Building a Rig for WoW ONLY

yeah i did rebuild at one point and was almost done with it but my daughter needed something so i decided to wait till tax time and rebuild. the problem now is that im stuck at 1000 shipped unlike before where i had a fairly larger budget.

what i have in my cart as we speak is this

GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200
LG DVD Burner

Subtotal: $637.92

im missing a video card for this build. i figured if i can get a 4890 for 140 shipped that brings me up to $767.

thanks. all im short is the video card. i cant seem to find any at the 140 range on the forums. everything i can find is between 155shipped - $165.00. gonna have to keep an eye out

ive been reading Reviews and Comparisons all day on cards. just as we spoke i was reading the crysis comparison over at bit

ive been thinking about just biting the bullet and grabbing a 5850

if i add a 5850 into the build it brings me up to 948 shipped wich still puts me under 1000\

maybe ive been over THINKING this a bit but is a 955 c3 black necessary if im not going to overclock? was thinking how would these 2 chips work out

AMD Phenom II X4 925 Deneb 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor Model HDX925WFGIBOX - 140.99 Free Shipping
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Processor Model HDZ940XCGIBOX - 155.00 Free Shipping

the only reason i asked is because someone pme'd me telling me a 955 c3 was worthless if i wasnt going to overclock it

5850 would be a good choice

given how long you take between upgrades

when you come into some extra money after building this shit

try to get a 80 GB SSD cheap and you will see even more performance from your rig

because WoW is one of the few games that actually benefit greatly from a SSD

you know why that is right? Because all the information of WoW is stored on your disk drive and it's constantly loading shit from it, so if you get a SSD, it'll read that shit even faster and things will load much quicker, plus it will get you a few more frames per second because it will be loading things faster

but like i said, for your purposes, it's a great upgrade, you don't have to get it now

wait till you see a good sale with a good rebate, price drop, or some hardcore price drop + bing cashback

i don't blame you for being skittish over SSD's, because the truth is few people actually NEED them, you just happen to fall into the category of a person who would actually see a real world benefit from having one given what you want to do with your rig

For WOW, every bit of CPU power that you can get would be a good idea. So the 955 is not worthless. However the latest revision, C3 I think, isn't worth it since you're not overclocking. So the cheapest 955 model you can find will be a good choice.

BTW, the 940 is a bad choice for a new setup considering that it only supports DDR2 RAM. If building a new build from scratch, the X4 940 is a piss-poor choice for a CPU.

... in other words, get an AM3/DDR3 CPU (AM2+ only supports DDR2).

yeah i didnt see that with the 940. there is a guy on the forums selling a c2 965 for 165 shipped. im hoping to hop on that since its the same price as the 955 c2
