I'll try them tomorrow when my first 5830 shows up, but I'll have no reference to base them on besides the numbers from the wiki.

i have a 5830 number i can give you
stock clock radeon 5830 Xtreme: with
-v -f60 -w128
~260

I'm definitely not upgrading, I'm running the ATI-Stream-SDK v2.1 in both rigs and each miner got a 10MH/s bump up after downgrading from v2.4, I'll update everything when I'm done mining...

How did you get SDK 2.1 to work?

Good luck getting anyone to stop their miners before the difficulty change lol. Every share counts! :D

Yeah I'm so bummed about the lost time at btcguild. I'm guessing I lost 2 bitcoins with their connectivity problems.

Can't wait for my 5830's to arrive. Even with the insane difficulty increase, at least I'll have 10 days of even more productive mining.

A 5830 will continue to be over $5 a day with the new difficulty even if bitcoin drops to $15.

this is pretty sweet. getting about 1.3 a day on dual eyefinity6 cards in cfx

I picked up a buddy's PC tonight to do some work on it for him. His 9800GT died, so he bought a new video card from Newegg. However, it's not working at all for him, so he wants me to test it in my system.

He somehow managed to snag one of the Sapphire HD5830s based solely on looking at Tom's GPU hierarchy chart and the fact that it was cheaper than the Nvidia card in the same tier. This 5830 will help make up for my 5870 being down, and my own 5830 should be here in a day or two.

Are we into the new difficulty level now? The rate in which I am generating shares seems to have slowed greatly.

mines going real slow now too. i think it has something to do with btcguild being down or something. only getting 180Mh/s when i normally get 360Mh/s. are you using btcguild too?

How exactly does the difficulty affect the MH/s?
by the 1.51x, do you mean I would drop from 330MHs to about 168MH/s?

difficulty will not affect the Mh/s.
it will change how long it takes to find blocks.
It looks like BTCG will change their reporting so each block processed is reported as two
don't know if that means they will be altering other stats.
only thing that would cause your actual Mh/s to drop is if the server is not able to feed you enough blocks fast enough, to where you enter an idle state.

holy crap, looks like namecoins have jumped 5x in value the past day.
LOL, screw bitcoins, namecoins are the way to go now.
and yeah, i'll be hoarding mine. :)

I don't get the purpose of namecoins; what purpose do they serve compared to bitcoins? From what I can see, they are used to register domains or something?

Tried finding info on namecoins as well and hadn't a clue as to what they were really talking about, but then again I just learned about bitcoins.

running namecoin:

copy the following into C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Namecoin\bitcoin.conf
rpcuser=xxx
rpcpassword=xxx
rpcport=9332

download and run the namecoin software (namecoind)

get your address by running namecoind with the following command:

E:\namecoin>namecoind listreceivedbyaddress 0 true
{
"address" : "XXXKEYXXX",
"account" : "",
"label" : "",
"amount" : xxx,
"confirmations" : 14
},

start your dataminer but point it to bitparking, use your address as the user
ie:
poclbm.exe -d0 --user XXXKEYXXX --pass anything --host bitparking.com --port 9098 -v -w128

collect your stats/pay http://bitparking.com/user/XXXKEYXXX

unlike the other guilds you don't need an account.
you can also try mining for blocks directly, but I estimate average will take 2 days @ 370Kh

command for that is poclbm.exe -d0 --port=9332 --user=xxx --pass=xxx -v -w128

You can pay to register .bit domain names with them, and you can trade them, and you can mine them. But something useful? No, not really.

just a bit curious about this bitcoin mining thing.

I have a 5830 and gtx 260 c216,would it be worth selling them or just mining on them,I mean bitcoin has pushed the prices up.If I sold them,could I be losing more than I would be gaining?

Mine on the 5830, sell the 260, and in a month when a bunch of people give up bitmining, buy a second 5830 dirt cheap and crossfire them.

What a ridiculously volatile market on mtgox. 100% pure speculation with hardly any market depth, dollar plus swings hour to hour in value....

No company will accept this currency as payment, not in a million years unless you see some serious stabilization in "value". And that will never happen with $300k USD volume in trades day to day, but only $30,000 in market depth for an entire dollar range. A single individual with a little bit of capital can easily cause multiple dollar rallies at this moment.

Alright, so I am going to give it a whirl for a week and see what I come up with. So let me see if I got this right....

I have 2 computers that will be folding, I only need Bitcoin and the wallet on one PC, the other miner on another computer will just need to be tied to the same account BTC Guild. GUIMiner is running on both computers:
5850 - 250 Mhash/s
6950 - 320 Mhash/s

Speculators aren't bad, they are the only way this thing can get off the ground. All we need are a ton of speculators getting invested, a bunch of vendors "speculatively" accepting bitcoins for their services, and BOOM suddenly the speculation disappears because tons of people actually use the currency and it is accepted in many locations all over the net.

That's it. Just need vendors to "speculate" to get us started.

while big vendors like Newegg and Amazon don't accept bitcoins (for now), there is a way to shop at those sites and spend bitcoins instead of "real" money, that's a start, as long as there's a will there's a way...

How did you get SDK 2.1 to work?

I did an AMD driver uninstall but did custom, then selected just the SDK related stuff, uninstalled and then installed v2.1 that I downloaded from the earlier link in this thread, then checked with GPUCapsViewer...

21.jpg

both machines on v2.1, the difference won't matter to some, but I'm on the low end of the mining (~550MH/s), so and extra 30MH/s (10MH/s on each GPU) is actually pretty substantial to me...

my 5850 now gets ~360MH/s at 936/312 and still stays under 60°...

for those of you trying to buy cards for this (not that I recommend it), make sure you search 5850 as well as 5830 on the FS forum, there are a few 5850s there that are better deals than the 5830s...

I had absolutely no luck in installing 2.1. uninstalled the CL drivers, installed 2.1, uninstalled, ran drive clean, deleted various folders, uninstalled ati. all cases the GPU viewer shows it installed but can't access it as a driver... :(

I did that and it didn't work. GuiMiner says no opencl devices found for me. What Catalyst version are you using?

I ran into the same issues. Might have something to do with the catalyst version.

Catalyst 10.12 (11-25-2010)...

are these pretty much teh best drivers for mining? I don't want to put old drivers on my gaming rig but if they are better I'll put them on the dedicated boxs.

I don't think the drivers would matter inasmuch as sdk version. I was using 10.10e with SDK 2.2. I'll try 10.12 to see if I can get SDK 2.1 to work when I get home from work

ive heard at least on linux that sdk 2.1 works better for mining

so im getting about 300mh/s with all my cards (sadly 1 ati the rest are nvidia) and according to btc guild im up to 0.75bitcoins in about 3 days... is that right? or should i be getting more.... im a totaly noob to this looks like i should be getting about 1 ever 4-5 days so 5-6 a month @ 20 (current value) = $100

i cant believe teh market finally settled down. No more doubling your money in an hour QQ.

At least if the price remains stable more places will be willing to accept it.
