Yea stupid dev crew, why couldnt they drop in shader code from 4 years ago, im sure its super easy....say...you wanna do it?

Incase anyone didnt notice this game is Nvidia backed.

ofcourse its nvidia backed! THE WAY ITS MEANT TO BE PLAYED!

nvidia PR guy: make the game shader model 1.4 so performance isnt killed on the FX series
dev: *checks pay slip that nvidia PR guy just slipped under the table* says ok.

Okay, tell me how old 1.4 is then? Its possible on the 8500 after all. Your point is useless. Its a simple fact that they were lazy. Its a sad thing. I'm a gamer before I'm a tech head, and I hate it when a dev is lazy about this crap, or likes the royality check they're getting to much.

BTW: Have you played HL2 on a GF4? It still looks damn good, for a card that only supports a 4 year old shader method.

Simple fact: It could have been included, and I'll bet it is at some point.

It couldnt of. You're absolutly wrong. After ps1.3 microsoft changed something key, heres a piece of tech jargen, see if you can understand:
The texture registers for 1.4 pixel shaders should be thought of as texture coordinate registers since they can only contain read-only texture coordinates. This means that the data in the texture register is not color data as in previous pixel shader versions.

Problem? They'd have to rewrite alot more shader code as opposed to just downscaling like 3.0 and 2.0 can do in current games. Or even 3.0 and 1.4 such as what Splinter Cell does. You act like its a simple act of laziness that could of been done simply and care free. Its not that simple. First off the game is going to require a rather hefty amount of memory and a decent CPU, something newer then 3 years old. Next, PS 1.x-1.3 are different enough from 1.4, 2.x, 3.x that they did not feel like coding an additional shader path for another year in order to let computer users running cards that date back 3+ years run the game shitty. Which they would do. Blame Nvidia for not supporting it when the R200 coming out was. It was a standard they opted out of. I think its great they went the extra mile to support PS1.4 let alone 1.1. If you're looking for someone to blame, blame Nvidia. Its not DICE's fault they didnt put it in their cards when microsoft set the standard back in 2002. So Nvidia's massive oversite should be corrected by every game developer? Again, if someone wants to play it.....spend another what, 70 dollars? Oh no! God forbid they have to upgrade their 3-4 year old graphics card!

And god bless them for it! Someone has to watch out for me. I can't afford a new card so someones got to make sure I can still run it on my humble 5900xt.

Yup. PS 1.4....which the Radeon 8500 has over the GF4. Is this a sign of things to come with SM 3.0 or will things be different? I hope the latter. :)

LMAO

probably VERY close to the truth, and this from the company pushing the envelope with including PS3.0 on their cards

The Geforce 4 MX's were just slightly souped up Geforce 2 MX 400's.

No they weren't. They were the GF2 with a clock speed bump and nothing more.

The GF2MX was a hacked up GF2 with half the memory bus, half the pipes.
Actually, this is not entirely correct:

Instead, the NV17 would basically be a GeForce2 MX with an improved memory controller, multisample AA unit, and updated video features; another way of looking at it would be the GeForce3 without two pixel pipelines or DirectX 8 compliance.

I stand corrected. Alot of reviewers of the day said it was the GF2 core that was clocked faster. Where as the MX only had one texture unit per pipeline and half the memory bus.

Either way you look at it, the card is a POS, but not as bad a POS as the FX 5200 is today.

Why is there such a problem with this card not accepting the GF4? The cards are 4 years old. You can pick up a 9600 PRO for under $50 now. I think it's safe to say that if the minimum requirements are 1.7 GHz P4, the person can afford to upgrade if they haven't bought a new PC in 5 years.

The Geforce 4 Ti 4600 was a damn good card in the day. The fact that it's usefull at all today is amazing.

But seriously, that card is old, and for the latest and greatest games its getting too long in the tooth to play them anymore.

You can purchase a newer faster card such as a Geforce 6200 for around $100. Gaming is an expensive habbit. That's the reality of it.

Used I've started to see 9800Pro's for close to $100. I would move past the Ti4600 and not look back.

I have to tell you man, with all the shit you have, OF COURSE gaming is an expensive habit!!! I cannot even think of investing the kind of coin you have in your machine.

In fact, I would say my gaming habit costs me $50/mo (overkill, most likely) + a new game every other month (like to play em 'till they're done).
