Borderlands 4

That explains why I've never noticed shit for difference with vsync on or off since getting a VRR monitor. It basically does nothing if you have an fps cap. I suppose the other caveat is I rarely actually hit the max refresh of my screen until I got a 5090 and started playing around with frame generation. I don't really do PvP and if my FPS is high enough to worry about needing vsync or not I'm looking for a setting to turn up.

I'm pretty sure I could run Borderlands 4 with no vsync & no fps cap without hurting my latency unless I turned on framegen because I am just not going to be hitting 138fps without FG (48" 4k LG OLED, so it's basically an overclocked TV). Setting an fps cap & using framegen limits me to ~67 real fps, and I'd rather just use DLSS balanced for more real frames. I'm not real sensitive to displayed fps so I tend to go for latency over visual smoothness and leave framegen off. Even 50fps looks ok to me, but it feels laggy.

I've had a good time with all the Borderlands games, but I'd say 2 is my favorite of the bunch. It felt the most polished out of the gate. With 3, they kept introducing powerful new weapons only to nerf them into the ground each time. By the end of the DLCs they wanted to get away from that, so the new drops just sucked.
This is where save editing saves you from crappy developer decisions. It's one of the best reasons to play on pc.

BL3 sold over 18 million copies as of 2023. I think they'll keep making them as long as they keep selling. To be the first game was original, had a nice theme/setting. BL2 had a slightly better story, but got a bit bloated. BL3 played the best, but the story and whatnot were not as good as BL2. At this point it is getting to be more of the same. Counting The Pre-Sequel and Tina's Wonderlands, there have been 5 BL games. Hard to make a 6th game really standout.
Armored Core 6 is pretty cool.

I have been using Gsync monitors without needing vsync as most games would not hit 240 fps. Even if they did vsync just led to sluggishness that I couldn’t stand. I also never capped my frame rates.

Now with 4K 240 on OLED can’t even use VRR unless you like a little bit of flickering and epilepsy. Can’t believe this crap isn’t fixed for OLEDs. If it is point me to a fix as I stopped looking since last year.

Back to the game, this is really ticking all the right boxes for me. Movement is sublime, guns pack a punch, boss fights are not easy but also not crazy difficult. The constant weapon upgrades change the rhythm a lot. It just works. Thankfully Vex is also a nice sounding woman so you don’t get annoyed by constant chatter. There are so many QOL updates that the game is just a sandbox of fun. I still wish I could bring down pc latency to under 30 ms so shooting feels more immediate but can’t have everything I guess. Just a great time and I can’t wait to play more.

I think some monitors fixed (or mitigated) it, not all. I just don't use G-Sync and use a FPS cap. I haven't noticed any tearing, so it works fine for me. (Alienware AW2725DF)

We have the same monitor, I use Gsync and even though it's not on Nvidia's certification list it does have AMD Freesync Premium pro, and it works great with Gsync compatible.

You don’t have flickering in dark backgrounds or dark scenes?

Nothing that I have noticed on this monitor or the last couple I've had, I even asked my friend who has a similar monitor as me and he uses Gsync the same way as me and everything is fine. Unless there is something wrong you shouldn't be seeing tearing or flickering. I also use a quality DP cable by the company Cable Matters, having a good DP cable can make a big difference. I attached two pictures of what I use for settings as well, maybe it's something you already do or maybe it'll help.

Ok I will update the firmware and retry as I have a MSI 321URX which goes ape shit as soon as I turn on VRR. Best way to confirm VRR flicker is black background menus (like COD BO6, Cronos New Dawn etc.) or dark scenes (like Dead Space or Cronos New Dawn or any silent hill or resident evil games with dark areas).

Your MSI MPG 321URX QD gets a better score than mine with VRR flickering, although flickering shouldn't be a problem if you're maintaining a consistent frame rate. VRR flickering is a common trait with all OLED monitors, some are better some are worse.

It is a rare occurrence during gameplay. Mostly it's in menus but it is annoying enough for me to turn it off and not turn it back on. COD MP search for new match is a black background so for like 1-2 mins between matches you have a nightmare flicker zone if you have VRR on.

I don’t play the games you mentioned, I do play Stalker and BL4 and don’t notice any kind of flickering. I did look up on ChatGPT and found the game itself can cause flickering due to compatibility issues with VRR.

PC games can definitely cause flickering, and menus are one of the most common spots where it happens. A few typical reasons:

  • V-Sync / G-Sync / FreeSync conflicts – Menus often run at extremely high frame rates (hundreds or even thousands of FPS), which can cause screen tearing or flicker if frame pacing isn’t controlled.
  • Frame rate capping issues – Some games don’t cap menu FPS, which stresses the GPU and can cause instability or flicker.
  • Resolution / refresh rate switching – If the menu runs at a different resolution or refresh rate than gameplay, the display can “flash” or flicker when switching.
  • Overlay conflicts – Overlays from Steam, Discord, GeForce Experience, etc. can sometimes cause flicker in menus.
  • Driver or game bugs – Certain games just have poorly optimized menu rendering, leading to flickering
Try disabling any Nvidia or Steam overlays as well, I do not use any of those as they can lead to problems.

They key to this game just get better Gear I had maybe a few levels lower gear I couldn't do this area at first then I got a throwing knife that either 1-2 kills anything except bosses.
I turned the settings down so the game is easier on the eyes I even turned textures down a notch. It looks good but the game is hard on the eyes maybe I just need a few days off from Work.

Screenshot is a base exit ramp on the Campaign after you help Zandra.

If you are using Gsync/Gsync compatible and not exceeding your monitors refresh rate there should be no need to enable Vsync, you can always cap your frames such as I do playing a game like HL2. That's how I've been doing things since 2020 and my first Gsync compatible Dell monitor, I've never had issues with tearing or anything else. Currently I have a 360 refresh rate on my Alienware monitor so I don't worry about anything.
Lies. Blur Busters has an article as to why you should always use VSync with GSync. VSync ensures the scanout rate of the display is adhered to, otherwise you can still get tearing as pointed out earlier.

Turn vsync on? Blasphemy. ;)

I've gotten lucky with some pretty nifty throwing knives myself. Don't overlook these when you come across them.

IF you want to get into the base just climb rocks and go around the bases corner

Then Jump off the Rocks or Plateau and Glide in like Tribes.

I have a new way of playing this game I don't give a shio& I just lay back in my chair and Valari and hope my Golden Key gear and Shield is good enough.
I'm playing on Normal.

Call it what you want I really don't care what you think, what I'm saying is my own personal experience so really not lies at all. I have never had a problem with tearing on any of my Gsync monitors with any game, even older games such as HL2, Doom or MOHAA, and that is with Gsync set to "use 3D application setting". Sometimes I cap my frame sometimes I don't, it depends, older games I will cap the frames. As far as Blur Busters, I never heard of them.

You haven't been using the feature properly for years. The recommended is gsync+vsync ON in CP/OFF in game and if possible fps cap 2-3 below refresh rate. As others have mentioned other settings will limit your FPS now anyway like the low latency setting.

Turning Vsync on is a safety net if you exceed your monitors refresh rate, typically if you cap your frames or don't exceed your monitors refresh rate you shouldn't notice any tearing. Turing Vsync on or off in the control panel doesn't affect anything, it remains dormant unless you break that ceiling, so if anyone feels they need to turn it on it's a matter of a users situation and preference, but really this thread is about BL4, not VRR and Vsync.

People have suggested playing on hard for better chances at better gear. I have been doing that and there might be something to it. Worth considering.
I've gotten some pretty good gear, I have mostly purples and some legendry's, I'm sure you would get even better stuff playing on hard but I'm already getting my ass kicked on normal. 😂

I Saw a YouTube video where the guy said gearbox told him in a message that it's not better gear chance, it's better rolls on the gear chance. Its also not much of an increase so farming on easy and killing bosses 2-3x faster is a better way of farming currently.

It doesn't matter, you're objectively wrong. You're more likely to see tearing in a game like this without VSync on due to the frame drops.

I've been playing on Hard and didn't get a Legendary drop until I finished the quest that takes you to the base with Rush for the first time. I think some drops are simply gated.

As I said I really don't care what you think, so yes it doesn't matter.

Do you not seen screen tearing on the bottom of the screen? That is typically what will show if you just use G Sync without V Sync. Generally both seem to have the best results, there is really no reason not to. It doesn't lock your frame rate or anything if G Sync is enabled.

I got the rainbow vomit shotgun last night and man that thing slaps, gonna be a while before I switch that out. Also got whatever the assault rifle is that calls in a huge laser from above which can take out nearly a whole health bar from bosses. Need a better shield but my status effect Harlowe is tearing through everything on hard.

No, not in the main games I currently have on, Stalker 2, BF2042 and BL4 they all had no tearing anywhere.....I even tried HL2 with no frame cap and it looked fine with no tearing, plus the original Doom with no cap and it didn't exceed my monitors refresh rate of 360. This has been the case since I've owned Gsync compatible monitors since 2020, I never had issues with tearing, flickering or anything else. But maybe the situation is different per user and Vsync may be needed in that case, I just have no reason to turn it on.

You guys are amazing posting these gold keys. It changes the game 👍🏻.
you can either follow the bad insane man on X or theres a subreddit that posts them /borderlandsshiftcodes

theres 2 per day at least

also, you dont wanna open those chests right away, you'll outlevel the weapons so fast. try to hold off using them until level 50
