BF 2142 Beta Out

I think everybody will haev there own opinion on the game. For us non fileplanet subscribers. Well we just have to wait for a public demo. I honestly cant say what ill think about the game. Although the graphics look the same, the gameplay may be alot funner.

I'm saying this as a BF2 fan, that looks horrible :( It looks like they took a BF2 map (that map looks a LOT like Dragon Valley) and added some futuristic armor & weapons...
I agree. I was expecting more fighting in urban environments.

oh my god shut up about the "bugs" I play battlefield 2 almost everyday and the game works plenty fine for me. It only crashes every now and then, but thats nothing for a hardcore gamer like me to bitch about. jesus.

.......Theres more bugs than crashing........

Special forces - Russian helicopter flies on its own when the pilot jumps out
and just tons of other annoying things

I got my key yesturday. I was able to download, installing with no problems. In fact the game has not crashed a single time which is quite suprising becuase I also own BF2 and it still crashes occassionally.

Let me start out by saying I like this game. I am not blown away but it is fun and interesting. The custom kits and tons of options for configuring your soldier make this game more than just a mod in my opinion. There are a TON more unlocks that BF2. In BF2 I have had 4 unlocks so far and it took me a lot of hours to get each one. BF2142 has a lot more unlocks and customization available. In fact each of the 3 classes has an entire tree of unlockables. Reconnissance, support, and assult each having its own entire tree of unlockables and configurations. For example I could take an assault class and start unlocking down a more medic type of tree or I could take him down a different path and specialize him more as a heavy assaust soldier. The same is for the other classes.

Also I have a Dell 2407 widescreen monitor and a 7950gx2. I was able to configure my resolution for 1600x1200x32 in the gui. My guess is that it is not TRUE widescreen however honestly I can't tell the difference. The game does not look stretched. Its just fine. Although I never really noticed a problem with widescreen in BF2 either and I used a switch when running the game to launch it at 1920x1200.

Dont get me wrong this is definately a beta. There are weird bugginess. People seem to clip around a little bit. I'm not sure if it is lag or what but I notice people seem to pop around a bit on occasion.

I can say though that titan mode is fun. The vehicles are very different that BF2. I can honestly say this does not feel like a mod. It uses the same engine for graphics and fighting however there is definately enough difference in equipment, custimizations, vehicles, and map types to call this more than just a mod.

If you truely enjoy BF2 then you will probably really also like BF2142 however if you are a BF2 hater then it would probably make sense that you won't enjoy BF2142. I myself really enjoy BF2. Its a lot of fun. Its not perfect. But I really love the fact that there is constant fighting. I really don't like FPS games where its 5 minutes in between every gunfight and you spend most of your time running around looking for people to shoot. For those bashing the fact that there is no urban fighting etc... Remmber, this is just a beta and there is only ONE map out with ONE mode(titan mode). I am sure conquest mode with tickets will be good ol' karkland and other maps will offer different experiences.

FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR OBJECTIVE BETA IMPRESSIONS CHECK THIS OUT. This is exactly my impressions as well but I didn't feel like typing it all out. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=113065

I have to respectfully disagree with the above poster.

I'm a fan of BF1942 & Battlefield 2 and enjoy them both despite their respective differences. However, Battlefield 2142 feels exactly like a mo and not even a well made mod, the graphics are poor, the gameplay is almost identical despite their "new" game modes, everything feels exactly the same as Battlefield 2, including the vehicles except some control differently and look different.

It doesn't even feel like a well made mod, sort of like the ones that come out early and suck and nobody plays.

I installed it, played it for a good hour, uninstalled it. As for those getting the unmodified content error, there is a known fix for that in the beta forums.

Oh and no true widescreen support, the reason for this as stated by EA PR is that "Widescreen would give users with a widescreen monitor an unfair advantage over those with standard 4:3 resolutions".

All in all, I can honestly say that this "new" game feels old. It plays like BF2 and it looks like BF2.

Two thumbs down from me i'm afraid.

Sorry, but that's some of the dumbest logic I've ever seen.

I've never had a car break down on me...does that mean that no cars ever break down? The fact of the matter is that Battlefield 2 is a damned joke; their patches fix one problem and cause 3~4 new ones. Memory leaks are still a huge issue. The bugs exist, regardless of whether or not you're willing to acknowledge them.

2142 has the same fucking issues. It's sad that EA can't even top the quality of user-made mods that were created years ago for Battlefield 1942.

in my books... EA cant even tops battlefield pirates

This game is completely unrealistic!

Who actually thinks there will be any trees left in 2142? :p
But seriously folks...I must concur with the general consensus this looks like a $50 mod for BF2. Not looking very impressive so far.

QFMFT!!!!!!

Scrolling down, I initially thought they were BF2 screenshots until I saw the gun. It looks just like BF2 with robots thrown in, it doesn't look like they've added anything new to the engine.

This should have been an expansion pack or something.

Soooo... how does one get rid of "modified" content bug? Fucking game. Waited like 4minutes for it to load to come back with that shit.

Hey WhyYouLoveMe, you've been vocal about fileplanet I believe, so, did you crumble? :D

Modified content bug fix is to unistall and reinstall. worked for me. Too bad it's still not fun.

thats funny cause most people that un/installed couldnt play at all after that.

Does anybody else get a slight headache after playing this? It's not as bad as the headache I got from HL2 though.

Sad to see so many people violate the NDA, and the fact nobody seems to think its wrong.

If it was HW and AMD was giving you chips to test would you violate that NDA?

Probably but that would end your beta testing career.

As it should.

NDAs are way over used these days. Hell Oprah has everyone of her employees sign one so they do go around letting people know what kind of a bitch she is behind the scenes. Whats sad is that EA cares more about putting out a half assed game for money instead of making just one game run right. On top of that they charge you 50 bucks for a expansion pack instead of calling it a mod, cause thats all that they are. So yes I have no problem pissing on that NDA. Thank you, come again.

EA has done it wrong throughout. I don't know why they can't get the basics right. Fix the damn issues that have plagued BF2 since it came out!

NDA doesn't really apply b/c it's not a new game it's a MOD or expansion pack at best.

POE2 ftw!

And something like 2/3s of college graduates admit they've cheated during their academic career. People don't follow the rules and usualy get away with it, stop finger wagging.

no, to take more vidoes and screenshots & show people it's not worth paying for the crap-o Beta. That is What the NDA does not want you to know, couse then no one would pay for it.

EA really just picked a horrible time to release the game. They should have just reworked the engine fixing all the bugs that seem to plague the engine and create a MUCH larger view distance because if you got 200ft in the air everything is pea soup fog. If it was another year from now with a practically new engine and feel I'm sure it would be an excellent game.

With a popular game like Battlefield a year is about the time all the good mods come out. People are going to be playing PoE2 and FH2 for $0 rather than shell out $50 for a futuristic mod. I'm sure there is a futuristic BF mod in the works that will probably be better than 2142 anyways.

How many people were playing DC in BF1942 compared to the whole of BF:V and its mods?

I rest my case. :D

Dear lord, why is nobody understanding this? This isn't an "OMGosh I get to play a game for free before everyone else!!" exercise, it is meant for you to record the goddamn problems and let the developers know. The purpose of the fucking NDA is not to prevent you telling people it's a beta, because we all already know that. People who already have fileplanet subscriptions have them for reasons other than the BF2142 beta, and anyone paying for the Beta knows they are paying for a bug-ridden POS because it is a Beta as indicated by the name, "Beta".

Seriously, get a clue, please.

EDIT: That could have been a bit more coherent, but I don't really care at the moment.
