Both versions of MGS V coming to Steam.

I just completed Mission 18- Blood Runs Deep...wow that was one of the most frustrating yet brilliant levels in any game I've ever played...every moment after extracting those 'targets' was nerve wracking...I didn't think any game could surpass Bloodborne as GOTY but this is now the top dog for 2015 (and I'm not even half way through MGS5)...I haven't played Witcher 3 or Arkham Knight yet but they have a lot to live up to in order to surpass Phantom Pain

i find ddog more useful for that purpose...
it can detect shit inside huts etc and quiet's trans sniper rifle lacks penetration

Yeah, for stuff near Snake. Quiet is good for long range scouting, and then switch to DDog for infiltration.
Apparently you can level up bonding pretty quickly like this. I took DD on a mission last night, switched to Quiet half way, then switched back to DD, and they both leveled up 3 points once that mission was complete. It was a main mission, not side op, not sure if it makes a difference, but I know GMP payout is sliced in half, and not just for that mission, when redoing missions "too much". I had half my main missions list go "Blue GMP" after I completed main mission 3 twice in a row.

are you guys kidding me!? no one is excited for me given my name?!

Damn, FOB infiltrations are HARD. I was able to successfully invade one players FOB that was a lower level, but the 6 others I tried that were decked out pretty well I died fairly early on. It is very challenging. I was also able to defend mine successfully twice. Could be good fun for sure, looking forward to doing more.

I'm loving the Africa map...reminds me a lot of the island maps of Crysis...more color to it as well rather then the grey desert locales of Afghanistan...I keep unlocking new abilities for Quiet...now she has some sort of grenade ability...but her scouting and cover fire abilities are the best for my play style...I think I'm going to try some of the other Buddies soon (Walker, dog, horse) to raise up their Bond levels

finished the game last night...some thoughts

FUCK KONAMI SRSLY. They cut out so much shit from the game. Apparently Kojima was planning 5 chapters total but Konami happend.
Skull Face arc was suppose to be 2 chapters long, and chapter 2 we got was suppose to be chapter 3 which was rushed to hell (yea tons of shit from that chapter was cut out). On top of that, Eli arc was suppose to be Chapter 4. And finally 5th chapter with proper end. This is clip to Chapter 4 content which came with the disc exclusive to CE

Yep, I finished the main story yesterday as well and I agree with everything you said.
It's clear Kojima wasn't given the time to finish the story properly. It felt like story-wise the game had only begun and there were a ton of plots and arcs that still needed to be told.

Had Kojima been given the time to execute his vision to completion, I have no doubt this would've been one of the greatest games ever. While the gameplay and mechanics are 10/10, the game just feels incomplete and really drags down the final impression of the game. Such a shame.

I'm getting burnt out doing the Side-Ops (I've done 50 so far)...think I'm going to focus more on the Main Missions now (I'm up to Mission 20)...the main missions are fantastic and a lot of fun

I'm so torn on buying this. The last couple of MGS's I didn't like too much but I've heard nothing but great things about this one. And it's $46 on green man gaming right now..... hmmmmmmmm, decisions decisions.

The controls on this game are so incredibly shitty it's mind boggling. Got attacked by a wolf and the onscreen instructions to defend were part keyboard and part gamepad.( E key+joystick) I don't even have a gamepad. Who designed that? Witcher 3 expansion can't come soon enough.

Yeah, very different. The past games were linear, compared to this one, in that if you reach a boss or get stuck in the past games, that was it. You pass it or you're stuck. This game, you can basically do whatever you want at anytime you want. So if you ever get stuck, theres a ton of other things you can do(which will make you more powerful by getting more stuff), and can come back later. This game is VERY gameplay first, everything else, second. You still have long cut scenes but you will be playing ALOT more than watching. Such a blast, the best MGS I have ever played and I'm very partial to the first one.

Is there a better way to get good guys on your team rather than just trolling around the map looking for random dudes? Seems like about 90% of the guys on the map are useless (D/E class) and it's getting a bit dull trying to grind for decent units.

I know you can do the side ops but they seem limited, and then you only get one guy at a time.

higher the hero points better d00ds you can find on field
but it caps out @ S... S+/S++ are volunteer or from fob missions
i believe uh you can start finding S rank soldiers after like 120~130k hero points

you pretty much have to search the map...interrogate enemies and they'll reveal the location of the Specialist/Elite guys in that area...in the beginning of the game I was Fulton'ing everybody, now I just select those high skill guys (I do Fulton all animals plus a lot of weapons and vehicles)

I think I'm going to get it, but for Xbox one probably. I heard multiplayer doesn't come out for PC until January? My brother is telling me multiplayer is amazing.

No no, that's Metal Gear Online, which nobody can play right now, even consoles. It's a separate game in a way, think GTO with GTA5.
What he's talking about is the FOB invader stuff, that you can do right now in any version, though I haven't reached it yet in my game.

Do you see the grid lines on this image? It is pretty much on the entire screen, it is especially noticeable on the grass and sky. This is with maxed settings and 4k. This just looks bad.

I have that exact same issue. Radeon 290. What GFX card do you have? Might be a driver issue.

Does anyone know of a way to keep KB/Mouse and the 360 controller enabled at the same time? Secondary utility?

*edit* Figured it out, if you hit a key on the KB, the mouse is activated. Movement is much better with the gamepad simply because of the speed control. But the shooting is so much easier with mouse. Tried to run both at the same time, but there seems to be a slight delay in the switch from controller to KB/M - so can't have my left hand on the controller and right hand on the mouse.

Logitech G13 with joystick in joystick mode doesn't seem to work as intended (works just like WASD).

So unlocked the legendary smith and can't seem to figure out, is it not possible to make regular "dmg" rifles non-lethal? I was under the impression that you could do that.

However when I go to customize them the magazine has a red x and I can't change it to the "zzz" type ammo.

All three rifles are the same rank (2), but when I select the "Base" as either of the dmg rifles I can't change their magazine type.

So you have to reach a certain part in single player in order to open the invader multi stuff
?

You can't switch the lethality, some sniper rifles you can change the ammo type I think. but different barrels/front ends and scopes/suppressors. You can change stocks and fore grips too, not sure how much difference they make.

I just unlocked the FOB (Mission 22)...I don't understand all the details and mechanics of how to set this thing up properly but hopefully things will make more sense the further I progress...for now I let the game control it and set it up so the Security is at maximum level

yeah a lot of the customization options look to be for cosmetic reasons...I did put a suppressor on my sniper rifle though which I was looking to do for awhile...I'm actually sticking with weapons I like and upgrading to higher versions rather then constantly changing out to new weapons...I find even early game weapons can be made pretty powerful...the rocket launcher I have can easily take down those gunship helicopters

Yea, I noticed that too. But I try to play this game straight up stealth with no killing the first time through. The second time I think I am going to do w/e.

I like the Japanese influence in this game, it's been a long time since I've played something like this.

I'm trying to go stealth as much as possible as well (for the Main missions) but if I get spotted then I just go in firing...repeating the Main missions again with stealth is very time consuming...taking down those gunships is pretty fun though

This is pretty much the exact opposite of how I feel. I wish there was a bit more realism and less Japanese quirkiness. It's just awkward and certain things seem so out of place and downright odd or cringeworthy; like most of the dialogue/writing.

how exactly is the Metal Gear Online multiplayer going to work?...the game is based on stealth so how would multiplayer matches work?...doesn't seem like they would be able to keep the stealth aspect and would have to make it a typical FPS MP

After reading the steam forums, I'm a little more concerned about whether or not I can stay isolated from MP.

I have to say after playing more (and relaly enjoying it) the ONE Thing that I wish you could do (And I don't get WHY they left it out) would be to "hang" onto vehicles when you climb under them.

In the first outpost when I started playing I snuck up under a truck and the driver got back in it and half expecte dto be able to "grab" onto it and get a free ride, but alas you can't (unless you get into the back, which makes it a lot more risky and people spot you).

Guess I just watched too many movies like James Bond/Mission Impossible and such where they do that.

I've been reading about this and the FOB missions the past few days and playing them a lot. It's really not as big of a deal as people are making it out. All you need to do is get that first free FOB with 2 units at least, level them up to at least 2/4 or 3/4 (command platform and combat unit for example) and set them both on highest security in security settings. Also developing the drone and mines is easy. Do that and barely anyone will be able to infiltrate you.

Plus, once someone infiltrates you your base is blockaded to most players for 24hrs. Again, setting up your fob like I described will stop 80% of players. And for all the failure invasions, you win like 10 A - A+ guys and like 400,000 GMP just for your base defending itself. If someone infiltrates you they may get 10 of your guys if they're lucky, but at the Rate of success, you will end up making out better because the majority of players won't be able to invade your base fully. It's very stacked for the defender.

Also, go to the relationships tab in mother base menu. Go to the random tab and pick 10-20 people to support. If you're lucky a few of them will support you back. Now you can defend those players FOB which is usually very easy. Just had a fun ass time doing it last night, took out 2 guys with mortar spamming them half a mile a way once the security team tagged them. So fun. Anyways, if you get invaded it sends a help message to those people who support you. You get a ton of GMP and some staff and resources for defending other players FOB as well.

Even if you don't do anything to your fob and leave it low level easy pickings, most people except noobs won't bother with it because the reward isn't what they're looking for. And if they do win, they will only get low level guys from you if any at all.

I was unsure of the whole thing as well, however after reading a lot about it and just playing the past few days I'm really digging it. I'm not worried about losing anything. I've had a few guys nabbed or killed by rivals but overall I've gotten 175 staff members from other people's FOB, as well as rewarded them for my base defending itself.

I was thinking the same thing. There is a mission in Africa that has you scope out a weapons inspector at the airport, and being able to hang on under a truck would have came in handy big time for me on that one.

What I find weird, that is missing, is not being able to GTA someone in a vehicle.
Theres no way to grab someone in a car/truck, you literally have to let them know you are there, so they get out of the car/truck, and you can knock them out. Or kill them... But you can't gank someone out of a vehicle. Unless I missed something, I can grab a prisoner out of the back seat, but I cant grab the driver/passenger. Sure did kill my sneaky attempted at silently taking a truck with my bare hands...

The EMP landmine silently knocks out any vehicle and occupants inside the vehicle without raising the alarm.

It has mandatory MP? Can't one switch it totally off like in Watch Dogs, or do I have to turn off my connection for the time I play. I don't mind playing with others in things like MMO or world of warships, but I'd love to play my single player games in single player mode.
