Hi guys and gals,

What is the best single slot video card for nvidia out now? With SLI Option

By single slot do you mean skinny enough that you could fit another full-size card in the slot immediately below it/further from the port cluster?

That's a tough one. I think "real" single slot design (air cooling) ends with the GT 640 and I'm pretty sure you can't SLI those.

What are you trying to accomplish? If you want to play casual/older games - the GT 640 can handle up to 4 monitors and play those games pretty well. If you want to do anything beyond that - well, your choices really improve at 2 slot or higher. :)

If you can fit 2 single slots in SLI then surely you can fit one much more powerful dual slot card? Unless you have some weird mobo.

I think sk3tch has it- this card doesn't exist, and the requirement still doesn't make sense.

I am looking for a card that takes up 1 slot only. But still able to use SLI.

My case is a nzxt Vulcan. Micro ate case. I can fit 2 double slot cards in there but the heat becomes ridiculous with 2 double slot cards.

So I figured I would find to single slot cards and SLI them together. So far every single slot card I found is either not made anymore or made by ati and I prefer to have a nvidia for this setup.

I might have to go ati with this since I know the do still have single slot vid cards. With SLI.

You mean crossfirex

I don't get why you would do this. The best air-cooled single-slot cards are mid-range cards at best - even in SLI they pale in comparison to a single higher end dual-slot card. There's just no point.

GTX 690? It's pretty much 2 single 670s in 2 slots. It's already doing SLI, but can SLI with another (for quad SLI).

That's basically what I was thinking. Nvidia's dual-slot blowers used to be set up well for side-by-side operation, but as boards have been putting an extra slot in between the two x16 slots (ATX), those have mostly gone away. People with mATX boards are extremely unlikely to use multiple GPUs as well, and this mostly makes sense, because you get a deeper fan as a result.

Basically this. Not sure what single slot AMD card that you think you can run in crossfire that will be better than say a 660TI. Hell even the joke answer of a 690 might be good for you since you did not give your price range or intended use.

I actually wasn't joking. Question was "best" single slot card...with slight modification as described in my post I stand behind the recommendation of the water cooled 690....now as far as the specificity of the OP's question, perhaps certain unknown restrictions might apply which would cause me to revise my recommendation..

just take a dual slot card and water cool it. Most full cover water blocks come with a single slot replacement cover.

so you can choose 660ti, 670, 680. doesn't matter. (well not quite sure they have 660ti waterblocks)

This seems silly to get a crappy single slot card so that you have the option to SLI with two crappy single slot cards. Just get a good dual slot card that does what you want it to and ignore SLI as an upgrade path.

That single slow 680 is about the only other option... and that doesn't exist in retail yet...

The 690 is closer to two 680's on one card not 670's, same # cuda cores, same memory, bit lower base and boost clocks but as most reviews showed it's within 5% of SLI'd 680's but with half the slots and less power consumption.

But like others have said, no point in trying to SLI two craptacular single slot cards when a single 670+ would blow them both away. If money isn't an object nothing in two slots out there can beat a 690.

what exactly makes it a "slow" 680?

Two single slot cards are going to put out more heat and noise than a single dual slot card in most scenarios. Doesn't make much sense unless you you're going to use just one single slot card.
