BF 2142 Fileplanet Beta

I posted my impressions at the top of page 4. My biggest issue with the core gameply is still the infantry movement. Its like youre in a vat of semisolid jello; there just isnt any crispness to the movement and even on domestic servers the hit detection is pretty poor. The cone of fire is even bigger and more random than BF2, so there's even less reward for being able to aim.

The titan concept is fun and there is some promise, but there is a LOT of work to be done.

As it stands now in the beta, I will not be getting this game. I hope quake wars is good...

Of course I will hold final judgement for the demo (like I said before, assuming there is one).
 
Well I signed up at the fileplanet thing and I still have not recieved any key. Anyone know if they released keys yet? I know they did "preregistration" but have those keys gone out?
 
I heard that the beta will be free for everyone else in 2 weeks. Honestly not worth paying for it now....

The current part of the beta is only for people invited by EA. (which included some Fileplanet subscribers) All the rest of Fileplanet subscribers are supposed to be able to get into the beta this week sometime.

Im done with the game...

Its totally not fun anymore...at least the Mode they have out for beta testing...

Im done with the Beta...Uninstalled last night..I find it boring...its the whole thing of fighting 150 years in the future...just doesnt seem like the BF series to me...

Awaiting POE2 for Saturday...now theres a Mod I want...

BF1942 based Artillery Strikes..Woohoo!

and yes BF2142 is nothing more than a Refined BF2 mod...Im not gonna pay 50 bucks for a mod..when good ones are being released for FREE.

Wow, I HATED the terrible accuracy of all of BF2's weapons, and now they made it WORSE? I know they want to prolong firefights but they took the skill right out of it in BF2. As I've said before in other threads, my airsoft guns are more accurate.

I hate to say it like this, but every time I see someone moaning about the inaccuracy of the firearms in BF2 I feel a bit like peeing in their ear.
Granted they were awful at first (apparently, anyway. I remember their being a big fuss from people that didn't know they were meant to lead their shots, especially with the sniper rifle, but yes, generally they were poor), however, they've now been patched quite nicely, and if you find them inaccurate, try letting off the fire button a couple of times per clip :p

but i can say it couldnt be much worst than 2142 as it is now. but really i dont expect much from QW i think it looks way over hyped. i think both QW and 2142 will fail :eek:
 
POE2 ftw. Let's just hope CAL and TWL pick it up for competition. I have a feeling this "expansion pack" ain't worth it for another year when the POE guys correct it.

EA I just can't stop hating you, sorry.

No one does, but at least we don't know for sure that it sucks (BF2142). I just hope it isn't a let down like this game. ;)

Thanks for reinforcing my point. QW is vapor-ware at the moment and until a demo/beta release is out there we can't say jack about it other than it "looks cool".

Having said that I hope they tweak 2142 to "get it right".

And to Wally, the weapons as-is *suck*. You have your opinion, I have mine. I have competed in TWL and CAL in every BF game since '42 season one logging thousands of hours online so I feel I have a basis for a semi-educated opinion. I have a healthy distaste for the randomness of BF2 which has been worsened in the 2142 beta. If you enjoy it, bully for you, but I've lost interest in adapting to strategies by game devs that are more interested in rewarding noobs than skill & practice.

Let's re-cap for the sleepy:

1. I say "beta for only EA invite"
2. Dude says "then why I got mine with no invite?"
3. I say "oh, here's a link showing different ways of getting into beta" (after some searching - even before you suggested such wise action)

So... What can I clear up for you now? Did you take that nap? :p
 
considering EA is in charge of the fileplanet beta, the only way to get a key IS threw EA

My point was less about the feel of the weapons in comparison to other BF games, and more about the accuracy in comparison to their real-life counterparts, as was implied by most people harping on about it. Put it simply, as impressive as your CALCPLpr0ness is, i'm contemptuous of the commentary of anyone on BF2's small-arms accuracy bar those who have long-term experience in the use of the guns on which they are based. Not me, for sure, but I can manage regardless.

I won't pout, but it is still just plain ass LAZY and INCONSIDERATE of EA to not support a very popular widescreen display mode. Widescreen is on the rise man, no way around it.


On second note, fuck EA. I won't be buying that game.....unless I can get proper widescreen. Now I am pouting hahah....

I'm not a widescreen guy but I agree with you. There's no reason not to support it. I don't understand why you would use that as the only reason not to buy a game, however. Center the game on your screen and enjoy. No biggy. (I just don't "get it" maybe - the whole widescreen thing)

I think the issue is with the lack of native support - with my new screen it's a pain having to hack .cfgs about to support the resolution in games, but it works in the end. I'd assumed it was because it stretched the image for BF2, but it turns out that you can still display it in 4:3 with the sides blank, so I don't really see the issue myself.

You do realize that anyone that went to Quakecon had a chance to play Quake Wars, correct? I have, but not the chance to play BF2142, which hopefully I will get in the next coming weeks.
