU's not been able to run hot? My Q6600@3.6 idled at about 50C years ago. The chips don't really have any problems until they hit TjMax, and that is usually around ~100C.
