Hello Guys!

This is not the correct Battlefield 2142 client going to be used in our future program. We apologize for this mix-up, and we'll be sure to inform you when the correct client is posted on the frontpage of FilePlanet.

its bf2 engine there is no official wide screen only the top and bottom cut off trick

Dunno the pc gamer video podcast showed Norm the Intern playing it on what looked like a 2005fpw and the mini map didn't look stretched. We can hope can't we?

EA reading this? No widescreen = no sale. Get out of the stoneage.

IGN says it starts next week. http://pc.ign.com/articles/725/725987p3.html

Starting next week, Fileplanet subscribers will have the opportunity to check out the Battlefield franchise's foray into the future when the first phase of the beta begins. Players will be able to test out the new Titan mode as well as the wide array of new weaponry and vehicles. Some of the changes certainly sound like a lot of fun so we're pretty eager to take a look at the game ourselves.

I really don't understand all this shit about widescreen. Someone fucking elaborate now, and impress me, because all I can see is some people being annyoyed because they bought a widescreen monitor and have to run a game at 4:3 on it.

Talk about a fucking hardship!
Simpletons.

Someone seems to be having a case of the mondays ....

Widescreen is the way of the future, and EA is behind the curve.

all HD resolutions are widescreen

1280x720 (720p), 1920x1080(1080p) 16:9 aspect ratios

then there are ones for computer monitors at 16:10, 1680x1050, 1920x1200 and so on.

Widescreen is how HD-DVD and Blu-ray movies will come, eventually you won't be able to buy a non widescreen TV, and most dvds today are widescreen format.

People like widescreen because their eyes aren't square. We have more of a horizontal/rectangular field of vision, so the widescreen aspect ratio tends to give a more immersive experience as it more closely emulates our natural field of vision.

Battlefield is a popular game, especially among people who have high-end systems, and it just so happens that alot of those people have widescreen monitors and would like their game to properly make use of them.

The problem with Battlefield, is that whereas in most games you can edit the .ini file to get the resolution you want, it doesn't work in Battlefield games

F.E.A.R. didn't support widescreen officially, but you could edit the .ini to get your widescreen resolutions and the game would automatically adjust the fov so that things didn't look distorted.

It is just lazy that Battlefield games don't support this, as just about every other newish game out there does

widescreen?

EA confirmed that it will most likely NOT incorporate widescreen support into BF2142. I care not but I suppose those with widescreenies will pout.

Hmm out next week, anyone betting its next friday night at like 1am, god forbid they release it at 8pm or so.

hopefully it'll be as with the BF2 beta on fileplanet that I saw immediatly with my F5 button instantly and got the link before it was saturated. Although 5 min after that it was on gamershell with their dozens of 100/1000mbps server and a couple of hours later on filefront.

Fileplanet really kinda suck in my opinion. you gotta pay to download fast and immediatly when gamershell and filefront offer both very high speed (always@1mo/sec) and very very fast access to direct download without fees.

Hopefully some "illegal team" will have had the time to download it and give us some feedback (It was released wasn't it ? well ok for a few minutes maybe ...)

As we should. Its simply idiotic to not have WS in this day and age.

New community update from EA:

Attention Soldiers!

After much anticipation the Battlefield 2142™ Tuning Beta is officially ready for release!

Today we will begin granting access to players to experience our latest title hands on in full ranked play! With our partner IGN we will begin distributing the Beta and granting access to the forums for players to provide feedback and report bugs. The scope of this beta is highly focused on seeking out player feedback on soldier kits, vehicles, and our new Titan game mode.

Because of this tight focus on game play we have asked that our server providers only host Titan game mode servers. Rest assured that this is not a sign that we are moving away from our excellent standard of conquest game play. We want to ensure that our new Titan Mode has the same fluid action, intense combat and complete fun that our conquest game play has always had.

As the weeks progress we will increase the number of players in the Beta to allow for additional server stress testing. We will also be posting poll and discussion questions into the forums to help initiate player feedback.

We will also be working closely with clan groups to get feedback on game tuning and tactics from the competitive player’s point of view. Please make sure to visit the forums and speak with us about your thoughts on Battlefield 2142. We are eager to play along side everyone so be sure to keep your eyes open for those [DICE] and [EA] soldiers.

Be certain to keep your eyes on our new in-game news ticker and this space for all the latest Battlefield 2142 news!

- Your Battlefield Team

From that it would seem that it's starting sometime today. And IGN = Fileplanet.

Web filter at work, please copy paste :D

EDIT: Nevermind, filter is broke....need to turn it back on.
Not sure if you still need it or not but here it is anyways:
Both sides must protect their Titan, while attempting to attack and destroy their enemy's. This is achieved by capturing and holding missile silos. Each silo will then launch missiles at the enemy Titan and slowly reduce its shields.

Once a Titan's shields are reduced to zero it can be boarded by enemy soldiers. The soldiers will then attempt to access the Titan's reactor core and critically damage it.

Once this happens all on board have limited time to escape the Titan before the chain reaction causes it to detonate.

yea, their special betas and other stuff is the reason i joined, plus no more waiting in lines... i remembered when their wasnt lines... it was love. (but slow)

Yeah, was in a bad mood. Apologies. Still though, what's the deal? Why's everyone worked-up about the lack of support? Maybe it's just me, but every time i've seen widescreen used it's just looked more like gimmickry than anything else. Just some people's personal preference or something?

EDIT: Yeah, sorry, missed Andrmgic's post. Thanks for that one. Still, with things like BF2/2142 not being HD does it really matter, or did I just miss the point?

You're missing the point. It feel much more natural to game in widescreen than it does in 4:3. For those of us that have become accustomed to widescreen in the latest games it feels constrained to play in 4:3. It's more noticable in RTS and MMORPG's than shooters, since those benifit greatly from the extra screen real estate. For FPS it's more for the natural feel of it.

It's also one of the easiest features to add to a game. It's not like adding in SM3 or something of that nature. It jsut requires a couple lines of code.

Far as im aware that info above is for the beta theyre handing out to some of the community, aka the people who lick dices's ass and praise them as if they can do no wrong. Fileplanet subscribers have to wait till tue\wed for the dloadable beta.

You get more game with a real WS res. More to the sides, and a little less on top and bottom. Its more real, more natural, and just plain better.

Mouse over to see the difference; http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/screenshots/

Easy choice to me, WS is better. Any devs not supporting it is either plain lazy, or plain ignorant. They are there to make games, that the people like. WS has a HUGE install base now, and is getting bigger and bigger all the time. Putting out a game that will be played for years to come, without WS support is just plain dumb.

Very true. Took them long enough to support 1280x1024. God knows how long it will take them to support widescreen.

I got my key and am dling the beta now from Fileplanet. Looks like its up!

I can't believe it. I signed up for the 2142 beta (that has been on the front of fileplanet) about a week and a half ago. Now I decided to click again and its a different form, and when I submitted, it said the beta spots are filled?? What the hell was the point in signing up before then?

Eh, hey, if anyone gets an extra key or just doesn't care about playing, want to give me a key?
Thanks! hehe
