Borderlands 3

I just spent an entire pointless conference call playing the science video game which I didnt know existed. It made me feel all smart and useful getting pioneer new records.....on puzzles no one has probably played yet. :(

So I have the base game of this, haven't really played it yet but plan to soon. I have a $10 coupon burning a hole in my pocket, should I spend it on the Tentacle DLC? If so, will I miss out by not having the Moxxi DLC?

If you have not finished the main game, wait for a season pass sale... But all of the DLC's are (afaik) completely separate story lines and can be accessed from the sanctuary ship.

I played through the new level this morning and had fun with it. The Scarface/Miami Vice vibe is well done.
It's very much like the Heck level was, although I don't think you actually even have to explore even 1/2 of it to complete the mission. I did, but I didn't find much. At least other than some additional randomized chests.
The difficulty on the new level felt like it was designed for someone in the 40's. I was melting most foes in seconds, although those damn dogs and flying sentries still hurt a lot and can overwhelm you.
There's a new exclusive grenade ("Fish Slap") that seems to have some use to it. If nothing else, it hits pretty hard if your aim is decent. Ghost Call is still almighty as far as I'm concerned, though.
I'll probably play through again later today. There's a new puzzle (kinda like the colored skulls in Heck) that I didn't do correctly. Feels like I could probably blow through things in a few minutes since I now know you can skip 1/2 the mansion, too.

Simply adding new SDU's was a little bit of a letdown. For a few weeks they kept saying you were going to want/need more money. It's not that I don't appreciate a larger backpack and vault, but I don't know if I really needed them. Ditto with more rockets and sniper rounds. They're the only ammo I ever ran out of, but I kinda felt that was intentional and the game didn't want you maining either of those weapon types.

I don't use sniper rounds but I do use rockets, rockets are the only ammo that I run out of, so I don't even care about anything that says it'll restore X amount of ammo; I'm just never really short of ammo. I rarely even buy ammo, I just run around and pick it up from the ammo boxes!

Played on Mayhem 1 and 2 now, going for 3 later tonight.

Just got that drop on Mayhem 2.

Still looking for that one....
There's a new puzzle
Where is the puzzle, looked all over and have not found it. Apparently I walked right by it as I have covered the whole map.
I don't use sniper rounds but I do use rockets,
I have a Kracatoa(sp) rifle that hits harder than any RL. I just got a new one dropped today that was 16K and a new mod that gave me +35% sniper. I have seen it hit over 300K damage.

I was doing the tentacles DLC today, but damn that boss at the graveyard is a pita, died after 20+ mins of fighting as I ran out of ammo and still did only get half of his shields and armor down, this fight is insane.

Start the puzzle at the keyboard on the desk in the room where you get the mask piece for the fountain.

Yup, the puzzle is in the room that looks like an office. There are numbered books on the wall and shapes on the screens. I hit the first one I saw without much thought and you don't get a 2nd try. I'm guessing it probably just unlocks a red chest, but maybe it does more? I dunno. Will probably try it today. RDR2 keep occupying my time.

I feel like all of my good rocket launchers suck now. They keep nerfing them. I keep the ION cannon around for FFYL since it still hits for 20K per shot, but it otherwise isn't very good. For snipers, the Krakatoa is amazing. When combined with the Pearl of Ineffable Knowledge (which stacks consecutive hit damage), it wrecks things. The volcanic explosions after enemies die do pretty big damage, too. It runs out of ammo quickly as a main weapon, but it's a strong #2 or #3. I still stick with my x2 Atlas rifles 90% of the time.

Hmmmm. I must not be grasping something. I borked the puzzle again and was actually trying to solve it.
Mayhem 2 is crazy now. Stronger enemies explode with weapons galore. I completed the new mission on Mayhem 2 and figure 3 is probably also feasible. I dunno about much more, which is fine. Drops on Mayhem 2 are ever-present, but they aren't as good (stats-wise) compared to the same difficulty prior to the patch.
Didn't get any particularly notable drops on my 2nd run, although I did get a high-level Ruby's Wrath when farming for the items that let you access the mansion. Since the ION cannon sucks now, I'm going to roll with that as my rocket launcher du jour. Hopefully they add some more decent ones soon.

I'm running all settings Ultra but at 75% resolution scale (of 2560×1440) capped at 92FPS and decided to drop TAA to FXAA and I disabled the sharpening FX thing because I assume that is AMD only, my average frame rate has increased and the game looks much sharper/cleaner. I think TAA is a very bad mix when using res scaling because the image is significantly cleaner running FXAA instead, it's noticeably blurry-looking with TAA + res scaling.

t mostly has to do with Borderlands 3 having the worst resolution scaling I've ever laid eyes on - and TAA makes it worse!. I run things at full resolution 1080p , a mix or high and Ultra on a GTX 1060 6gb, and get around 60-70fps.

The key is to turn Fog down to medium - at high, it was dropping my fps into the 40s. Turn fog down to medium, and you should be able to run at full 1440p at your desired framerate. - There are a lot more impressive feature you can turn on for a lot lower cost than fog!

Also, AMD's sharpening works fine on g all cards!- I's no AI anti- aliasing, but the results re fine.

Anyone get the OPQ, aka. the the new gold Atlas assault rifle? That's basically the one weapon I *need* to get before they lock this level down. There are pictures online and stats seem to vary, so I'm curious if they all have 2x damage. The only way to get it is to kill mansion mini bosses, so I guess I'm going to try and find a good pattern through that level.

Something I'm noticing with Mayhem 2 - the drops aren't even always as good as Normal difficulty. I usually keep one of everything in my vault. I either swap out or sell new versions after each mission. Almost none of the Mayhem 2 items I've gotten have better than the drops I previously got on normal. If there's no modifier there, I'll just go back. I don't need the 8-million random drops drops (and tougher enemies) if there's no real point to any of them.

wait..is there a new DLC since the casino one?

Yup. Guns Love & Tentacles is the 2nd large DLC pack, similar to Moxxi's Heist (aka. the casino level).
There is also a single-level free DLC going on for the next month that's akin to the Halloween level.

I struggle in M3 but I can make it through. Have had a litany of drops but all basically useless sell offs. Beat the mansion boss in first try with 4-5 FFYL's. Will replay again along with my normal Mouthpiece run - One of my favorite boss battle arenas of all time.

Im getting REAL tired of the freeze tag orbs though. The frequency of those is way to high.

Can anyone confirm that Mayhem drops are truly better than normal ones? Obviously I believe Mayhem 10's would be...but what about 1-4?

I got a cost effective opq, it's incredible... Unfortunately I was level 43 on my first playthrough so it wasn't as potent as possible, but it MELTS

Hmmmm. It claims that Mayhem weapon drops should be more powerful, but I'm simply not seeing that so far. I'm wondering if it might be related to me getting many of these drops on the OLD Mayhem 2 rather than the newly revised one.

Could be, also random stats are random (to a point) but it could be you need to up the mayhem level to compensate for the new version of mayhem.

This smallums wont die bug is pissin me off. twice now he takes infinite dmg at hp1.

Plus side a optimized OPQ system leg assult rifle dropped. 4058x2 with no crit dmg.

I managed to get an OPQ that does 5050x2 with an additional 75% damage to named/badass/etc. enemies when using an action skill. Since I mainly play FL4K with Fade, that works perfectly. I got another one with worse stats across the board, too. Mayhem 3 for both.

That said, they're gonna nerf this this and I'm certain of it. It basically slaughters anything in milliseconds. Trick is, since mine only has 22 rounds, I spend more time reloading it than actually firing it. Not that it matters since it wrecks anything that isn't invincible, so FFYL is no big deal.

Guess I'll enjoy this thing while it lasts. It has ION Cannon v. 2.0 written all over it.

Finally gotten through the tentacles DLC and also hit max level, got half a dozen variants of the same assault rifle, and even though it is pretty decent that's a bit much of the same :p

I'm able to solo the new Cartel area on Mayhem 10 with just two guns, the Kaoson and the Sand Hawk. The Kaoson is an SMG and the Sand Hawk is a sniper rifle. I'm using Amara.

I'm noticing that Mayhem can be made much easier by re-rolling the status effects. Some are just simply rougher than others and some good side-effects are more offsetting than others. Loot explosion is nice, but if you're struggling, the status that makes everyone have large heads is handy. Others are best avoided depending on your loadout and play style.
I figure I'll play until I get the Yellowcake (an apparently OP rocket launcher) and then stop for a while. I figure I don't want to get burned out like I did with Destiny.

I was just going to ask if anyone has seen Yellowcake. Buddy of mine got one yesterday and it can 1-shot most bosses.

I played through again this morning before work and got nada. Yellowcake is the only thing that's going to keep me playing. Even though I'm 100% certain it and the OPQ are gonna get nerfed into dust.
I just now (like an idiot) realized that it's 100x faster to turn Mayhem off when collecting the code items prior to the mansion level. Lectra City gives those items up pretty quickly.

Ascention Bluff in Pandora is an easy one as well on the way to Mouthpiece.

You are right in the OPQ nerf coming. I previously had to dodge and play smart in M3, after my OPQ drop, which after seeing others is fairly weak, I just run and gun killing everything in seconds. In roughly 3 minutes I had all 30 rings and 8 leg drops (3 purple enemies and 2 badass).

I got a pair of Yellowcake drops. One wasn't that impressive, the other was better. Both dropped on Mayhem 4 and the good one had additional radioactive damage + 5K more initial damage. The other one had some kind of grenade boost or something pointless.
I'm not seeing some of this "it breaks the game even on Mayhem 10!" stuff. Maybe you have to go with a really specific build or Moze, but as Fl4k, I think the OPQ is way better. The rockets are slow and the splash damage doesn't seem to always register. It hits really, really hard when you land perfectly, though. With it being so slow, that's not that easy. It's still the best RL, but that's not saying that much. Perhaps different versions of it are better, too. I dunno. I could just be missing something, too. I tested it vs. Jack's robot and the OPQ takes down a full health bar in 1 magazine. It takes 2 (slow) rockets to hit his head to do the same.
All I know is that the OPQ is my jam for now. My hope is that when they certainly do nerf it, they only lower the damage or maybe slow it down. Compensate for that by making the magazine larger. Even with 1/2 damage it's still better than any other Atlas rifle out there. Best purple or blue ones I've seen only do 2x1900.

Oddly, now I can't seem to get another Yellowcake drop to save my life. I've completed the mansion a dozen times and I still only have those 2 drops that happened at the same time. I wonder if they tweaked something on the back end? The one I have simply isn't that great. The videos of people 1-shotting Mayhem 10 bosses simply isn't happening with this one. I have gotten another OPQ or two on Mayhem 5, but neither were as good as the previous one. One did hold a little more ammo (28 rounds vs. 22), though. That could actually be better, but the damage was quite a bit lower.
I'm finding Mayhem 4 to be the sweet spot as far as blowing through things quickly. 5 makes enemies take 2x as much damage and their explosions hurt you quite a bit. It makes things a lot slower and the drops I got were no better.

There's a new patch coming out today to address poor drop rates in Mayhem mode.

Watch them nerf my gear at the same time :p I even tried the trick of killing the mini bosses in the final fight, dying, and then repeating. The floor was covered in dozens of gold weapons, but no Yellowcakes.

My two Yellowcake drops so far....

I did finally get my hands on a OPQ yesterday and that thing is the bomb!

And this is a new pistol I picked up that is awesome. Hits like a train and switches between electric and fire, it ricochets the other element.

And I guess while I am here, I will finish my current fave loadout. This thing took the place of my Ion RL after it was nerfed.

My Yellowcake is pretty close to the left one. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, but sometimes it literally does no damage at all and the splash range is really specific. One minute it seems super powerful. The next minute it's almost like it's shooting blanks.
With the OPQ, I'm noticing a pattern where it either hits harder (5,500-6,000 x 2) or holds more rounds. The hard hitting ones nearly always have a 22-round magazine. The weaker ones (4,000-4,500) hold 30+ rounds. It would be interesting to see which ends up doing more damage considering the firing rate of this thing.

I have the same experience with the Yellowcake and its damage. Not exactly sure what the deal is either.
