does the chipset get hotter when gaming? if so does it matter if it is heavy gaming or light gaming?

Yes the chipset gets hotter when gaming hence the term :Under Load" voltage=heat aslo strain= heat therefor heat=the enemy.

does it matter if its heavy or light gaming?

and is there any way to check my chipset temps? i have speed fan.

Yes , heavy stressful games like fear combat will strain your system more than say neverwinter knights 2 does,The harder your chipset has to work the hotter it will get.

It would be helpful if you tell us what motherboard and CPU you are running thanks.

I use a highly technical method. Play your game for an hour, stick a finger onto the NB or SB heatsink and count to 10. If you make it to ten do nothing. if by 5 you take your finger off, hot melt glue a small fan to it or repostion some other fan to give it air. If you dont make it past 3 then start looking at aftermarket solutions or pulll it off, remount with AS5 and add a fan.

when i touch it after gaming i would says its hot but i can handel it and i got the small fan blowing on the heat transfer pipe.

Kinda your call then, I will add that heat is the killer of electronics and the cooler the better.

is it normal for chipsets and the heat transfer pipes to get very hot?

idk what a northbridge fan is

but if your talking about this, look at the chipset cooling fan

i have that installed

and i heard if you smell it and it smells bad like garabe it means its overheating. i smelled it, it has a weird smell but it doesnt smell like garbage.

Edit: idk if this would effect anything but i blew on the hs and their was a good amount of dust.

bump

also do you guys know any software that monitors 680i temps? speedfan wont.
and how can i find out if my mother board is over clocked?

Edit: my dad cleaned the hs with a old tooth brush and what i thought was burn marks under the fan was actually dust build up.
