• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

Compromised Accounts

I feel like an idiot because this is the 3rd or 4th time I looked for 2FA in the account settings and I finally saw it. I kept overlooking the little red button there.

I had the 2f email code enabled before, enabled the totp and set that up in keepass a few days ago, pretty neat. (y)

that banner bullied me into turning it on ;)
fyi for any fellow oddballs, ms authenticator seems to work fine with it.

I never realized it was as option on here. It's on now, maybe add a MFA reminder banner for dummies like me...

Fortunately all my passwords are random AF and never duplicated anywhere.

I didnt even know we had 2FA. Wish I would of enabled it awhile ago. This my precious account.....my precious..

For 2fa I had a month or two in 2023 that all the sudden sent the code to my spam folder for no reason. It fixed itself and I haven't had an issue since, but if you don't get a code just check spam.

After reading through this thread... am I supposed to have gotten the message of using more than one username AND more than one password so that I have different logins for each and every website with login credentials that I visit?

Is this where I add the shocked Pikachu meme image?

Yes, the thing that people should be doing anyway, as well as 2FA whenever possible. You'd be surprised (or maybe not) how many people use the same logins for stuff.

2FA enabled here as of now. Put it off for too long and suggest we all get er done.

I'd bet money you're the last one. Microsoft is probably gonna send people to your door to offer you phones to switch to so they can shut down the supporting servers. :p

S40 probably had more users when they pulled the plug on it.

Anyway you can force people who post in the for sale/trade that they cannot post unless 2FA is enabled? Been wanting to buy a few things for my steambox I’m building but man I’m hesitant with those fake posts recently

It’s easy to check post history and get a feel for the seller. Also many of us put right in our fs thread that we have 2fa enabled, and mods have already said you can ask them to check to verify that is true on the account.

It was suggested before that 2fa be a requirement to participate in the fs/t forum but that’s not something that is easy to implement from the software side.

I check post history, heat if available and look out for the easy red flags, which have been discussed at length in this thread. And use common sense. Too good to be true? Hasn’t posted in 3+ years? Pics look fake? Language is suspect? Etc.

Yeah like that new random post selling a 5090 and the guy hasn’t posted in a long time.

The forum software does not allow for this, sadly

Yes. Being considered.
I’m glad to see this. Unfortunate to have to even consider it as a requirement but with the rash of hijacked accounts lately it would likely be helpful. I miss the good ol’ days where we just bought and sold to each other without much issue and passed good deals around. Now the hijacked accounts are eroding some of that unfortunately.

Agreed! Few like the inconvenience, but the forum already offers a strong, secure form of 2FA (TOTP), which, imho, is better than what most banks offer (why do most banks still do SMS?). Plus, 2FA in general is more common and understood than ever, and it could give folks overall a sense of comfort. Perchance.

I mean, if we had passkeys, I'd use that for sure!
