Cheap upgrade from a MX400?

My friend is running on an AGP MX400. Yes, his dad didn't know any better when he bought the computer. Now this guy is loaded (money wise), but he. is. such. a. cheapskate. He can't understand how I can blow hundreds of dollars on silicone. What would be the absolute cheapest card he could get that could play Far Cry on medium or better settings. I'm thinking a GF 6200, but would it be worth it to go 6600? The jump to 6600GT might be a bit too much for him to swallow. What do you suggest here? nVidia only please.
 
Tell him that the best "deal" is the AGP X850XT PE. ;) Cheap people love deals. Or you could do something like that with an X800XL or a 6800GT. What CPU does he have?

I think it's a 2.4C P4, with like 512MB of RAM. It might have been 1GB of RAM, not sure.
 
Show him the deal for the agp X800XL for $250+tax at bestbuy this week and act like its the best deal ever! If thats too much, get a regular 6800 agp off newegg.com for around $180-190 that will perform better tehn the 6600gt and can unlock the pipes to 16 pipes instead of 12.
 
The 6200/6600/6600GT are all based on the same core (NV43 I think). You can unlock 6200's extra 4 pipes to get to 6600 specs, and then OC it to about 500core/600memory. I had a 6600 and ran it at 500/600 all day long with no issue.
 
If you/he doesn't want to mess with unlocking, etc. Go with the 6600 vanilla. Worthwhile upgrade. In general, in this price bracket, the more money you spend the better, so just recommend whatever card fits his budget.

My vanilla 6600 was $75 refurbished from newegg. It performed great for the price.
