best for HL2

HDR is coming to HL2 for both sets of cards.
OK, but "coming" isn't "here" and what exactly is coming? One level? Two? From what I've seen it's not a whole game experience like Far Cry.

1st.) This is a thread about what card to buy for HL2.
2nd.) Discussing the benefits of SM3.0 has nothing to do with NVIDIA.
3rd.) Not only does your ATI card not support those features but is also has no nutritional value ;)
Wow your the frist one to see that

Its coming to the engine. They are making a level to show it off.

Maybe I should apply this "Comming but isn't here" logic to all your arguements.
Since in perspective SM3.0 and HDR in games would just be like the "levels" arguement for HL2.

You could do that, but there would be little reason to as you would be wrong?

Everything I've mentioned is here, and can be found in Far Cry, Riddick, and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.

Theres a way to make HDR work in HL2, you have to edit a file as I remember

Edit: Also, when will you learn that ATI cards can do HDR?

No there isn't- it's not done yet.

I say again:

Why do you hate the people on this board so much that you LIE to them over and over and over again????

What did they ever do to you? Even a ATI employee wouldn't be as shameless as you are about this-
Over and over and over, whatever the question, you just say "ATI can do that!" when they can't

You're either:
A. Really dumb
B. Really evil

Either way, I wish you would stop trying to mislead honest people who come here to learn about this stuff. It's not right.

How are we lying, ATI can do HDR, look at far cry, there are planty of ATI users who play Far Cry, ask them if it works.

And the point of syaing that UBI was payed off by ATI is, that this wasnt the herelding of the end of SM2.0, and ATIs destruction, just that it was marketing, and somehwat of a scam.

they play farcry without hdr, there was a demo released using that engine that could do hdr lightning, you couldent play it though.

the engine powering sc:3 was targeted at current and coming consols, there aint any consols capable of using sm2, so no reason to put that in the engine.

Lol Rollo keep believeing that ATi cant do HDR. While we cant do the horrible OpenEXR HDR that has any single card draging its feet and requires at least dual 6800GTs to run at any good resolution ATi can still do HDR.
You are LYING because you stated ATI cards do soft stencil shadows, but they DON'T.
When has it currently not being able to do something been bad in your opinion?
Really Rollo come on.

Nor are their any SM3.0 console out are their?
Their is a large fan base of the game that uses SM2.0 hardware though.
The SM3.0 capable card base is the minority while the SM2.0 is the majority.
Their was no reason to NOT put SM2.0 shaders in their.
Which could achieve all the same effects.

I don't need to "ask" anyone, your own link to this site says it's disabled.

Jesus, where's Brent Justice when we need him? He knows his stuff, you seem to trust him, if he says there are games out there that use ATI HDR and soft stencil shadows, I'll quit posting.

Until that day, which will never come, you are a LIAR. You should be banned for deliberately deceiving honest people IMO

No reason trying to convince you though.

You're right about that- I've never denied that ATI cards can do HDR, because they can and we've all known it forever?

My point in this thread has always been there are no games with ATI HDR, so the fact that they can do it is largely irrelevant. If/when Gabe gets done adding it to HL2, it will be relevant?

When will this war end.
Ati, Nvidia, we don't care. AFAIK, each one of them make some errors, geforce 5xxx anyone?
I always supported Nvidia, but now I have an ATI, just because it had VIVO and I prefered a compact solution. (1slot, smaller)
One thing is sure, Nvidia, ATI, Intel or AMD: Each time they release something they try to keep them at least equal to the competition, like that they can increase the price. Compare benchmarks, all the same.

Rollo, compare these 2 images, each feature HDR, as well as other effects:

Is there a diffrence? No, no there is not,

why do you think that there is hdr in those screens, did the tester say that it was anywhere in that article ?

here you can see the difference

Hate_Bot ATi cards cannot do HDR in Far Cry.
Far Cry uses OpenEXR HDR.
Which in my opinion no matter how cool looking the reduction in Resolution and AA/AF is not worth it.

I'm failry certain though that in the next vesion of the Cry Engine that HDR for ATI cards will be included.

“It is because of amazing cards like ATI’s RADEON® X800 XT and Platinum Edition series that we are able to create Hollywood-style graphics on today’s PCs,” says Michael Endres, Crytek’s Art Manager for the demo. Compression of normal maps using ATI 3Dc and “object instancing” reduces the amount of processing needed for displaying multiple similar objects in a scene, such as rocks and trees. Real-time post-processing effects, once the exclusive domain of high-priced compositing programs, can change the overall mood by adjusting the color, gamma, and saturation. A depth-of-field camera effect can change the apparent focal distance, animating the scene to make it appear that the scene is being viewed through a different lens perspective. Special pixel shader effects for the “invisible” mutant create a new refraction-like effect, and Crytek programmers created “ATI-Water”, a new water shader effect made especially for this demo. “Without these advanced ATI cards and technology we would not be able to do this,” says Crytek’s Andres. “This demo demonstrates specific technical achievements of RADEON® cards, and we are big supporters of ATI's efforts in this area. We love ATI!”

In that case, it seems ATi can do things Nvidia can not. :p

It works both ways, I really dont feel like fighting/arguing over it anymore. :)

Why do you guys continue arguing with Rollo.

He is absolutely right about everything. Visit this thread to see just how much knowledge this man posesses.

Rollo's wisdom

And to top it all off he voted for both the Bushes.

Apparently we can see how much knowledge you possess by this thread?

1. Last I checked, a person's opinion of 5800NUs has little to do with current gen hardware? (besides the fact that nothing I said there was inaccurate)
2. Last I checked, who a person votes for was not a meter of intelligence either?

The fact of the matter is that the Democrats two candidates they've managed to place in office didn't exactly "succeed" now did they? Last one- impeached for lying to Congress. One before that, one term and out.
Don't worry- I'll vote for Hillary in the primaries next time, and then the real (Republican) candidate in the election. I'd like to see Hillary get her chance to be the first woman President! ;)

Defending a dead end card like the 5800 is in my opinion much worse than defending the X800 nowadays. Why is it you don't have a problem with the fact that the card you so blindly defended in that link was also screwed by Ubisoft. Could it be because it sucked. Think about it Rollo.

I don't know if you noticed but the economy was much better with the impeached pres than either of the rednecks you voted for.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Rollo, that's pretty funny.

You used the same exact argument that the X800 guys do now for your "godly" FX5800 then. That's pretty sad.

Damn it rollo can't you just shut up and stop posting when you're wrong, it gets so annoying. And I'll refrain from comment on voting for the bushes...
