I don't particularily like the slow boot time of .NET either, and there are no tangible benefits yet.

I'm pretty sure .NET is doing or trying to do a dynamic driver/control compile at bootup, which can take maybe another 10 seconds or so whether or not you install the CCC. Since it speeds up games about zero percent right now, I don't see any real reason to use install .NET or CCC unless you are a programmer, or unless you really like the new interface.
 
The way I understand .Net adds controls, not so much the driver itself part.

.Net would be the same as the /extra part in run.exe /extra, the part that executes is still the driver essentially, but it still needs the controls to run "the way you want it to". Since its dynamically compiled, you can see the output immediately, without having to run a seperate checking application. It goes to a hardware level too, which means no more checking the IRQ status 100,000 times a second (or maybe once every 250 clock ticks) to see if something needs bandwidth.

I've heard its like a kernel build for controls.
 
Dang...you would think that some people equate the video card they use with their worth as a human being.

So noodle thinks the drivers are crap...he can buy a truck load of ATI cards and STILL call them crap all day long.

The CCC IS crap...period, and yes I am going to uninstall it and go with the old CP, thank you very much! :p
 
I'm wondering if a few of you are not updating your .net framework, because the most recent update did immensely help bootup times with it installed (for me to the point I dont notice any relative increase). Also .NET is similar to Java, so no it doesnt operate on the driver level. As they improve the framework itself, CCC will get progressively better as right now I suspect many of the issues with CCC might lie in .NET itself. Eventually you'll see a lot more .NET applications showing up and its really nice when you look at it.

BTW I really think a few of you are also grossly overstating the issues with CCC. I don't know what the heck you guys are doing and having such issues (like slow bootups and settings not sticking). I personally am indifferent to it and my biggest issue is that they allow you to disable the preview app, which seems to sap quite a few resources. Also the person who had the issue with cli taking up 100mb might want to make sure you have the latest version as the memory issue should have been fixed from 4.11/4.10.

Edit: Try installing .NET framework 2.0 beta if you intend to use CCC here.
