Borderlands 3

Beat the dlc just niw. Boss dropped 3 legendaries for me and they were all the same exact class mod. ...

I got a legendary Atlas rifle yesterday. The rifle fired a bunch of mini smart missiles at a pretty high fire rate, but ended up dropping it because it wasn't quite as good as my current weapons

Good to know that they at least exist. With mine, I don't ever actually use the alt-fire smart bullets. I just love how fast they fire with no recoil. The fact that they shoot further than most snipers and they have a huge magazine is icing on the cake. I have a feeling they meant to balance them by making them weaker per-shot, but you'll occasionally get one with x2 damage (+bonuses) that negates that. Mine is 855 x 2 with a 30% fire-rate increase and a 15% damage boost. I've encountered others that slightly higher damage, but the fire rate or magazine size was lower. IMO, that matters more. Especially if you have a class mod that boosts it even further. Fade + those guns = destruction.

In fighting the Moxxi's boss a few times, I've noticed that he gets progressively tougher if you fight him consecutively. He mainly just seems to absorb way more damage. That might be the case with all bosses, but it's the first time I've noticed it. It doubles the length of the fight and you get the same rewards/

Yeah, I've noticed this happens a lot. Sometimes there are minor differences in them (different bonuses for different gun manufacturers), so they're potentially worth keeping for later.
I've gotten the same "make it rain" emote at least 20 times and it does seem to looooove dropping very similar class mods.

I'm still trying to figure out how boss farming works. Last night I ran into a version of the Moxxi boss that was a crazy bullet sponge. I'd venture he probably took 3-4x more damage than usual. All of the other enemies in the arena, too. It's the only time I've ever died in that fight and it was after 15-minutes of not even getting him to his final life bar.
Yet going back later revealed a much easier version.
Loot drops have seemingly stalled for me overall. After getting 7-8 golds per VIP Tower run, I've only been getting 1-2 lately. Usually lesser versions of stuff I already have, too. I haven't touched the difficulty or changed anything.

Something that I find a little annoying is the Halloween gear retains the "frightened" status effect. I have a couple pieces of gear that are still way better than anything else, but add that unwanted status at random. Without the ghosts and a full set of stuff focused on it, it's pointless. They should just RNG that line for all of your gear that has it.

Finally got a gold Atlas rifle to drop. It's interesting. It only does 537 damage, but it emits a huge wave of enemy-seeking bullets w/ some additional critical-hit damage properties. It doesn't hit nearly as hard as my normal rifle, but it fires 2x as fast. It seems to take most single enemies out at roughly the same speed.
The only real knock on it is that if there are a bunch of enemies around, the bullets seem to flock to them at random instead of just one.
It's a keeper, but a harder hitting one would be more appreciated.
I wish the Heck level was still around. The stuff that dropped there was much higher in level than anything in the Casino or Nektrafeyo. Maybe there's someplace I'm missing, but I don't really know where the level 600'ish stuff is supposed to drop outside of Heck + Mayhem 2-3.

...and after 3 months of running around with the same Atlas rifle I finally got a better one to drop. 933x2 with a 21% weapon damage boost, 21% firing speed boost, 12% critical hit boost, and a 30-round magazine. It fires a tiny bit slower and holds 4 fewer rounds, but is otherwise better than my previous one.

I was on the cusp of gaining a token and decided to try Mayhem 4 on Nekrotafeyo for a little bit. It dropped in the first 5 minutes :p
Oddly, it's still lower level (546) than plenty of other gear I have and was the same level as my previous one with lower stats. I still don't know how that stuff works.

I'm officially done until they either patch the Maliwan Blacksite for solo play (which was delayed), or new DLC drops.

another big problem with borderlands series... after a while, the better weapons.... just stop. not that you have the best, but just nothing better for your build comes along
add to it the continual nerfs....

With Borderlands 3, there isn't much motivation to replay anything right now. "True Vault Hunter" mode is basically just a Mayhem setting that resets all of the story missions. Since they're still releasing DLC, I don't have a desire to restart the story. There aren't a lot of great places to get consistent high-level gold item drops outside of the Casino. Hopefully the Maliwan Blacksite patch arrives soon. That seems like a fun high-level area once they make it more solo'able.

Should be tomorrow.

Only solo-able for two weeks...

From January 16 to January 30, you'll be able to look forward to a slightly easier Takedown as you aim to grab as much of that loot as you can! If you've wanted to experience Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite but were having a hard time making progress or finding a party, this is the perfect opportunity to jump in and wreak havoc on Maliwan's most elite soldiers and robots. After January 30, we're bringing the event back up to its intended difficulty level.

Yipes. Guess I'll have to jump on that ASAP. I find it odd that they kept the Halloween level for a couple months while pulling this after 2 weeks.

Interesting. I got my level 50 Moze to the Blacksite and was murdered by the creatures outside. I was at Mayhem 1. Was going to go back with Mayhem off but it seems I would have gotten a smackdown again. Guess I'll give it another try and see how far I get solo. Still haven't managed to clear all the waves at in SlaughterStar3000 either.

I gave it a shot and ended up giving up. While it's winnable, it's still just a mess of bullet-sponge enemies that do insane damage to you. I found myself running like mad and waiting for my super to regen most of the time. I got to the Valkyries, but ended up dying and quitting. That's about 2/3 of the way. You have to start all over if you die and it's a slog.

Thing is, I got garbage drops from it. Nothing but greens and blues. None were noteworthy and definitely not worth the trouble. Apparently winning the thing only nets you 100k gold and whatever the boss drops. The Jack robot nets you 4x that much cash and gives you at least 4 chests/lockers in addition to his own item drops.

At this point I want to win it to prove a point, but it just wasn't fun. It's mostly chaos and requires that you play pretty lame to survive it.

Yeah, just tried the Maliwon site, the zerg-rush type body spamming is crazy, I spent more time running than actual shooting, fast shield recharge is a must there, and one of the trasnfusion grenades. I was using my Amara build with a shield/health boost relic. And using some of the level 50 Vladoff infinities so I didn't have to waste time reloading/trying to find ammo, down side is low accuracy, especially at a distance. I found that the electrical elemental damage is a lot better than the corrosion damage for most of the enemies, Did get a few orange drops, one was a atlas assault with a damn -70% damage, crap like that makes the weapons useless. Had just 5 orange drops for the whole area.

Damn, just tried the vip tower again, the mini-boss when you enter the tower dropped 2 orange (already had them, tho), and the Jack robot dropped 5! and the chests had one more, plus the shitload of money drops. And I noticed that you get more of your character-specific mods, not exclusively, but a lot more. Be interesting to see how the increase will work tomorrow, hard to beat 7 orange drops in an area. I may just farm Jack for two weeks, but if they don't increase the level cap not sure I want to go through the grind. But the guardian points still do increment.

The VIP tower is easily the best farming spot I've found. The initial mini-boss at the start, Freddy, and the Jack robot all drop rare gear regularly. I think Freddy and the Jack robot always drop at least one. I've seen as many as 5 from the robot and 3 from Freddy. There's also the treasure vault at the end that contains roughly 250K and has 4-5 additional weapon vaults/lockers. Sometimes the normal chests in the Jack robot area have rare stuff, too. If you open them all, you'll net at least another 50K in cash and easily replenish your ammo. You'll even get about a dozen eridium crystals per run, too.
The only downside is that the game mostly dishes out the same Moxxi specific gear over and over there. It can drop almost anything, but I can guarantee at least 2 of my drops each time are the same class mod I've gotten dozens of variations on. Luckily the stats for it are random, so some of them are still worth keeping.

New hotfix out today that buffs the Heist DLC bosses, so VIP tower farming will probably take a hit. They've also given some pretty significant buffs to Moze and Zane and a slight buff for Fl4k. Check out the notes below.

BORDERLANDS 3 HOTFIXES: JANUARY 16, 2020
POSTED: JAN 16 2020

Today we will release a hotfix for Borderlands 3, which will be live on PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and PC by 3:00 PM PST. This hotfix addresses various concerns reported by the community and kicks off the two-week long Takedown Event and Farming Frenzy! To apply hotfixes, wait at the main menu until you see a sign appear! If you are experiencing any issues or want to provide feedback, please submit a ticket to support.2k.com.

TAKEDOWN AT THE MALIWAN BLACKSITE AND FARMING FRENZY!
This week starts the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite event! From when the hotfix goes live today until 8:59 AM PT on January 30, Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite will be scaled to the number of players! During this event, matchmaking will be set up to get you into the Takedown as quickly as possible. The Takedown is no easy feat, so make sure that you’re ready with the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite Quick Guide (keep in mind that this is written for the normal Takedown).

In addition, during the Farming Frenzy mini-event running for the same duration, we’re making a few other changes. Rare Spawn enemies will also show up more often*, and we’re temporarily boosting the Anointed and Legendary drop rates! For the next two weeks, every boss in the game has boosted drop rates, including the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite bosses!

May these two weeks be challenging, rewarding, and full of loot!

*The Debt Collector is excluded from this list, as it’s tied to an achievement!

BUG FIXES
  • Addressed a reported concern with itemcard and hotfix sometimes not showing information correctly
  • Addressed a reported concern that Judge Hightower was sometimes not dropping items from his dedicated item pool
  • Adjusted the balance of Fabrikator, Freddie, ST4NL3Y, Constructor, Tony Bordel, Tricksy Nick, and Third Rail to provide a greater challenge
Developer note – We noticed that the bosses in the Handsome Jackpot weren’t providing players with a satisfying challenge. We’ll be monitoring these bosses and make adjustments as needed in the future.

  • The Ion Cannon now has a 5 second reload and consumes at least 6 ammo per shot
The Ion Cannon is a strong weapon and we don’t want to change that, but it’s a little over performing. We’ve increased the reload time and made it consume more ammo but left its damage unchanged to still provide a strong burst of damage.

  • Added collisions to prevent the Gunner from sometimes becoming stuck in Meridian Mercantile
  • Added collisions to prevent players from sometimes escaping the map in various locations
  • Increased the radius of the New-U station at The Arrogant Approach
INCREASED ANOINTMENT EFFECTIVENESS FOR THE OPERATIVE, GUNNER, AND BEASTMASTER
In looking at the bonuses from Anointments, we felt that some were not providing enough of a bonus. We’ve increased the bonuses on the Anointments below.

Moze the Gunner

  • While Auto Bear is active, deals 75% (from 20%) bonus incendiary damage
  • After exiting Iron Bear, the next 2 magazines will have 125% (from 40%) bonus incendiary damage
  • After exiting Iron Bear, gain 160% (from 120%) increased Splash damage for 18 seconds
  • When entering and exiting Iron Bear, nova damage increased
Zane the Operative

  • While Barrier is active, Accuracy is increased by 60%, and Critical Hit damage is increased by 70% (from 30%)
  • While SNTL is active, gain 100% (from 50%) of damage as bonus Cryo damage
FL4K the Beastmaster

  • When exiting Fade Away, nova damage increased
  • After using Rakk Attack!, gain 50% (from 25%) critical hit damage for a short time

LOL, I figured they might notice that. Get 'em while you can I guess!

I'm not noticing any differences in drop rates or quality. The only thing I've noticed is that Freddy's boss fight got tougher. Not necessarily him, but the waves of bots that show up with him. On Mayhem 4 that fight is legit tough now...or I managed to get that one random instance where everything seems to be tougher.

sad, I kind of liked everything being sort of easy and not grindey/annoying to fight.

I'm trying the Blacksite mission again...and it's randomly not that tough this time? Enemies were taking TONS of damage last time. Now a second or two of concentrated fire and they're toast. I've been going through them like a flaming sword through butter. The difficulty in this game is boggling sometimes. It's almost like it's straight-up random.

If anyone wants to team up for mayhem 4, send me a friend request. I have a pretty sweet Fl4k freeze build that makes short work of most enemies and id like to see how it performs in a group as ive only played solo thus far. I'd also be curious to see how my build teamed with a Zane cryo build would perform. We would probably freeze everything on screen instantly lol.

Epic ID: CephiedX

I stream a bit of game play with the cryo build, but the quality is terrible.

Had a few minutes to play this morning and cleared the Blacksite. Once again, the difficulty seemed to be random. On my first try, the enemies were tough. Not as crazy tough as they were a couple days ago, but tougher than yesterday. I logged out and back in and luckily they were like yesterday. I find that I can tell immediately how bad it's going to be based upon how spongy the turret guard are.
While challenging, it's not too bad when the game isn't on it's super secretly random hard mode.
On the other hand, the boss is a complete hassle. It's pretty clearly designed for groups. As a solo player you're going to be running for your life a lot in the later phases. Luckily Fl4k's Fade does absolutely incredible damage with the right guns. Your beast is straight up worthless in this fight. He isn't even good for reviving you.
I ended up getting 4 rare drops, but only one of them was decent.
I have no plans to ever touch this mission again. I'm glad I was able to overcome it, but that was NOT fun.

I tried it over the weekend and got to the part with the Valkaries and whilst running for my life/shooting-and-moving I ran off the edge of a platform and died. Grrrr.

I think I will pass on attempting again as it does not seem worth the reward. It will bug the part of me that likes to complete all content missions.

Back to farming Athena's Chupacabra and Captain Traunt.

That's what happened to me on Friday. I was doing well and then I fell into a random hole. At that point I was fed up and quit since you have to start all over prior to that point.
Luckily after you beat them you reach a checkpoint. The rest of the level isn't too rough, but there are huge swarms of enemies including those damned rushdown dogs.
As long as you move slowly, you're unlikely to have any major problems with that portion.

The boss is a sonofabitch, though. There are 5 phases to that fight and he can kill you quickly if you don't keep moving. The best hint I can give you is that there's a large gap in his rotating shield for the first 3 phases. Circle around him and use your super to fire through that gap. Kill the enemies around him first before even thinking about shooting him. Phase 4 requires you have to hit him from above. Use whatever your most damaging attack is via the tower closest to him. Run around and keep going back to that one tower. However save your super for the final phase. Once he splits into different parts, go apeshit and kill the flying part first. From there, the other parts aren't that horrible. Just keep running and looking for safe moments to return fire.

The devs have said that the Blacksite level scaling is going to remain permanent. I guess there's a switch you can pull in the middle of the level that brings the older non-scaled difficulty back if you want, though. I have no plans to ever go back there, but that's still good news for those that want to play it.

Right now there is supposedly some kind of event going on that boosts red chest contents, but I haven't noticed any difference. I did the Cistern farm trick a couple times and got nothing but standard blues and purples.

Hopefully there's some new DLC (or a Heck-like event) coming soon.

The Valentine's Day patch is now live. It raises the level cap to 53 (with newly higher leveled weapons) and adds a bunch of floating hearts that explode with status effects or item drops. It's far less profound than the Halloween ghosts, although they make the game easier rather than tougher. On the arena levels like the Cistern of Slaughter, the heart status effect explosions can be pretty helpful vs. huge hordes of enemies. Related to that, the Cistern exploit that allowed you to re-spawn the red chest has been fixed. Not like I got much from it anyway. Apparently there are some exclusive gold Valentine's Day weapons, but I haven't seen 'em thus far. One is a really good sniper, and those are kinda rare.

You mean the one that you get after 100 hearts?

Screenshot00000.png

One of the few Jakobs that haven't been nerfed.

I completed the heart quests pretty quickly and didn't even realize it. The unlocks are under the special events tab.
As part of this patch they nerfed the crap out of my favorite rocket launcher. It's the ION Cannon launcher you get as part of the Moxxi's Heist questline. It used to do 20K+ damage with 1000% blast radius and held 8 rockets at a time. Now it does less damage (around 16K in my case), expends 6 rockets per shot, and no longer has the huge blast radius either. The reload time is slow as hell and your movement speed is 1/2'd while carrying it. I get toning it down a little, but it's borderline trash now.

does this game offer up anything new or is it pretty much Borderlands 2.5?

It's definitely still Borderlands. It's running on a new engine and the characters are all different from previous games. It's as big of a jump as most other sequels out there. Yet if you didn't love the earlier ones this one won't change your mind.

best concise review on the 'net would read again A+++++++

I need to fire up BL3 and try the latest changes/additions.

Anyone else have issues with their inventory since the patch? When you tab to inventory and go to your backpack/stash tab on the right I can no longer use the mouse. If I hover any item it doesnt give me the stats and if I click on any item it sells the first one in the list (at vending machine). I have to use the mouse/keyboard to do any movements or visuals. The equipped section on the left is just fine. Tried the Maliwan black site finally, beat it M1 and it took a while to navigate and stat compare due to this. Pre patch, no problems.

Same issue here. Luckily I was mostly just selling everything that dropped anyway. In the meantime, a way to at least make things partially work is to use left Alt to toggle between views in the vending machine. That usually makes the rows shift around.
