Better quality: NEC or Eizo

I have quite a decision to make here as I can essentially get two NEC PA241W monitors for the cost of a single Eizo CG243W - this would save me about $2,000 since I was planning on getting a second monitor anyways. I haven't had much luck with NEC but because of their congeniality and willingness to work with me, I am absolutely considering them right now.

Also, if I purchased the Eizo I would need to get a colorimeter. With one of the NECs, you get the newly bundled i1 Display Pro customized for NEC monitors.

My question simply put is which monitor is better? If you want to consider specifics, here is what mostly concerns me:

Input Lag
Black Levels
Contrast
Quality of Build
Quality of Picture

I literally want the BEST monitor that I can currently get right now. Essentially it's down to these two and I honestly can't decide.

I was told by an Eizo representative that they pick the top 10% of their panels while NEC will take any of the panels as long as they don't pose any problems.

I was also told that one deciding factor of the Eizo over the NEC was something to do with their internal hardware. I was a bit confused but something about how they have some internal hardware which helps to balance colors and black levels on the screen - I'm not sure. Is this true? Is the Eizo really a better monitor (with just a premium price) or was that just a sales pitch I heard?

Thanks. :(

Eizo is the top of the line, IMO. If you don't mind slashing $2K for a 24", then go ahead and take a gamble. And yes, it's a gamble, you might need to return so get it from a reputable vendor.

This post makes my decision utterly more difficult. :(

If I get the Eizo, what else do I need to get with it?

I know the NEC comes with the SV kit which includes SpectraView II and their i1 colorimeter.

The Eizo comes with ColorNavigator but no colorimeter. What colorimeter would be advisable with Eizo CG series monitors?

Then I consider the future...how much longer before they release their top of the line LED series? Or some other better series of monitors as the CG and the PA have both been "out" since 2009. Or even the addition of an A-TW polarizer - which I still don't understand why no monitors have except the WUXi.

Eizo isn't worth the insane price, just get the NECs and make sure you can return 'em to store on the off chance your panel isn't perfect.
Performance wise they're quite the same really..

Version 6 supports the new X-Rite EyeOne Display Pro which would be a very good choice. The good old DTP94 is also supported. Thanks to the corrections carried out in software the absolute error due to the WCG-CCFL spectrum is reduced considerably.

Or even the addition of an A-TW polarizer - which I still don't understand why no monitors have except the WUXi.
The A-TW polarisation film is still added to the LG LM240WU5 panel (IPS with RGB-LED blu; HP LP2480zx, LG W2420R, Quato IP240ex LED).

Best regards

Denis

Do U know how's AG coating on LG w2420r?

It's the same panel as the HP LP2480ZX I believe, and ToastyX said it was fairly grainy on that monitor.

As far as AG coating goes, how does Nec compare to Eizo?

If you want super low AG, go get a Samsung PVA based panel or one of their new S-PLS based panel monitors like the S24A850 or S27A850

None of them are available where I live. I'd just be happy if Nec or Eizo didn't use as much AG as Dell. I had the U2412M and it was more than I can accept. Besides, Nec and Eizo are famous for their build and picture quality.

Damn psychopathic LG engineers

@katabatik
NEC and EIZO we are discussing here have panel Dell U2410 use and it's AG is even stronger than U2412M :D

only PLS have better coating but those don't have proper sRGB, are not hardware calibrated and 24" is 6bit so it's kinda different league from NEC and EIZO...

Arrrrrrrgh! That was what I was afraid of!Stronger than the U2412M, uh? God, I miss my old Sony CRT...

The only reason now why I don't regret sending my U2412M back is because I decided I want a 30" anyway and I want to start learning some serious Photoshop for B&W photo editing (I absolutely love B&W) and old photos restoring.

So... for these uses, will the Dell U3011 be on par with a Nec or an Eizo? Since they all share the same coating, might as well try to forget it.
