Chimp Challenge 2009 thread

Oh... duh. Need to be more awake when I read over details ;) Skimmed over the PST part

So, just wondering, since 2 of those teams have a mega folder... this should last only 5 days at the most. 5 Million points seems like nothing these days.

It should be very interesting as their two folders each have one million PpD. The current goal/target is 5 million, with the other folders, it should be over in 2. probably about the time that people figure out how to turn over all of the SMP & GPU2 clients over :D

Last year, there was no such thing as a mega folder. I'm not sure why the goal wasn't revisited given the change in folding landscape

I'm thinking 20 million might have been more appropriate this year.

Xili, is the target going to change or is it really going to stay 5 million? Also, are YOU still the captain? or was someone else nominated for this year? I've not seen any threads on it, so I have to assume you still are :D :D

Yeah, I'd even say up to 50 Million. Anyone can jack up a bunch of points for a couple days, even a week, but make the contest last roughly a month, through the ups and downs, then it'll be a REAL competition.

Also, I didn't participate in last years CC. Will there be a guide on how to switch over?

theres a guide here somewhere, its just a username and a passkey I think

That's correct. It a way to tease each other and other teams and hopefully get some who've never folded interested enough to help out short term/long term. :)

A little confused, do you have to use the passkey when switching everything over?

what?? are you trying to tell me that the PPD fairy doesn't exist?? :(

what's next? there is no Santa?

I hate to break this to you. There is NO SANTA. There is NO EASTER BUNNY.

OK. Now that I have redirected my frustrations from having to do my taxes, I feel better :D

lol at taxes
now the goal is not to blow my whole return on folding, I've already killed my state return

sad thing is I bought a 24 plug patch panel for a cat6 network and 1000' of cable in my new house, and I havnt even gotten the water turned on yet, there's my priorities for ya

thats what i'm talking about lol getting important things done first!

If it's not needed for the GPU, I'll pass on adding the passkey. :p

I'm going to have a meeting soon... A thing I'm very sure is that the target amount won't be 5 millions with the advent of gpu folding which isn't around last time we had the challenge. I'm thinking 20 millions as well but let's see what other leaders want. I'm still the captain :D

I was thinking around 20 million as well but as a minimum. I actually mentioned it last year when the new GPU client was released that we would need to increase the CC target much higher, and now with 3 mega-folders it's far more necessary.

I just installed the Standard client on some new borged boxen, and noticed the line asking for a passkey. I left it blank, not knowing what to insert.

Could someone explain this?

hey anyone know if theres going to be a news thing on the front page advertising the chimp challenge? this would be a perfect time to get some new users helping out and possibly bring back old users that got bored with F@H..

There was last year and I'm certain something will be mentioned this year since it will be bigger because of the other teams.

I'm glad someone posted in the old chimp challenge thread, it sent me an email that someone had posted and drew me back here. I haven't been folding much since i left for school but how can I pass up the Chimp challenge after last year? sounds like it's time to borg my dorm!

It's nice to see a lot of the older guys here and looks like there are alot of new folders i haven't seen before. for the [H]orde!

we could use you for more than the CC, and since your in a dorm, electricity is free!! (well, close enough lol)

[H]ardApe time again? Already? Time sure flies when you get old...

I scaled back quite a bit middle of last year due to financial cutbacks, but I'll ramp things back up for the [H]ardApe Team. I've got at least three Q6600's left to prep. In fact, I might even have to invest in a couple of those relatively inexpensive 260GTX flavored cards just for a few more PPD.

Appreciate the heads up. Been a while since I dropped in on the DC forums, so I'm glad I did.

Good to see ya.

Yeh if you can grab a GTX260 core 216 they can push 7k plus easy. UPS just dropped of another one today :D

That bring me up to 2x 192 core GTX 260s and 2x 216 core cards along with everything else.

Yeah, I saw that pic you had in the other thread holding up your boxen. Nice to see you're putting that BadAxe2 MB to good use like that. I'm still running 2x those boards in my spare boxen here, when I actually fire them up. Solid as a rock.

Woo, were getting people back LOL
Now if only there could be one more megafolder in Utah...

We just need to get people back then the megafolder's won't matter:) it's easier for a team to have alot more medium folders that way it doesn't hurt when the 1 big folder goes away.

finally started doing some test runs with my 8800GT again.. guess its time for me to upgrade cards.. barely can hit 5000ppd now even with my overclock.. ranges from 3750 for the 511 point WU's and 4900 for the faster ones..

lucky you, I'm getting 3k from my 8800GT I just put in today :(
I hope its not the 384's , because all 5 GPU's have those...

still, its should atleast beat my 96GSO's
those are down too, 2k a piece

I knew the mighty [H]orde would rally :p We's ain't even started yet. ;) All you fantastic guys and gals folding for team 33 don't forget to pre load your Chimp Challenge pernts. I think that's where we screwed up last year. Hell we even had help from our unselfish brothers and sisters on the SETI team and we still managed to get whopped outa' position #1

To quote a famous/infamous quote "bring em' on" :D

DCing for the CURE

I'd love to see that active folders number go up even more.

Well, I broke down and ordered a couple video cards and a couple more power supplies just for good measure. I figure I'll fix up a couple machines each with a Q6600, 2 Gigs DDR800, and a 260GTX in each and fold off the CPU and Video. Or would it be best to just focus on the GPU?

Might even crank up my machines at home during the monkey challenge and see what else I can contribute there. Hope to get back to my old folding PPD of 20k per day, for at least a little bit starting late April under the [H]ardApe tag. Maybe after that I'll keep those machines running with a couple 8800GT's and use the 260's at home for me and my oldest son.

I never stopped folding, but I've gotta ramp up and do my part for humanity and the [H]orde!!!

You should be able to run 20k ppd with the two 260 and some VMs on the quads. Anything else should be gravy.

Welp, I had just about give up on F@H WinSMP (it kept EUE'ing on me ) and was F@H GPU2ing on my 8800GS and 9600GSO GPU cards and WCGing on the CPU's of my 2x Q6600 G0's. I was also WCGing on the CPU of my E6600. The freakin' chip I've had to above 3 Ghz many times so I know it's good for 1333 FSB The "el cheapo" mobo I have it in only jumps to a 1333 fsb from a 1066 FSB. (no inbetweenies :() My problem, I believe is I have bottom of the barrel miss matched crumby PC6400 RAM in it, but I know the chip is good for better than 1333 fsb and that's on stock vcore (another thjing this jerkoff board won't let me adjust in the BIOS, hell, I can deep fry my RAM because there's plenty of RAM voltage adjustment. (oh well, you know what they say "beggars can't be choosers" and "you get what you pay for"or something like that )

Now I have my meager electronics garden 100% full bore 24/7 for F@H and getting ready for the CC. The quads are doin' WinSMP CPU and GPU2 GPU card, the E6600 is doin' WinSMP and I may just go with LinSMP, but ATM I'm using the boxen to play with Win 7 beta. I know in this day and age of the super GPU's and the GPU2 client 10k ain't jack, but I'm doin' the best I can and I just squeeked by with a little over 10k pernts (I wish I could OC' my E6600 :()

I have a screen shot of my FAHmon showing 10,566.36 pernts, but I don't know how to post it without it being a full size pic right off the bat and usin' too much system RAM for nothing
