Battlefield 3 - Official Thread

Three weeks from now is sometime in September ;) But more like Sept. 14th, unless they changed it.

I want the game in my hands now. No more running in circles in the forums about this and that.
Let's play the game and give an opinion from a position of experience, rather than emotion.

We actually want our games to be fun, that is the problem.

Fun is in the eye of the beholder... just don't pretend Battlefield is so much more realistic and tactical compared to CoD. Battlefield is a fun, over the top, arcade game. That's all it is. Everything about it is hilariously unrealistic. Just like CoD.

Love battlefield and well said.
Kids have no patience, I am 47 (own the kids) and still play battlefield series due to the game-play which isn't fps shooter first but tactical and strategic.

Hehe, well, you're talking to a "kid", I am only 18.

The only COD I have ever touched was the first MW, and I think I only played like 10 hours of multiplayer, it just wasn't my cup of tea. But on the flipside, I have logged hundreds of hours in Q3A/Quake Live, UT99 and CS, so It's not that I prefer the slower, more strategic gameplay of BF that encourages teamwork over fast-paced twitch shooters, it just depends on the execution for me. With COD, it tries to do both, and it fails at doing so.

Oh, and I think I said it earlier in the thread during the Alpha, but I personally liked Battlelog. For me, it was faster and far more responsive than the browser in either BF2 or BC2. And you had your stats/awards/server browser all in one, easy to access place. And I'm not too concerned about the measly 1k of memory or whatever the plugins for it consumed, 1k out of 12GB is nothing to be alarmed over. And RAM is dirt cheap these days, just go buy more. (my 2x6GB kits cost me around $500 total back during the i7 920 launch, for comparison. You can get 16GB for like $90 or whatever with a good sale these days.)

And I felt that the game launched extremely fast upon joining a new server, much faster than BC2.

LOL i call Bull on this. BF3 might not be a simulator (like say ARMA2) but it sure as hell is a thousand times closer to reality than any COD game. Tell me one thing that is unrealistic and i will tell you a hundred things that are. Really? COD? Throwing knives? Dual mp5's? Dual Glock 17's in a Favela (aka slum) in Brazil? WW3? Come on now, don't be a troll, don't flame. BF2 and BF3 are not simulators but they are actually quite realistic in terms of look, gun's used/recoil/etc, tactics, and everything else i can think of. And if "it doesnt take 4 .308 bullets to kill someone!" is your argument, first off that was Alpha testing that we experienced that, could be changed, and 2 it is NOT a simulator, the one part of BF3 that was made on purpose to not be reality is what happens when you got shot (aka how many rounds it takes) because its not that fun to be hit with one bullet and have to respawn (at least for the majority of FPS players).

I actually feel really sorry for this blue teeth, he is about the meet the ban hammer intimately and hard (like Viagra and Priapism hard). I really don't understand what people are getting so worked up about, BF3 is popular and it has a lot of pre-orders so we are going to have a lot of people playing online. Some are not going to like it, complain about it and maybe even stop playing, but its still going to be a fun game for others. If you don't like it, there is a whole sea of other games out their.

PS: Battlelog is the best server browser I've ever used in my entire life.

Valve makes the best browser. The best part is being able to view and queue up on multiple servers even while still in game.

Having to go back out of my current game, to view the list and select a server to join is fucking painful.

First World problems.

Its funny cause the people bitching about BF3's little issues (no in game browser etc) so they wont play the game must not be seeing what i see. Id give my pinky fingers, $200 and my 360 up for BF3 if i had no other option. I have been waiting for the true successor to BF2 for so long (my first true love game=BF2). I know i will be playing BF3 for probably the next 4 years almost daily. I played Bf2 so much and im ready to do the same for BF3. Not hundreds, but probably a thousand hours of gameplay i will get out of BF3 before BF4 comes out. I cant imagine anything making me not get this game. Idc if the zombie apocolpyse goes down, American crumbles as a nation or if Bar Refaeli, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Biel and Jessica Alba (pre children) want to have a 5-way with me, i would rather play Bf3.

BF3 is like the fastest starting / closing / alt tabbing / windowing game ever.

I was getting in games faster than TF2 would load the god damn main menu.

And you don't even have to sit and wait at a loading screen because it just loads in the background and alerts you when it's in done. 1 second later you're in. I agree that the Valve browser is probably the best (though I think I remember the UT99 browser being hot shit because UWindows was the best) around but the game starts and shuts down so fucking fast that it almost kills that point.

seems to be the case that it works well and is slick as far.

Wow, I want one of those bottle coolers, screw going to the fridge while watching the game. Rather grab a cold one right off the coffee table.

I want one of those bottle coolers, and I think that picture is funny (not just because I don't like fourzerotwo especially).

Can someone explain to me how the whole battle log thing works? Like in detail. So you launch BF3 and then what happens?

aha I like the guy speaking.

Talking about how their tools could crash: "... and then you're like FUCK"

Compared to the Alpha a lot of us played, that build looks almost to the point I'd say its ready.

This game has 0 chance of disappointing me. They could ship me fire ants in the box, and I'd probably still be fine as long as the game would install.

Here is a questions for everyone - How much would you pay for this game?

I'd be ashamed to admit honestly how much I would pay for this, so I won't. Let's just say I think the retail price is a bargain for what you get.

I agree, BF2 was a game changer. I have no evidence so far to think BF3 won't be the same way.

I think an external browser is actually pretty brilliant really. No more client side patches to release to fix interface issues that could interfere with other parts of the game unknowingly. Wanna fix something with the browser interface, change the code and upload it to the central server bam, done. Sure it could be shit if it was poorly optimized/intergrated but in all honesty (and i try to be level headed), this is one of the fastest loading games from the time I clicked join to the time I was running around.

The browser was already pretty slick on its presentation as well, I liked how everything was laid out with stats and whatnot. Like I had said before, as long as server response times dont take a shit from the load, it will do work really well.

If I think about it more, as long as the game seamlessly and almost instantly minimizes and restores, then I'd actually prefer a separate non ingame browser. Functionally speaking it would be the same as an ingame browser, with the advantages. I can look for and find games without opening the client for one, and do something else while it searches or waits in queue for your favorite server. Often I just want to play on a specific server, which might be full, or it makes it easier to check if is populated as well.

Over at reddit they are saying beta dates are supposed to be announced by the end of gamescom.
