Best FPS Multiplayer games ATM?

I am very much enjoying CoD:WaW.

To me, the MP feels a bit more balanced than CoD4.
 
I'd rather play Red Orchestra than any version of COD these days. I've been playing PC FPS since Quake 1 and I have had enough of the same crap over and over.

CoD4 was fun for a while...WaW is shit, a complete ripoff of CoD4 but they didnt even bother to fix any of CoD 4s problems and fucked up a few of its aspects that were alright.
 
L4D and TF2.

COD multiplayer games suck shit. Nothing but machine gun sniping and nade spamming. Just aim out a window and start firing away!

I started playing L4D yesterday. I'm burnt out on it forever now. It's just another zombie shoot em up. Sure teamplay is the focus of it.. but other than that... it is still a simple zombie FPS with a tiny selection of weapons.

Replay value? Sure.. weapons spawn in diff locations and so do the more powerful infested enemys. Thats about it... BORING.

Go with TF2. That way you can at least play 3 months before you burn yourself out. Instead of 2 days.
 
To those that called COD "realistic," I suggest you try Red Orchestra.

Back on topic; TF2 for best FPS multiplayer game of the year.
 
i'll go ahead and say americas army. I played a lot for a few weeks and had a good time. It's nice to play something thats realistic instead of COD nade spam and SMG's that are as accurate as a 50cal.

anyone who has fired a real gun knows almost every FPS out there is full of shit.
 
The real issue with L4D is the numerous bugs, glitches, exploits, and no SDK therefore creating a lack of custom content which keeps games like CS and TF2 going. Hate to say it, but the game should have been delayed. Valve is lucky they have Steam so they can complete their games after they are released.
 
TF2 is the one of the best MP FPS I ever played if its not the best, i bought COD4 when it just came out for 55 Euro (most expensive game I ever bought) and that was the worst 55 Euros I spend.

No arcade run and duck cartoon, follow the leader crap here. A real online FPS war game for mofo's that take their fun seriously and requires you to THINK. Artillery, tanks, rocket artillery, airstrikes, mortar, .50mm sniping, heavily armored transports with MG's and AA missles, jets that hover, mines and tripmines, radar, Anti-Personnel and anti-vehicle deployables, chainguns, rocket launchers, MG nests, smoke screens, remote detonators, mini-nukes (hammer)--- and that's just some of ONE side. Objective and TEAM based..no some rambo kamikaze I'm invincible look at me garbage.

TF2, COD4, L4D can stay with the girls and teenagers... ETQW = grown men only. Come and grow some balls, some chest hair and a beard.

Come and get pwned.

haha this post makes me feel good about purchasing the game last night. i was waiting for someone to mention something OTHER than cod4 or tf2...

real weapons? i thought they were all made up weapons that shoot a bunch of made up stuff. ETQW only has 500 people playing right now, thats pretty pathetic. it's not like that game doesn't get enough press. it came with nvidia's cards, it was suppose to own BF2 so everyone who played BF2 tried it out, and yet they can only get a mere 500? shit, BF1942 has 1200 playing right now.

I've played every single modern FPS out there and still can't get back to the tactical and co-op feeling of RS :( L4D might be the closest in terms of what it requires to stay alive, but still not the same...although I can't help but hope for a RS mod for Crysis...I wanted to make one but I'm waiting to see what Obsidian Edge 2 brings to the table.

So in other words, larger numbers != good/better game sometimes. Or majority != always a good idea, game, item, form of entertainment, etc.

With that said, I played the demo of ETQW and didn't like it. The atmosphere, the guns, and the gameplay didn't draw me in. So went back to BF2.

I had my frustrations trying to get into it because you have to play it differently but now I am hooked and the game rocks.
Is it perfect? NO WAY...no game is, I wish something were removed but still its the best for me.
 
Girls do like TF2. Seems to be more and more of them playing. Either that or they are 12 year old boys with voices that haven't changed. Not sure.

I play TF2 daily and it meets my needs for fun & unwindaments. Sometimes I am just too lazy to learn new games, but L4D sounds pretty fun. The trailer's I've seen make it just look like a spam fest so hopefully there is more to it than that.

FYI ET:QW was NOT advertised and sucked off like alot of these "popular" multiplayer shooters. Sure it came with a few nVidia cards...starting 6 months after release. There's a few reasons why ET:QW does not have a retardedly huge player base..let me explain:

1. Quake wars was not advertised because ID Software thought many of the hugely popular original ET (which was a FREE game) players would simply move on to ETQW.. which they did not. Big mistake.

2. ETQW is not some arcady bunny hopping, cartoon, capture the flag spam fest like TF2, BF2/2142 and COD4. Its a game that requires you to THINK. To be successful you have to have situational awareness, an inkling of tactical skills, a good shot..and a TEAM player. All of which are just too much for the casual FPS goon.

3. This game requires at least 50 hrs of play before you have an idea of what to do and where to go. That's 50 hrs of getting pwned before you completely start understanding the game and being able to affect your team positively instead a rubber necking n00b. Again, too much for girls and teenagers. Too much energy to properly learn the game and truly enjoy it. That's why there were 400,000 sales and so many quitters, hence 500-1000 players playing at any given time.


I could go even further, however I doubt you understand anything past looking at current player lists on some website.
 
This is why I stick to TF2. None of this "it's not realistic" bullshit - it's not meant to be taken seriously, and far too many FPS games seem to encourage that (COD4&5, CSS, RS, BF2, etc).TF2 pubs are entertaining, people are actively enjoying the game and having fun (except snipers, they're just loners ;)). No "omg i shot you in the head laggg" crap either.

I have both and L4D takes at best a moderate amount of co-op ability not "skill". The only point where "skill" becomes an issue is if your trying to kill a hunter before mauling. Everything else is either stationary, moves too slow, or is too large not to hit. The game is nothing more than Serious Sam for 2008. Co-op wise the game works for what it is.

However when using L4D in MP terms it is lacking. Two campaigns "over and over" again get's boring in VS. Spare me the Director spill.

CoD4 is leaps and bounds better than L4D in virtually all aspects when it comes to MP.

L4D is the Wii of Multiplayer on PC's. It is there for anyone to pick up and enjoy but after the novelty wears off it will sit on your hard drive awaiting either more content or for you to uninstall it. CoD 4 has the lasting appeal to keep it going until Infinity Wards next release.

didnt the same thing happen with the UT2004 demo? it was a perfect onslaught map (torlan), and was stable and pretty.... so tons of people just stayed on the demo without moving to the full game..
