Bitcoin Discussion Thread Part 2

what tweaks do you have for the 6950s?
i have around 365-375 for my unlocked ones on guiminer at 850 and 880

I meant the ones I already posted. These apparently give better results on Cayman based cards than on Cypress ones. I have no other way to explain the gains I got on my 6970s (currently at ~460MH/s)

I have unlocked shaders, core 900, mem 500, stock voltage, and I am using Phoenix/poclbm(with the tweaks posted a page or two back)

VECTORS BFI_INT AGGRESSION=10 WORKSIZE=128 DEVICE=0 FASTLOOP=false

Gets me 397mhash between 62-70C.

I'm getting 378 mhash/s with my 5850 at 925/300 on each cards. 6950 are more expensive per mhash than a 5850 is right now. If newegg starts dropping open box 5850 below 100 when everyone dumps their cards, might be worth it to pick some up. I have another spare computer with 2 open pci-e slots available.

ill try that with 11.7 and sdk 2.5 right now

Most people misuse AGGRESSION. Don't think of it as a volume knob, think of it more as a tuning dial. You just have to try all levels to see what gives you the best return on your particular hardware. The same goes for Powertune, increasing it by a couple % points can and does prevent throttling when overclocked.

What BTCGuild said is that they squashed a botnet. Then in retaliation they DDosed them. I would assume that the hash rate of that botnet was quite large for it to be discovered. So this could mean a difficulty decrease if it was large enough to effect it.

ohh i see, btw where is sdk 2.5? i have 11.7 installed and did the phatk tweak, getting like 2% more lol

i think im going to try and flash my reference to another bios
any 6970 bios you guys recommend? the reference is at 850 unlocked and the twin frozr is at 880
ill try and change the voltage, since the twin frozr is at 1100 in AB

MSI Reference 6950---> to 6970
1000mV
850
1300
=371Mhash

Reference 6950twin frozr---> to 6970 sapphire i believe
1100mV
880
500
=375Mhash haha

5770s at 900 core and everything else at stock at ~200 each, im going to see how high i can get them

Cool, The same thing was happening over at deepbit They had a botnet doing ~4Ghash there.

Hopefully BTCGuild is backup by Friday when I get my new card. Watching the market has nearly given me a heart attack over the past day or two and I'm ready to get in on it! lol

hmmm great time to buy, last week i bought at $13 each and sold for 17
30% profit was nice haha

Ya it's back up to $14.25 now from the $11.2 low today, but that was just an artificial bid wall

damn this is why i wish my funds would transfer sooner haha, ill deposit some soon lol

Nothing really helps. The best they can do at stock clocks is ~100MH/s, just make sure NOT to use BFI_INT nor VECTORS since those actually decrease hash rate.

I'm currently at 95MH/s without any flag and i'm looking for some ways to push it to 100MH/s,couldn't overclock my GPU anymore due to high temp and lots of artifact.

What flag should i use then? Please enlighten me as i'm totally clueless about this. :D

-v is the flag for Vector, isn't it?

I'm peaking at 95 with some spike up to 97MH/s,putting these flags gave no increased performance.

4Ghash would be a lot for a CPU botnet (and certainly a lot of extra connections/requests for the servers to handle), but it certainly wouldn't be a something that would affect difficulty to any great degree. I mine with 2Ghash with just the GPUs in my apartment...

From what I hear on the BTCGuild chat, it was generating 800BTC a month. That's like what ~35Ghash?

Would anyone running phoenix in guiminer with any kernel test something for me?

- Close all open programs.
- Start mining with whatever regular flags you have but use AGGRESSION=7, note the hash rate.
- Open firefox or any other browser you use and log into your g-mail or hotmail account, or go to the main newegg.com page or open youtube and play any video. Note the hash rate.

Did it decrease? If so by how much?

If it decreased, close the browser and note the hashrate again. Did it go back up?
I'm trying to confirm flash is the culprit here.
Thanks

How do you enable powertune. Mine is greyed out.

Power Control only applies to the 6XXX series. Anything before that didn't have any sort of power limiting.

For those running 6XXX series cards, I would highly recommend just cranking Power Control up to +20%. All you're doing is increasing the limit of the amount of power the card is allowed to draw. Setting it to +20% should guarantee that your card won't throttle due to power draw.

Do you have hardware acceleration disabled in Flash?

See my problem is I can't get the control center to allow me anything above the default OC of like 840 core on my 6950. Any way around this? If I uncheck the AMD Overdrive does that disable powertune?

You don't even know how many people on the Bitcoin forum think that's how you overclock, just changing the powertune setting!

Are you sure it's flash and not Firefox. After firefox 4, it uses the gpu to load webpages. This can be verify if you have crossfire. Usually one gpu would be idle/off but loading firefox, both gpu would be in usage.

+1 Most of the people in the official forums know very little about their hardware.

I've noticed that even in guiminer's native mining software. YouTube in Chrome or IE whacks it by about 15-20%.

Get yourself some MSI Afterburner and enable unofficial overclocking. It's a little bit of a PITA to get it setup initially because setting an overclock in Afterburner will reset Power Control, then resetting Power Control will drop your clocks back to the max in CCC. It takes a few tries for everything to set correctly.

Yup, it happens even if you launch phoenix through the command prompt. At least I know I'm not alone in seeing this, thanks.

So what are your steps for setting Power Control to +20% when overclocking with Afterburner? Have you tried just setting UnofficialOverclockingMode to 2 which completely disables Power Play?

Also, is anyone here running a 6990? MSI Afterburner refuses to lower the memory clocks for mine. It will let me apply the lower memory speed but if I scroll down to view the speed in the Hardware Monitor window it is still 1250Mhz.

I did not know setting it to 2 disabled the power tune. And oddly enough in the threads I read trying to get the overclocking in the afterburner to work, no one mentioned it.

Well I haven't tried setting it to 2 but that's what the guide to enabling unofficial overclocking mode in Afterburner says it will do.

Set UnofficialOverclockingMode to 1 to keep PowerPlay active (may not work on old ASICs), 2 to traditionally disable PowerPlay or to 0 to temporary disable unofficial overclocking path

I'm also wondering if Force constant voltage under Afterburner settings won't do the same thing as well.

It disables Power Play, not Power Control. Setting it to 2 just keeps it locked to the loaded 3D speeds at all times (doesn't drop the speeds when idling).

I see that now. the latest afterburner 2.2.0 beta 5 mentions something about power tuning though. I've installed that and now I'm upgrading to the 11.7 preview to see what happens.
