try that. In terms of how the cards are made, just about all use the same core and PCB, so you really wont get one that runs that much better then another companies. I believe one thing that was left out is the powercolor is using a PCB with the optional power plug. Though i highly doubt it, it may allow more overclocking. Only other real differences are VIVO capability, and the ASUS one obviously being gimped.

I wanna hear someone actualy testing that powercolor one, everyone just has speculation

Vr-Zone has some OC info in thier review

Bit-Tech reviews a different card that also has power connections, and they felt it helped
"The inclusion of an additional power connector makes this card stand out from the competitors when we overclocked it."

Firing Squad also has some comments

I have the BBA 800XL and it has been great for the past week. I upgraded from my X600 AIW that I didn't need and this card is great. I have compared it to other benchmarks from sites using similar equipment and I am dead on their performance if not better.

Anyone know why the Asus "Extreme" edition is underclocked by 8MHz on the core and 280Mhz on the memory? Seems kind of odd to me. . . .

little off topic, but what does BBA mean?? i hear every1 saying i got a BBA such and such a card today, and it roxorz my soxorz....

No idea... didn't they pull a similar stunt with the 6800 series cards, where one of them didn't even come with GDDR3?

Here is a good review comparing the reference Sapphire with the "gimped" Asus Extreme.

I think the All-In-Wonder X800XL card is the best one since it's basically a downclocked X800XT with 1.6ns memory. The video stuff is a bonus.

The Asus X800XL also uses only DDR1 memory. They really crippled the card, yet anyone notice its the most expensive non-AIW?

And on the AIW X800XL, i woudlnt reccomend it unless you need it. No guarentee it comes with 1.6ns, and while the black PCB Is hot...the card is like $150 more than the cheapest XL, not worth it. At this point, most of the XLs are still just rebadged BBATI cards, so your safe no matter what brand you go with. A fwe companies, such as Asus, Sapphire, and Powercolor have their own cards now, but to my knowlege the rest are just rebadged, and some have a different heatsink. Just get teh cheapest one.

I picked it up @ newegg for $349. Definitely worth it. and I get 542.25 / 535.5 w/ ati tool...(didn't try higher yet) seems like everyone getting the x800xl agp aiw is getting the 1.6ns. (I haven't heard otherwise, could be wrong tho) It doesn't have a bridge chip and is basically an agp part.

the x800xl shares the same pcb and some parts as the x800xt and the x850xt but that's about as far as it goes. The x800xl uses an r430 chip, which is an entirely different process than the x800 or x850's use. So, you're not basically getting a downclocked x800xt...you're just getting an x800xl vivo with 1.6ns memory.

well guess i'm lucky cause windows says mine is an x800xt instead of AIW X800XL.

Mine uses a 420 too. If it used a 430, wouldn't it need a bridge chip? Mine doesn't have one. I also got around 550 on my core overclock through atitools and ran through a few rounds of 3Dmark 2k5 a few times with no probs. I haven't tried to go any higher yet until I get some cooling. I don't think the XL 430 core can go that high so easily.

here's a thread on it. http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33808573

Heres the info from atitool: So YES it IS a downclocked XT.

wow...if that's true...then I stand corrected :D

The 430 doesn't need a bridge chip since it's already PCI-E. From what I understand, the 430 is the same "guts" as the 420 just using a different process (.11 instead of .13 low-k).

What does it say on the core if you take the hsf off? 420 or 430?

btw...what brand was it? BBA?

yeah.. what I meant was .. if it was AGP and a true XL then it should have a bridge chip since it's native to pci-e. I haven't taken the hsf off yet.. but there was another thread with pics that someone posted. I'll look it up.

i got powercolor and like it alot. the max i get is about 455/555 on stock cooling. i think its pretty decent.

I've noticed that the "true" x800xl cores (430's) don't usually hit 500Mhz. too bad too...I was used to my 9600xt's overclockability where 150Mhz over the stock speed was "easy" :p .

Mine hit's 450/570 with stock cooling. but so far I've just been running it stock anyway.

I have a question. If all other X800xl are just rebranded why is the one made by Connect3D is cheaper than the one made by ATI? Connect3D $285, ATI $299 quoted from newegg.

Since just about all of them use the reference design or are re-branded, then it would kinda boil down to who has the best bundle/price.

Well, connnect3D has two. One is the same as the early powercolor ones, with a power connector and 1.6ns ram, but I think they all sold. I know connect3d now, as powercolor does, have a 2.0ns card with a power connector and one without it (rebadged ATI). The higher priced ones are because of a bundle but the lower prices ones that dont have a bundle i woudl assume are lower for competitions sake. If connect3d sells there rebadged card same as the real mcoy, and doesnt throw in any goodies, which are you gunna get? ATI. But if its 415 cheaper for the same thing, then you might get them instead. Either way they make a profit at that price, so its all about what price they feel they need to mark the card at to compete.

I just picked up an xl tonight from the CompUSA in KC. Traded in my 9800pro due to "stability issues" and with the credit, a 25 dollar gift card I got for free in a promotion, and one of my former co-workers giving me the employee price hookup, it came to a grand total of...

32.17, w/ tax.

Nice. Extended warranties are great if you can take advantage of them, and I DO mean "take advantage" of them. ;) Wouldn't get one if I didn't know I'd be able to for sure.

What did you do to overclock your XL? I've tried Radclocker and ATITool and neither one shows me Core/Mem speeds and I can't overclock. My card is an AGP8X model and is based on the R430 core (verified by EVEREST). Thanks.
