Bitcoin Discussion Thread Part 2

I just pointed a couple crappy CPU miners at that pool, and it looks like they're the same size as Notroll's smallest adaptive shares, so I might keep a few miners there.

The share difficulty is small (16).

hey guys what's up

I'm trying litecoin and it seems my hashrate is slower than it should be, what might be wrong?

I'm getting 530's on my 7970s that are clocked at 1115. On bitcoin I am getting 665-695 clocked at 1115.

I'm using the same stats as;

start /D "R:\cgminer_litecoin_netcodepool" cgminer.exe --scrypt -o netcodepool.org:8337 -u xxx -p xxx -d 0 -d 1 -d 2 -d 3 --thread-concurrency 8192 --shaders 2048 --intensity 13 --worksize 256 -g 2

7970s require a 0.5757575757.. core/memory ratio with LTC. So if your core is clocked at 1115MHz, your memory needs to be 1936MHz. I'd start off with 1007/1750 first as not a lot of 7970s can overclock high on the memory.

Everything else looks good other than that. :)

^ this, beat me to it. at 1087/1875 both my cards hash at 730kh/s with 1080mv (696w total system draw)

what is going on with the invasion pool?? every time I try to connect it takes like 15 seconds longer to connect to the stratum than GMLTC's stratum, and then I can mine there for about, oh, 30-60 seconds before I get huge blocks of rejects and dropped connection.

frustrating because its advertised as having low stales and good uptime ...

That's odd...I had to restart a system earlier today and a worker did 50697 shares and I had 652 stales...1.2%

Yeah my point is I can't even get a stable connection to it, just wanted to see if there was something different about running invasion pool's stratum vs, say, GMLTC's stratum. I mean, I just changed the url address to the invasion stratum and it 'works'.. but lags hard and then drops me everytime...

(obviously i also changed my worker names in litecoin.conf files.. durhh)

You guys are awesome, it works, what a difference that makes :D.

Are you guys bumping your mem voltages at all? I have the Sapphire cards with default mem voltages of 1500mv. I can hit 1680-1700 on the mem clocks at stock, 1710+ and I get lockups. I noticed some of the 7970s have 1600mv default.

he was having issues with the server. I was getting 20% stales. He said he rebooted it but I'm not able to try it again right now.

What's a good ratio for the 7950? Also what are you guys using to OC? I'm using the saphire cards and currently getting between 530-580 khash/s

I'd like to know as well...ive got two different brands of cards and ive been playing here and there with the settings and it seems like im unable to stably OC up to 650Mh anymore. I haven't messed with voltage any (though I have low ASIC values so I probably need to), but the best ive managed is 580Mh with default memory and 950 on the GPU clock.

Anybody know where to get (or have spares) a few 1x to 16x extender cables & a few standard 16x to 16x extender cables?

Check out Cablesaurus.com. They accept LTC and BTC as well as USD. Unforunately they're on backorder for about 3 weeks right now, really high demand.

I ordered mine about 2 weeks ago and still won't get them for another month. I emailed them about it and asked to at least get shipping knocked off for the delay. They responded pretty quickly offering to refund my shipping, upgrade my shipping, and throw in a couple extra PCIe extenders as well. I'd say that's pretty kickass service.

ratio for 7950 is 0.64 i believe

My only problem with getting those is that I want powered ones. While they may not be needed, I don't have a problem paying a little extra/waiting a little longer to ensure safety and stability. My rigs are down in the basement where its nice and cool and surrounded by wood...if something goes poof, I may not get to them before they fry the rigs or, worst case scenario, start a fire.

Thanks for the options! I ordered a few cables, and should be getting some more cards over the next little while to put to work. I got them in the basement also, else those things sure heat up.

So.. what pools are still up that people here are using? I tried connecting to coinotron last night because invasionnetwork was/is down...

I am hashing LTC @ coinotron right now because last night both INpool and GMLTC were giving me trouble.

Any advice on how to get 6 7950's to work on a MSI Z77A-G45? Right now Linux is only seeing 4.

xubuntu 12.10 with all fgrlx packages installed and updated.

How many of the cards appear using the 'lspci' command?

I don't know about the MSI motherboard, but I've had luck in the past getting multiple cards recognized by the PCI bus by underclocking the northbridge. Sometimes you can get certain riser cables that are bad as well.

update sorry been really busy.

Got all 6 cards working. It appears some of the power plugs for the powered risers were not seated all the way.

Now I just have to figure out why cgminer keeps disabling the video cards when I use --thread-concurrency 21712 (or any number above 1,000)

Maybe needs more voltage?

netcodepool.org:3333

Stratum, beast server, all the goods.

Why post the same link in 2 different threads?

Anyways, it appears that there is no reason to panic, Unless you had a bunch of funds wrapped up in Dwolla, which shouldn't have been left there in the first place. MTGox didn't do anything wrong. Dwolla filled out Federal forms incorrectly (and from the looks of the questions, blatantly) and got busted for it. Since they're based in the US, they fall under US Federal law. Looks like they're screwed now.

People see "MTGox", "US Dept. Homeland Security", "Warrant", "seized" and I guess figure it's all over. *shrug*

^ read the article again... Mark is the CEO of mt. gox, not dwolla. Mt gox failed to file its LLC under the correct form of business, and are therefore in trouble, if the govt can define BTC as a currency, that is.

The CEO of mt. gox was also using a us based wells fargo account for the LLC according to the article.

I got myself a 2nd 7950. I currently have some weak 500watt PSU in my case, so I am powering the 2nd card through another power supply with a paperclip to turn it on. I installed the 2nd card and I can't seem to get it to work. I have reinstalled the drivers, but other than that I'm not entirely sure where to start. The card doesn't appear anywhere in Windows. I don't see any options in my BIOS for the PCI express slots. I've tried reseating it multiple times. I'm wondering if for some reason jump starting the PSU is the problem? the fan on the card spins up when the computer turns on... All cables are tight, card is snapped in. Really not sure why this isn't working...
