Bioshock jips Widescreen

Works for me. 1920x1200 and I get no cropping. Everything runs ok even with 8XQ MSAA and 16XAF with all high settings on XP. 8800GTX @ 615/1900

No it doesn't work for you, or anyone, including 360 owners. It's hard coded, and needs a patch. No amount of config tweaking fixes it either.

lol chill out. I'm just saying that I get full screen even though it is a bit distorted. Not entirely happy but truthfully I am so desperate for ANYTHING new that doesn't suck on PC I am reasonably happy with the game as is.

its cropped dude just look at the thread link. you are losing viewable area top to bottom while retaining the same width as non widescreen. didnt they test the game on a feakin widescreen monitor before releasing it???

Again, yes it is cropped and I do have to look around more but at least it runs fine at high settings and doesn't suck. My expectations are certainly lower after a year of abuse during which the only decent FPS released has been friggin Stalker lol. Just thankful for ANY new blood that isn't craptastic. Sucks that it's come to this but hopefully they will fix this shit soon.

Why is it necessarily the widescreen mode that's wrong? You could just as easily argue that the widescreen mode is correct and the 4:3 mode has the wrong field of view.

Right sod this, I'm adding myself to the list of people who are canceling my order until this is fixed, usualy this wouldn't be enough to push me over the edge but I'm still fuming about the extra 3 day wait we have for release in the UK.

They need to learn, loss in the sales is the only voice we have that they will ever take seriously, I'm exercising mine.

But wouldn't you have more leverage if you already paid money for the game, then started complaining.

I'm pissed too, and I feel they owe me more because I already paid my money for the game.

So? Yes I read that, and it doesn't answer the question, it just suggests the lead dev isn't sure how the widescreen mode on his own game works, or that the mode has changed since that quote.
If you have two monitors which are the same physical width but one's 16:9 and the other's 4:3, should you have a wider horizontal fov on the widescreen monitor?
What is the "correct" fov? Surely that's up to the designers, and I doubt they're all using 4:3 monitors. If what we're seeing is wrong, I expect they'll fix it. If not, some people need to get over the preconceived idea that widescreen = wider horizontal fov.

yeap.

Also movies do this a lot too.

You raise a good point. If 16:10 monitors were considered the norm and 4:3 monitors were called "tallscreens" then this particular FOV choice would seem perfectly natural.

There's a "fix" detailed here.

Elizabeth's "I'm looking into its" are typically worth less than nothing. You can tell by Elios' shots that this cropping method was very much intentional. What's surprising is that 360 users also have to deal with the same nonsense.

360 users and PC users on an equal playing field? Gasp! An industry first!

it doesnt work i just tryed it my self as have others on widescreengaming

its an edit to the the startup.ini to add the line fov 120 to the top and doesnt work

I am not sure if I am going to open up the box and install the game or take it back.
this is disappointing.

And as for widescreen, we also want to say we completely understand a user's desire to augment their FOV. BioShock is a harrowing experience, but we don't want anyone to feel limited (or motion sick!). So we are in the process of working on an official PC patch to give widescreen PC users a choice to expand their horizontal FOV, and are investigating creating a similar update for the 360.

And finally, I want to personally congratulate Racer_S from the Widescreen Gaming Forums, and his awesome user patch to expand the widescreen FOV in BioShock. I'm currently tracking him down via email, but hopefully, he'll accept my gratitude, and maybe an Nvidia 8800 to boot.

how the hell do you use the hack? the 1.1v I have vista 64bit and it doesn't work! where do I put the config shit? or can someone please walk me through how to do this? the readme doesn''t help

I didn't notice any issues while I was playing the demo. But Im just not that sensitive to this kind of stuff. Played fine for me 1680x1050 vista/32 and G80GTS320 pretty much as maxed out as I could get it (AA down maybe, dont remember).

I believe atm the hack only works if you are running the game in dx9.

you have to start the game with "-dx9" in the command line, it doesnt work in dx10 yet.
