Bitcoin Discussion Thread Part 2

It disables Power Play, not Power Control. Setting it to 2 just keeps it locked to the loaded 3D speeds at all times (doesn't drop the speeds when idling).

What about the Force constant voltage setting in Afterburner?

I see that now. the latest afterburner 2.2.0 beta 5 mentions something about power tuning though. I've installed that and now I'm upgrading to the 11.7 preview to see what happens.

That would be sweet. I'd love to not have to install CCC and be able to use Afterburner for everything.

What about the Force constant voltage setting in Afterburner?

Dunno. Give it a shot and see what it does. As far as I know, though, there's currently no way to adjust Power Control outside of CCC.

Alright. So I installed the afterburner beta, but didn't see anything in the settings that jumped out at me. Then I installed the 11.7 preview only to find there's no xp driver. So I installed the 11.6 again but it seems to have kept the 2.5 APP or whatever it's called.

So it seems like setting the OC in afterburner is reflected in the CCC and turning up the Power Tune does not cancel out an OC. I think I had to apply and readjust Afterburner, then reopen the CCC or something.

Sorry I'm kind of out of it today. But it's working it seems. Now I'll have to mess with some OC'ing later tonight. I need to try that shader unlock too. There's one out there (don't have the link right now) that lets you unlock just the shaders for a non-reference 6950. It's been confirmed working... something like the Wizzzard install or method.

Well i installed the latest beta 5 of Afterburner and I seem to of gotten my lower memory clocks and +20% Power Control through CCC working together. Now if I could just figure out how to keep the GPU usage of both these 6990 cores pegged at 99% instead of fluctuating between 90-99% usage. Changing the aggression level to -f1 instead of -f10 doesn't seem to help much and just makes the computer less usable.

Ha, were in stock! I was just about to pull the trigger on 3 of 'em, too.

Ive just been trolling the FS/FT section and harassing everyone there to drop their prices while newegg had em in stock.. Still cant get them to hit that 110$ mark, but gettin close :) .. Plus, Id rather help out some [H]'rs trying to get rid of them than newegg raping people with their like 15% restocking fees..

I do Tradehill or Mtgox to Dwolla, Dwolla to bank account. It takes 2-3 business days. Not sure if there is a faster way.

But paying for an engagement ring with Btc profits is pretty bamf :)

Well, if you sell on TradeHill, you can do a same day bank transfer for $25. Pretty sure they have a $1000/day limit on withdrawals, though.

Which charges less? Mtgox or tradehill? And does dwolla cost money or no?

Nice. I'm at 920MH/s (~460MH/s per card) @950Core.

I've been doing quite a bit of testing today on my 6990 with all of the mentioned kernel tweaks and I still don't understand how your getting 460MH/s per card at only a 920Mhz core clock. Are you using the 11.7 drivers with the 2.5 SDK? What does the rest of your rig look like besides the 6970's?

I also see this guy here is advertising getting 432-455Mh/s per core on his 6990's clocked at 910Mhz core 840Mhz mem:

http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=25798.0

There has got to be a difference somewhere outside of just these couple of kernel tweaks and using the latest version of GUIMiner with the flags mentioned because my 6990 at 920Mhz core is getting 406Mh/s per core.

only 13%

not the 40% meme insisted on

next jump is predicted to be 10%

I was busy doing holiday stuff this weekend, so I didn't bother to put my RMAed HD5870 back in yet. I noticed yesterday that my temp display was lower than normal, which generally means my GPUs aren't doing much. Investigated, and discovered that BTCGuild was being DDoSed, so I switched back to solo while the pool servers were down.

Four hours later, I got my second solo block. That puts me at ~10BTC from the pool and ~100BTC solo. I've gotten way lucky on this. I already cashed out a few BTC to cover the costs of the video cards I picked up, and I've still got 102BTC that will be pure profit.

Now I just need to figure out when I want to sell them...

Read the quoted post again. I said 920Mhash/s with 2x 6970s. Two (2) rigs with one 6970 each, doing ~460Mhash/s at 950Mhz Core clock. 11.6WHQL - Vista 64

Let me quote myself here:

Most people misuse AGGRESSION. Don't think of it as a volume knob, think of it more as a tuning dial. You just have to try all levels to see what gives you the best return on your particular hardware. The same goes for Powertune, increasing it by a couple % points can and does prevent throttling when overclocked.
I think I spent more than 4 hours testing all possible combinations of AGGRESSION, WORKSIZE, FASTLOOP, Powertune settings, etc. etc. to arrive at the optimal for my hardware. There is no single settings recipe, it's all about trial and error.

P.S: If that seems extreme, for me it really isn't 'cause I do something similar for a living (Tissue & Cell Biologist). I do hundreds of reps using different catalysts, reagent ratios, etc. etc., this stuff is just second nature to me.

P.P.S: Wow that 5850 didn't last long lol: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...121375R&cm_re=hd_5850-_-14-121-375R-_-Product

Sorry, I meant 950Mhz Core clock on your 6970's. Still though even with my 6990 OC'd to 950Mhz core I'm getting 418-419Mh/s which is around 41Mh/s less than you and like you I've tested a wide range of different flags and OC settings. Powertune doesn't seem to be coming into play either because at the moment with Phoenix my GPU usage is pegged at 99% and neither my core frequency or voltage budges in Afterburner.

So its gotta be something else as to reason why you as well as that other guy I linked with the 6990's and basically the same settings is getting quite a bit higher Mh/s on your 69XX cards.

The difficulty has gone up an average of 40% each 2 weeks for the past year and a half. However, that's the average, there have been a number of times where the difficulty only went up 15% or less. So the 15% difficulty increase we just had doesn't mean that the overall pattern is broken.

It's kind of like the people who say, "Man, is it cold today! So much for global warming!"

Bad analogy......science says we haven't had warming in the last decade...we're cooling.

I'd recommend not flashing your 6950 to a 6970 BIOS. Instead, edit your 6950 BIOS to unlock shaders.

The only way that average will continue is if , the price sky rockets or we have another monumental breakthrough in gear, like when GPU's were brought into use. I don't see either happening.

so im averaging 380 and 390 for basically stock 6970 speeds, pretty nice.
someone can try these if they wish
-v -f2 -w128 on guiminer, they give me the most speeds

Out of curiousity, what CPU/Mobo are you guys using that are getting higher hash rates on your 69XX cards??

i dont think mine is high but here is my spec
i7 920 @ stock
24GB DDR3
60GB SSD
Gigabyte UD4P EX58

The difficulty has gone up an average of 40% each 2 weeks for the past year and a half.

except that the average isn't 40%, and a year and a half ago the total network hashing power was 9.6MH/s, which is roughly equivalent to one Phenom II X4.

see for yourself, grab the nethash records and start at 1263250117
Code:
 awk -F"," 'BEGIN{d=1;t=0;av=0;avsum=0;kk=0} $2>(t+1209600) && $5>d {print strftime("%a %b %e %H:%M:%S %Z %Y",$2), $5,av; av=($5/(d))-1;avsum+=av;d=$5;t=$2;kk++} END {print avsum/kk}' nethash

It's kind of like the people who say, "Man, is it cold today! So much for global warming!"

That's a pretty mean thing to say about meme.

They both charge a pretty low fee. Dwolla does cost money, but I think it's only like 25 cents per transaction.

I was under the impression that you wanted your money out quickly, though. If you don't already have a Dwolla account, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole process took you a week and a half to get your money out.

Open Dwolla account
Link Dwolla account to bank account (2-3 days for the verification transactions to show up in your bank account)
Sell coins on exchange of choice
Transfer money from exchange to Dwolla (3-4 days)
Transfer money from Dwolla to bank account (3-4 days)

Is anyone else here who's running crossfire getting really high cpu usage?

I was running one 6950, and cpu use was at 0-3%. Now I installed another today and it's at 25% per card, so 50% cpu usage. This seems to be a common problem on the bitcoin forums, but I coudn't find an answer. Right now I've just got both miners CPU affinity set to the same core, so overall CPU use is 25% (100% of core 0).

Anybody here know how to fix this problem??

No known fix, as far as I know. I believe it's a known OpenCL bug.

Thank you! I've been messing around with flags for a while now and most of the common ones mentioned didn't really do anything. I found I got the best results using no flags at all.

6970 @ 960MHz with no flags gives about 370Mhash/s

Using -v -f2 -w128 each one jumps up to just over 420Mhash/s :D

Out of curiousity, what CPU/Mobo are you guys using that are getting higher hash rates on your 69XX cards??

I see where you are going with that, hmm. I have an ASUS P6T Deluxe, and IIRC ASUS is known for running their PCI-e clocks slightly higher offspec. Still, I don't think that is the answer because it just so happens that I underclocked my i7-920 back to stock 2.66Ghz from the 3.8Ghz I had it before and I'm still getting the same hash rate.

Getting 390 on my new 6970, oc'd to 950, with 2% voltage increase. No flags seem to make a difference, except-f2, which takes my rate initially up over 400, but falls back down to 380-390.

Jeezus.. WTF is that -f2 flag??
Sent my 6950@6970 from 400 to 475.. It took me 3 days of tuning to get that kind of gain just to get it to 400.

Is there some kind of guide for all the flags ant what they do??
I also currently need some help setting up the failover flag..

Have 2 GPUs as same Miner on Deepbit, want them both to failover to BitClocker as same miners

Yeah, it's all about finding what works for your particular card. Mine tops out at this using a completely different AGGRESSION value:
image2md.jpg

But it isn't really that stable:

So I tweak things down a bit to get a stable ~460MH/s

How do you setup solo mining? I'm thinking right now would be a good time to solo until btcguild gets their crap together.
