I know the feeling as my name tends to be taken pretty quick. Though is found some numbers with meaning I can tac on the end so it's not some useless string of numbers.

Though I'm tempted to rebuy MOH for the limited edition just for beta access. Disposable income, gotta love it.

I just wish they'd stop setting our player names in stone. I get the persistent rank things, but you get other ways of identifying a unique player that don't require a single player name. I like changing my name to fuck around and suit my mood. Just tie the account to your PB GUID or something.

I can't decide if I'll buy digital or physical
My plan is to buy digital and download it from usenet for the installation. Best of both worlds, and I don't have to depend on their crappy server speeds for my download (and I'm not a bandwidth burden to Steam/EA or whoever I buy it from...although I'm sure EA would count my download among their piracy loss figures lol)

Can't wait to do some shootin' with you guys!

hahahah. thats so true. I think I might do the same thing. The install files will most likely leak early. So once I get my cd key id be ready to go lol

I'll probalby pre-order it after seeing the gameplay trailers.
Looks like fun times ahead.
Really need a good game to replace BF2 at the LAN's i go to.

That's a good plan actually, steam is usually pretty slow unless of course we can pre-load, I'm lucky if I can get 2-3MB/sec on steam even during quiet times :(

So if you bought it through steam and installed the usenet download into the same folder that steam installs all the games to, does steam see it properly and the game work right?

am I alone in not liking the newest vid? it seemed so poorly scripted.

the visuals are stunning, the animations are good, but it just seemed poorly executed. I mean, the guy with the rocket launcher was crouching in plain view of the sniper for like a whole minute.

I have not been watching the BF3 vids, but I am hoping this latest one is a dud compared to the others. At first I thought that my work PC couldnt handle the HD vid, but no it was rendered like that.

The only reason I ever touch single player is if my internet goes down.

Either way I am buying it. I have been playing BC2 since the beta and it is fun but very arcade like. Cant wait to get back to some BF goodness. Hope the squads are like BF2, including the commander.

Just got back from the C2E2 convention and they had a bf3 booth showing of the alpha demo they are running in the videos EA has released. The frostbite engine is pretty impressive chunks of concrete flying everywhere, the sun flares coming through the thick black smoke, its like you're there or watching a movie at the theater. It helped that they were showcasing all the action on a 80'' screen. I asked the guy what he was running for the demo. He said an i7 and a gtx580 with all the options set to "high".

Yep, just did this for homefront today. Although I had to verify integrity of the files, and had to redownload a few from steam.

Everything works great.

I wonder what resolution the projector was pushing...1920x1200 or 2560x1600. If an i7 and a GTX 580 can run it at high on 2560x1600 then I'm very confident my system will be able to handle the final build of the game very well at max settings at 4320x900 (essentially 2560x1600).

Yeah, this is what I did with BC2. I was REALLY annoyed when no preload came, then I thought, "You know what, it's up on usenet."

An hour later, I had made a preload of my own.

No projector, literally an 80'' lcd. Like the ones they showcase at CES.

Yes, I just got back from C2E2 and I got to speak with Kevin from DICE who was running the demo. From what I saw the equipment he was using appeared to be a PS3 on the table but I believe I also saw a massive monolith looking tower. Regardless he was mouse and keyboarding and the display and sound for the last demo of the day was nothing short of amazing. I honestly cannot wait for this game.

Well I hope there is proper lan support. I also hate how in BC2, you have to spawn in order to leave the game.

You dont have to anymore...once the map loads, instead of choosing Join, an option to Exit appears in the top right. Course, you still have to wait for the game to load...which does suck.

Battlefield 3 on console is going to have scaled down maps compared to PC.

What they meant to say is that the PC version is going to have the console maps scaled up.

Actually, it would make more sense and be easier to take the same map that is 64 player designed and just reduce the borders the infantry can run around in. It also sounds like they're already doing something like this when they say the jets will have a larger area to fly in compared to where infantry can run around in. I'm betting on this being the actual scenario.

Your post seems to be a bit bitter towards devs and their commitment to the pc platform, though I can't blame you with the likes of crysis 2 floating around, I really believe DICE will treat us right....at least I deeply hope so.

Not really BF3 related, but I just started playing Bad Co 2 multi. Is there some setting I am missing where I can turn off all this excessive bloom? Its all too bright and annoying.

DICE will probably have 16-player, 32-player and 64-player versions of each map like with BF2, except the consoles won't have the 64-player option.

it has to be done through the settings.ini file located in My Documents\BFBC2. find the line that reads "Bloom=true" and change it to "Bloom=false". after this i still had to turn down the in-game brightness. after those changes it looks much better.

I'm worried that this game will fall into the disappointment category of the recent releases. Such as DA2 and Crysis 2.

Any of you guys feel that way?, like we're being lied to about the features? Everyone gets all excited. And then on release day, "oh shit what the hell is this crap".

Good PC games are few and far between these days.....

I don't. While it may not live up to all the extremely high expectations we may have or end up having as it nears release, I'm not at all worried that i'm going to be disappointed.

I can't recall the last good game so, like japan, we are due

What? too early? :D

Haven't you people learned anything? Why the hell would you even think about preordering anything? That's just crazy talk.

If you preorder, and the game fails, don't be bitching about the money you spent.

Just turn HBAO off in the settings.

Sweet, thanks.

edit, it says my FOV is 55.. sure doesnt seem like it. Hmmm.

lol tell me about it, I never understood this whole "OMG cant wait to preorder" thing

People pre order games to show support to the devs, get some extra content and even save some money. Nothing wrong with any of that.
