can you just buy the AIO rad itself safely ive got some 140 Noctua fans i could slap on im sure theyd be good enough and would you do it yourself that way?

Huh? You can buy a rad yes. If it’s a aio it will almost always include a fan(s) as needed.

I've never seen a NIB AIO come without fans. That being said, you can slap whatever fans you want on it. I just changed out some Corsair fans for Noctua ones on my AIO.

no, they come with fans. yes, you can put whatever other fans you want on to them.
are we your google now?

An AIO is an assembly of radiator (w/ fans), waterblock, pump and hoses filled with coolant.
An AIO rad is just that, a radiator with nothing else. No pump, no waterblock, no hoses, etc.

As others have said, AIOs come assembled and full of coolant including fans. None come without fans. If you buy one with 280mm radiators (rad that uses 2x 140mm fans) you could probably use your fans, but without knowing which model you have we can't tell if they would be better or worse than fans coming with AIO/CLC.

AIO is parent group name for factory built and filled liquid cooling systems. AIO is parent group and CLCs are a sub-group of AIOs. AIOs that are not CLC have treaded fittings, copper radiator, fill port, usually better pump, and can be repaired and/or serviced as needed. Then we have CLCs with aluminum radiators, no threaded fittings and no way to repair and/or service. AIOs that are not CLC give full pump specifications for lift and flowrate, CLCs do not. While AIOs that are not CLC are build better than CLCs, they are still not even close to the quality of most custom loop components.

Probably more than you wanted, but just in case ...
