Battlefield 3 to require Origin

My question has been answered.

Honestly this makes a hell of a lot of sense for them to do. I don't like it, but if you want to compete with steam you need to have something worth registering for.

Sorry if it has been posted, but can't resist the fail:

No real surprise here, I'll be passing on Battlefield 3 and MW3, neither game is going to be anything special

No thread can resist the Fail.

And as for the RAM issue...really?! I assume everyone must close every browser window and spare process to save their precious RAMs for their gaming. Shit, just the other day I paused and minimized Batman:AA, left my computer, and launched and played BC2 without even realizing it or seeing any performance difference.

Here is my plan:
Buy BF3 retail (i like the box)
Download Origin, activate BF3 etc. etc.
Wait a day or two...
download crack.
un-install origin.
voila!
If that doesn't allow me to play online, then I guess I'll just keep origin.

All EA games have required an EA login since BF2 if not earlier. EA is just tying Origin and the old EA account systems together. Many games require Steam integration. This is no surprise, it's not any different and not a big deal. I'm not saying I like it but that's how things work these days.

Except BF3 will probably be the definitive shooter and set the standard going forward. Lots of people saying they are not going to get it.. I'm sure most eventually will. The days of Steam only are coming to an end..

I graduated out of the "need the newest shooter" mindset many years ago. I purchased Monday Night Combat on sale just for LAN parties, otherwise there isn't enough time in the day to keep up with a new FPS every 1-2 months. I played the old Counter-Strike for something like 8 years--I'm not sure why a new game in a series needs to come out yearly (from a gamer's standpoint) when most of the games are nearly identical with regard to overall strategy and the bulk of the gameplay.

It needs to come out yearly so they can make money.

I thought everybody knew this. They aren't interested in making a quality game and haven't been for a few years now.

BFBC2 was good, but not great, the botched launch really sucked for some people who had not only preordered the game, but took vacation to play that very day.

MW2 was complete garbage, and not worth mentioning.

MW3 will dominate consoles and BF3 will dominate PCs. I highly doubt PC domination > console domination.

I am very disappointed that the commander wont be included in BF3 :(

That said, I'm still buying a $1500 computer just to play BF3. :)

Why the hell do you have so many processes? I only have like 40.

Anyways, my question is will BF3 use securom through origin, that would be pretty goofy if it did.

Not sure why I have that many processes. I don't really have that much running.
Doesn't seem to affect the performance of the PC and I have more than enough ram to spare.

Ok, I see what it does now.
It was in the tray at 112MB, brought the interface up and then I was clicking on random games in my list and it would go up a little, probably loading the news text and graphics into ram. I got it up to 127MB and then when I sent it to the tray it dropped to 12MB and is now at 16MB and rising.

I just got home and checked my task manager and Steam has been minimized since 4am and it is now at 100MB in size. the PC has just been sitting idle all that time. Origin is still at 90MB.

He hasn't played a video game in the last four years because they all suck. Except for League of Legends, which, strangely, has no offline single player mode.

Incorrect, last night I played some Fallout 3, some Team Fortress 2, and League of Legends.

In fact, I'm firing up Team Fortress 2 right now.

Task Manager won't accurately show how much memory Steam is actually using. For example if you minimize steam to system tray, it will show it is using a very low amount (~15mb), but go to performance tab and look at "free memory." Now exit Steam, you will gain 100mb+.

Use process hacker for example, http://processhacker.sourceforge.net/

it will show Steam using more, as well as having a service in the background.

People who says "OMFG I'M NOT BUYING BF3 OR MW3" will probably end up getting it anyway, JUST like all those MW2 and Black Ops "boycotters"

Is it so bad that the online program you have to log into is the same company as the game you're playing?

Yes it sucks that its not all one package anymore with all your games on steam.

If you're like me however, you don't buy too many games and focus on 1 or 2 games a year, wouldn't you feel more comfortable knowing the game you're focusing on has a preloaded login from the same company?

I have 99 processes at this time, and I'm not running much of anything in the background, under Win7 HP x64. (Just MSI Afterburner, logitech keyboard manager, mse, fraps, and windows media center + 1 ie tab and 1 firefox tab). It's not unusual at all on a modern PC. If you're under XP 40 sounds around right.

I have W7, I do not install anything but games and drivers. All I do on my pc is play games. I am posting this from my chrome laptop.
